I think the disinterest on this thread has infected the coverage as no free to air out here in NE Vic. Youd reckon there would be enough Pies supporters to get coverage on one of the three 7 outlets to out rate Pawn stars or similar dross on at this time.

Thanks for making me think about this a bit more. i guess I see Gus complements Oliver. Viney complements Oliver. Gus and Viney don't complement each other as both work best in the same position, but they do it differently. and your right Gus breaks away more where Viney is in the struggle.

You're right Viney is more crash and bash. Bradshaw is more skilled at getting through the pack, can avoid tackles and stays upright while Viney bulldozes through. And yes Bradshaw is able to get it on the outside while Viney does not seem to. The point of similarity is they both are most effective in tight in the pack and can get the ball out, but Gus is probably more sophisticated.
  13. Oliver is the pinball wizard. Gets plenty of hard ball and loose ball with his quick reflexes. Doesn't always damage with his disposal and goes unnoticed coz he doesn't hold the ball long quick disposal his forte. Often the one two tree four links are lost at another point in the trail so not as damaging. He also doesn't shepherd and jogs off the ball so can allow space for opponents.Nouestioning his work rate which is consistently forged in the boiler house but he gets no release with umpire protection so can fatigue and be less effective. Love him and when he is on we are a lot better. The coach should use him as a barometer. When he's good he's very good when he's off he should be taken off and rested.
  14. As stated previously. Have a great day. You are representing us who cant be there. Cheer loud and proud GO DEES. WITH PASSION AND ENTHUSIASM

Brayshaw amnd Viney both play a similar style of see ball, get ball, hit the pack hard with timing to be where the ball is and give off quickly. They both have disposal issues, poor kicks because they are usually under immense pressure or off balance. But both usually seem to get the ball deeper into the forward line. Unfortunately this is often in between our attacking forwards and our deeper forwards. Oliver is a little more static an quick with disposal better vision although still prone to dispose to an unprepared teammate. His disposal appears a little shorter and often involves return and pinball type movement with an uncertain release point. Trac combines the bullocky attack and also the release point as he spins and uses strength to get out. Seems to play a little more outside, Seems to now be a little more balanced when he releases making him more effective. All other midfielders play a role as participant with these main ball getters and can be included or released when available. All midfielders need to try and create space for eventual release. Tackling and bumping opposition, or shepherding teammates to allow space and improve the disposal on release. Forward delivery is affected by forwards pressing too close or being too deep for the eventual release which varies according to the midfielder who effects it. All the players are valuable, all have skill and all are elite level. The coach needs to use them individually and in tandem in structures and patterns that utilise their skills. They maybe all don't play play every minute or even every game, they play when the opposition structures or patterns dictate or when injury impacts ability. We are well placed and should not be even discussing losing any of them they are all young and can form the nucleus with Gawn and others the mid field that can give prolonged success.
  16. Have a great day DD. Make em know your there on behalf of many dees supporters. Yell GO DEES with passion. 17. Saving him for the grand final.
  18. NO! NO! NNNOOOO! Not ...we can almost............WE CAN....MUST..........win all of these....... Same reasons ..........and a Grand final. If the coach hasn't got the players that realise this season is there for the take Ng and we have a squad to continue for the next few years. We have to prise the window open but it is definitely there for us. GO DEES

Would be a different statement if the umpires could remember that the head is sacrosanct. Although the tribunal handling of T Lynch did not support that. Watching other games(we get so little FTA here of MFC games) I never see so many high tackles paid or missed as I do with us. Maybe we play in a fashion that attracts that tackle. The club should ask the umpires board if we are doing something wrong to not receive protection of our heads. Could also ask about tackling outcomes as well. We are often penalised for holding but rarely receive frees for incorrect disposal when we tackle, should we change our techniques of disposal and tackling. Perhaps you would need to know how the umpires are going to act on any given night but like your opponents you can factor in their behaviour and adjust your actions.
  20. Yeah I know it's opposite of what I said but I'd be inclined to keep Jones. He may be slow in the legs but gets to better positions more often. Maybe he thinks a bit faster than others. He certainly should think that he owes the Pies and should remind his teammates of that often and quickly.
  21. Caught up and don't change my thoughts too much. i did like the comment that Collingwood is basically a team of midfielders, that could just solve the conundrum of us having too many midfielders, play em all. Rest anyone who played two games in four days and hasn't come up cherry ripe after six days off. Speed could be the most valuable attribute, catch em when they have the ball, run away from them when we have the ball.
  22. I came to this thread without having viewed either of last two weeks matches and relying on radio cover, with media commentary and Dland adding retrospective detail. i have heard and seen comments on most players who seem to have both detractors and supporters, there is certainly a range of opinion and much of the Dland comments shows just how passionate and thoughtful are our supporters. Indeed all Dland negativity is founded on the desire to continue improvement. I am probably even more confused than ever as I just don't know enough of the players condition and attitude despite or perhaps because of the range of thoughts expressed here, and I'm only four pages in. I do think though that this is a greater test of the coach than the players, and it is the most significant one so far. This game will undoubtably be played with far more intensity than any played this season. Collingwood have everything to play for with everything to lose. They will come out no doubt prepared to do anything to win. They will come out with the confidence that the umpires will rule in their favour in any contest. They will be able to play with an assurance that like every opponent Melbourne has played, will receive soft free kicks while Melbourne players will really have to earn theirs.. They will come out with the knowledge that their powerful and strong supporter base expect to win and will not accept any half or even full efforts, expecting them to play at 190% and to give second third and even fourth efforts on every contest. They will be ruthless. And we should expect nothing less. its why every fibre of my body screams that Jackson at least should be rested this week. Any young, underdeveloped, or suspected fitness concern body should be taken out of the now improved list that we have. Bodies and minds cannot enter this match with anything less than total commitment to win as a team. Individuals must still perform, and individual contests must be won but individual efforts will not overcome a United and committed team. Jones should be able to remind players of the humiliation and arrogance Collingwood have displayed against Melbourne opponents, the players must be reminded not only of the present but of the past. But more importantly they must be told clearly of the future. The potential of this group is greater than any we have recently had and this match can be a portent of their future. But it is as a group that this will happen and some of the group will not play in this match for specific reasons. There must be no internal rivalry but only cohesion. There must be total commitment and support for every player on the field together and from those on the sidelines. Only this will make the possible, a deserved reality. The coach has to achieve this mind set and has to deliver this message to every player in whatever manner is required to ensure they understand this. I hope this can be done or Goodies tenure must be even more tenuous. GO DEES.
