WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH
rjay replied to e25's topic in Melbourne Demons
Seems like the SA media are pumping him up a bit knowing he's more than likely headed our way. -
I hope the players aren't buying in to the over hyping 'wyl', if they are we're in for a long day on Monday.
-
You know it doesn't work that way 'wyl'. By that logic we should have beaten the Saints by around 50 given their performance against Port today. I think we've shown improvement almost weekly and hope it continues. This week would not be a good one to take a backwards step.
-
Good question, is he the late in again? edit: Nup, just looked back. 'Jack' had him as lining up so must have been quiet.
-
The suspension cost him game time with the bye and state game. I'm sure he will be back soon.
-
Him and his boss Evans who seems to be getting a free kick from the media. One of the boys. The umpiring is at the stage where you now toss a coin to see which way the decision will go, that's if they bother to blow the whistle.
-
Totally mis read it, apologies. I thought it was a weird quote.
-
You have to be kidding if you don't think Tyson can go better. 20yo with just over 20 games to his name.
-
I still think there was something dodgy with Thomas and his concussion call. How about that one Mick.

Copy from 'Hoods' post on Roos successor. I had a family get together this week. The in laws come from up Shepp way and found myself talking footy with Tom Rotcliff's uncle. It seems MFC threw every thing they had at Tom at the end of last season. He talked about Tom meeting Roos and PJ at the Gee and Tom being blown away by Roos knowledge of football in general but was astounded by Roosey's knowledge of the Lions game plan and that he kept asking why they failed to follow their own plan. It seems Vossey under pressure would ditch his own game plan and the assistant coaches didn't like it one bit. And it seems Roosey had a fair idea that was the problem. Tommy agreed. The uncle said if Voss had been retained as coach Tommy would have come to Melbourne. But in the end they doubled his contract offer after five young kids left o he took up the offer. With out that he might be a Demon. The other MFC issue he brought up was Chris Connolly who played for Shepparton United. He said they brought him up especially one night to look at A young Micheal Barlow at training when he was still playing for SHepp United at 19 and had won the B&F for the comp. apparently Connelly had a look, and said there was nothing there to work with. And moved on to pick the young kids in the National Draft, who we know went not so well. Of course Barlow was over looked by many and went pick 80 to Freemantle but then played phenomenol footy in his first year before he was injured. But if only we took some of our inside knowledge and used that for picks.

'Hood' posted some really interesting info on this recently talking about the meeting between Rockliff, Roos and Jackson.

I thought Geelong would struggle this season and was surprised by their early form. I think they have lost too many champions and others like Enright are coming to the end. You see it in the mistakes that are coming into their game, Enright missing targets and Jimmy missing goals. I'm not sure of Scott's coaching, he had a dream debut where he was smart enough not to do anything that rocked the boat but the defensive aspects of their game are poor. It's ok to open up the game down the middle but to often they will blindly kick or handball the ball under pressure to the hot spot from deep in defence and open the goals for the opposition. Their defensive set up at throw ins can be abysmal. They have some great kids and Hawkins in the forward half so they will not drop right off like we did but they don't look a threat and last night they struggled to beat Carlton who I would't rate better than a bottom 6 club heading in the wrong direction.
-
But the incident happened early in the 2nd,didn't he come back on? Must have been delayed concussion...hah!
-
Anyone think Carlton may have pulled a dodgy with Thomas' concussion break?
-
I think the Hawks have got this year in them if they can get their players back on the park but the list is ageing and Buddy is a big loss for them, they just don't really know it yet. Next year will be more of a raffle. Maybe Frawley should have a word to Bucks after the game on Monday and learn the difficulties in picking winners...who would of thought Brisbane would get 3.
-
All I've ever seen is an occasional good mark and a long kick, not what I would call a overly skilled player Col. Over rated yes.
-
...and unfortunately Col had neither.
-
Yep, Adelaide will be lucky if they scrape into the 8 this year 'Adam'.
-
We already have.
-
I'm thinking Riley over Toumpas for the grunt factor, we need to apply consistent pressure over the whole game and I don't think Jimmy gives us that yet. Having said that I wouldn't be surprised either way.
-
I don't see any of those teams as contenders after this year.
-
Nothing will compel me to watch that show, I'll wait to read about it on 'Demonland'.
-
...and that's exactly why you don't come out with a stupid answer that if they did the same thing they would be sacked. McKay was asked the question, he would have been better off not answering on the grounds of it being a dumb question.
-
Haven't had a good look at him yet, but by the sound of what others have written it looks like he might be moving up the order quickly especially if he can show he can play as a mid with his size.
-
We know they're 'Knightmares' comments, just funny that's all. Maybe he was taking the p...out of Kevin Sheehan with these and that one in particular. I always find the comparisons a bit off the mark.It will be interesting to see how these guys stack up as the year goes on. I really liked the look of McCartin last year and it appears he's now being seen as a potential no.1. A lot of water to go under the bridge yet and who knows what picks we will have, maybe not as high as we first thought and that's a good thing.
