Not interested, the AFL is a strong club based competition. We don't need to go into the SOO...it's just not part of our football culture.
-
I think the story you tell 'Hood' also counts out Voss.

At least he's one we won't have to worry about next week, Maxwell gone as well. Let's hope we get through with a full list.

Players to target at the end of the year
rjay replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Roos and Stone would know a lot about him and whether he is worth a shot but we could do with his pace and size. Could be a really good runner off half back if he's got the tank to go. Funny you mention him, was just thinking about him today. -
Yep, that's probably close to right although I think Tyson may start in the middle and by default have Wines. I wouldn't be surprised to see Cross go to Boak. We match up ok, let's see how it goes on game day though.
-
Most of our team along with the supporters 'Adam'.
-
Much more likely to go to Westoff.
-
I think Cross will take Boak, or will Jones take him and Cross go to Ebert? Bail will play defensive forward on Broadbent who is their distributor from half back but their plan b will be Pittard who is also a good kick and will take the game on if we let him.
-
I think McDonald will take Westoff; he has a big tank and runs all day, Tommy Mc is the only one with the capacity to go with him. Dunn or Garland will take Schulz.
-
I get that feeling and whilst he seems to have done a good job to get the business on track, albeit with some pretty powerful benefactors he has had a little bit too much to do with the football side of things for my liking.

Players to target at the end of the year

I think Mitch is a good kid, will be a big part of their future plans. Cam Guthrie is another one I really rate, he's come on in leaps and bounds over the last couple of years. I think they will both be welded on to the Cats for a while yet so not realistic targets. -
I think you spell it out perfectly 'Macca', couldn't put it any better.
-
Some of the reactions are grossly unfair 'Sat', but it's not a myth. Trengove has lost leg speed and power through his core, the last few years he was nowhere near the player he was in his first 2. Something was amiss and I hope it can be put down to the foot, he's a good kid, let's hope he can get back on track and become the player he was set to become.
-
Not a good call here 'HH'. Not the right fit for us and will be discussing his new job this weekend when he's in Brisbane.
-
Whilst the Swans forwards are imposing the game was won up the ground where they were able to run at will from half back and through the middle. As we know your defence is defenceless if the ball comes in like it was tonight. The Cats put no real pressure on the runners where the Swans did the reverse.
-
I think you are right about last year, they really need to keep playing through and forget the State game if this is to be a true feeder comp for the AFL.
-
I think that's a really good point and a good post.
-
I think he is in the box seat at the moment.

Different time, very different game. I think it matters to us as a club, we won't go the double of rookie coach and never played AFL at the highest level.
-
It doesn't mean that everyone that's played AFL is going to be a better coach than someone that hasn't but like for like the applicant with AFL experience wins...and as for the example of Peta Searle, well she is an assistant coach and as we know the 2 jobs are light years apart. ...now if I had Peta Searle teaching me how to tag or Cameron Ling, who would I listen to? Everyone brings their own strengths and weaknesses to a role, and I'm sure Peta adds to the group coaching mix at Port. It would be a bold move for us to appoint someone who hasn't played the game at the highest level and it's not going to happen.

No, I don't. I would have said this a few years back but now I think it's extremely relevant and having some success as a player at AFL level is also now more relevant than ever. Unless you have walked the walk it is very difficult to have others believe you know the way. I love Macca at the Doggies and think he is a great football person but I think this is the thing that will always hold him back. As far a we are concerned we just can't afford to take the chance. I think our choice looks to be Ling or Kirk, both premiership captains and both people persons (which I think is even more important).
-
That's where I sit with it 'Adam'.

Ratten can't even get the interim gig with the Hawks and a lot of the players couldn't get away from Brisbane quick enough. So neither of these are the right coach for us.

Mumford is the one that got away and Roos got him away, not saying Shroder but if they have any players of interest to us I'm sure we will have a go.
