  1. Well yes it may have been a bit of overoptimism. BUT I have suggested Trac could be The Burgoyne, Jarman solid bulldozer brilliance Kossie could be the Rioli, Betts type, May Lever are a solid defence unit for talks, the structure we had today seemed pretty well balanced. While we don't have a Johnathan Brown, T Mac can play the bullocking Centre Half forward and who knows what Brown might do. Jackson today showed some glimpses of real talent and could become a Royce Hart, James Hird. and Bennell .........well. Long and what's is name from Adelaide ???? And MAX what he can do is still expanding and his leadership is improving. Every premiership team has a number of solid performers and even some underperformers. We have plenty of both. Enough to fill the team and also some handy backup to replace injured etc. Would you rest Max in the lead up by playing Pruess . With Jones as a sentimental favourite you could play into form for the final tilt. Is the coach up to it? So far the answer appears no, but I still expect great things from this team
  2. I'm a little more than lukewarm, I think he debuted well and this hub format seems to provide a good platform for emerging talent. However I would have had Brown as replacement for T Mac, an older heavier body against the Hawks. Jackson on the bench as a burst player to relieve Max who must be rested (managed) for what is a more intensive program. I have always maintained a greater use of the squad picking players needed to respond to the different styles and structures of the opposition.. I really think we finally have a squad with the range of players we need to win the flag. We just need some confidence and some astute coaching.
  3. Good one K. Monet never gets cheaper, but is great value for money. Dland is more affordable.
  4. It is indeed a beautiful thing to see a win I didn't see the game but from comments here there's still much that was not an improvement. We must realise that Hawks play a completely different game. Different structures and personnel. We need to adjust to exploit their game. Another test for Goodwin. Maybe we'll be on the TV next game?
  5. Lots of good observations on this thread. There were many points which show we have the personnel and the skill. We also display some mind boggling poor decision making and poor skill errors. There seems to be still a real lack of confidence, I continue to put this down to reaction to umpiring consistency. Has the coach, the club ever consulted the umpires to ask what we do wrong when we tackle, (we rarely get a free kick for incorrect disposal), or when tackled ( we often get caught for incorrect disposal. We never get high tackles even when opponent is lying on the ground with arm around neck as the umpire picks up the ball. I noted the Clarkson raised the fact there were 69 tackles without any reward from umpires so it may not be just us. The footage showed only North V Hawks. A highlight reel of our game would show mainly demon tackles as the Cats at least got a few so the law does still exist. Had to respond to this as reference to zone was another issue that had me screaming at the screen. It used to be pretty simple, when you have the ball run to space,, when they have the ball run to a man. The Cats had so much time to chip it around and deliver accurately coz they were able to cause a separation. They run around into space to create a mis match and when it happens just exploit that. Guthrie seemed to have no one on him most game and I suspect it might have been Clarrie who just seems to float around alone in between his great bursts of activity. I have stated in the past that results belong to the coach. I continue with this claim. I blame the coach for not using the squad adequately, not ensuring skills under intensity are improved and not adjusting strategies quickly and effectively enough. We are not winning, It is many things but it's the coaches job and his responsibility. He must change something coz what's going now is not working for a full game. We are not winning that's what it's about.
  6. I seem to recall Miller as a player with limited skills.BUT I did enjoy his attack on the ball. He went to the right places and created a contest. It may have been that teamates just bombed it forward where he made a contest but at least he provided a target. He was often caught in that no mans zone, too far out to kick a score but too close to congestion as defenders flooded back. i always felt we did not use his contesting style well, players didn't use the space he provded nor did they use the spillage that he created. Not enough run past and not enough protection. His endeavour and workrate were aspects that are required in even greater measure now and if he could instil that in some of our players we might benefit.

Hey it's not that much of a project brief unless there is no plans for an alternative site . Detail of our status, potential , relationships do not alter if we are looking at Goschs ,MCG railway or Casey obviously site acquisition would require research and I am sure the govt has already comprehensive reports of anticipated populations etc. with an assurance of established partners these projects can be produced. MFC has surely enough partners who can realise such a project. We have been requesting it for a long time.

Good point. Maybe there's a local politician who can see the numbers that will be available.Probably a labor seat that may need the numbers

Hello fellow travellers. Had to spend a couple of days in the city while friend attended funeral and I had a small plaster repair job to attend to. Boral Nth Melb depot is closed due to some rail project and the only place with stock of 90cm Cove cornice within reasonable proximity was the head office in Port Melbourne. They were not used to n handling the quantity i required but were able to stifle their humour long enough to obtain the single stick I needed. I did use the opportunity to cruise around "The Port" and found an amazing space. If you haven't been down there get down andhave a look around. The pPort ground is a compact ground surrounded by buildings and doesn't have a lot of options BUT There a a few very large sites including an aircraft sized hanger for lease. There's still plenty os space with established large businesses and a lot of smaller industrial sites. Melbourne university and Melbourne Grammar have sites including the Edwin Flack running track. The HWT overlooks the old GMH testing grounds which has prttye impressive banks and sme apparent lighting. Looks like plenty of room for development. For balance the CFMEU office is strategically located and they advertise at the Port ground. The government wantts to open up this area and a boutique community stadium and entertainment venue would fit very nicely amongst the residential and business park sectors. If MFC isn't looking at This area of Melbourne they should be alerted to its potential. If there are any demonland reader she with any influence at Board level please get them to have a god hard look. I would be interested in comments from people like Nev who has good corporate judgement and even the Martian who seems to have local knowledge, but please get down and have a look. It might not be the MCG but its closer than Casey with historic links to the city.
  10. All good, BUT, your last para is the most salient. It's not about fair it's about winning. This is where we use the squad to win. Look at the opponents and select the best fastest or negating players. May, Lever OMac, O Mac to Let May and Lever run around. Rivers perhaps. LOchart,, Jetta, perhaps changing off the bench Hunt, Harmes, Trac, Brayshaw off the bench with Viney. Depending how Jackson pulls up and feels Saturday. I felt he was good and is mobile but is still developing and the druggies may not be the best development. CHF TMac if he is more mobile than Brown or if Brown can remain focused on our side and it's plan and not out to prove anything to Essendon. Weird off the bench to change up with either of them. Salem,Tomlinson, Langdon, Oliver, Max all pick themselves Kozi,, Bennel, Fritter, should be there perhaps changing one off the bench.. Id even consider Pruess off the bench to give Max a cut out and provide a more static tall FF. Not sure where that leaves me but fill from the rest ANB, Hibbo, Melk and anyone who wants to beat the [censored] out of the Druggies. Match up with match fit.
  11. A future fund was once the appearance of superannuation. While released for employeesat the finish of their employment it provided investment funds for development. The unscrupulous use of these funds led to the loss of confidence in the funds. As industry funds began to outperform private funds there has been an ideological hatred for them from the liberal party. Costello of course developed his own future fund but still there is apparent opposition to employees/workers having control of them. The latest attack of allowing individuals to deplete their future funds to survive a current economic crisis merely highlights to short term cultural thinking that dominates our society. Sorry,

Oh dear. I think MFC performance and self flagellation are too inextricably linked. One bocomes an alternative for the other. One has been in hiatus while the other can continue unabated. If we could only harness the energy of one to the other the world might be a better place .

Ahhh thanks OD I may have become more dependent upon this haven due to poor performance on other threads. Discussion of potential teams, historical references, and the interminable ratings were just getting too much.

I am disappointed that discourse on this site has been reduced. While football has been in shutdown there has been ample opportunity for greater analysis of the more arcane aspects of the true followers. Those who usually are able to recognise the significance of personal performance and behaviour are now sadly lacking. Perhaps the linkage between this self flagellation and MFC performance can now be examined. Some mathematical genius who I think can only be resident in this thread could perhaps develop the appropriate formula. Interest in match results (I'm) X interest in team selection (it) divided by the amount of alcohol consumed (ac) less the number of posts made (np). Does consideration need to be made for number of staff, manservants, etc engaged. There are many variables. Perhaps it may fall into the abyss of speculative misadventure when the game is actually again played.

Not quit. From reports I have seen A person who attended the rally has tested positive. Apparently wore a mask.

Bloody hell Nev. Your own understanding of your ability and honesty in representing it tells me you are the quality person who can be used by a similarly intelligent broad to help in that supplementary consultancy capacity, even if it's to oversee. I hope you or your company are able to contact the club offering your services. I also believe there will be plenty of opportunities for such alliances in the changed environment. Martian may have extrapolated into some interesting political directions but I think there is some reality in the recognition of that change. What development occurs will be impacted by the political impacts on the economy. We are sailing into a recession where there may be some real opportunities to pick up some partnerships by those areas surviving. We have seen a change to the wealth distribution and there are definitely pockets which are bulging and will be able to invest I need a properly presented project. i have previously asked about Port Melbourne and am encouraged by the detail others here have provided.Docklands is already identified as an expansion zone and it may be that there will be some openings. I note that There is a closed Uber site on one map and that could be just the first closed site. The MCFC has some powerful branding and image features which i a model sure you would recognise. We have a lot to offer an adventurous partner.

A premiership team needs to start the season we'll continue winning with certainty and finish the job with wins entering the finals with confidence in game plan and abilities of individuals and team.

Good that you recognise Dan is the chairman of the National cabinet. They may have built the islands to be closer to the port of Darwin which the federal coalition government has handed over to them.I find it even more amusing that governments cogratulate themselves and brag about the "free trade agreement" they broker with a controlled economy. You really couldn't write better comedy than the rubbish our governments at all levels are presenting to us at the moment.
  20. I remember we would grandly announce a five year plan every three years.

Anyone been to the Ron Barassi senior park? seems like plenty of kids amenities and a soccer field among other features including pavilion.. Any room for a footy club?
  22. dpositive replied to Romey's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Was the line through Murphy reserve or alternative sites. The international kart track and the gun club seem to have found some room down there around Todd road.

Thanks Jack. i do believe your right on Punt road, even Richmond understand the significance of their home base. Who put a line through Port Melbourne and why. The MCG is now too compromisedbut a new Melbourne centre at Fishermans bend could be built and branded around the MFC rich history.
  24. Yes I also agree with you.re "volunteers by themselves", and the effort undertaken by them. My intention is to recognise that effort. Money is available for executive lunches and privileges for example, examination of the tasks, the value of the performing of those tasks does need some debate. It was acknowledged after the fact that firefighters needed some recompense although I believe the actual undertaking of this pronouncement was somewhat sporadic. Perhaps if the true cost of the firefighting and the damage avoided included a true cost for the volunteers efforts more examination of mitigation including management of the environment would happen. its like the debate about valuing and paying for domestic duties which are not included in productivity figures but let's not go there on this forum. Would like to meet and discuss during half time or whilst celebrating a win. Go Dees
  25. If the bushfires taught us nothing else, we cannot rely on volunteers. The response to the virus did not come about through volunteer involvement. volunteers may be well intentioned and even well credentialed but if there is a necessity for a role it is best achieved by appointing the correct person and paying them for their output..
