DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 5
Pennant St Dee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6.N.Jones (IN AA 40 squad form at least and has relished leadership role every week) 5.J.Viney (It's in his DNA knows no other way love this kid, will be a part of the building of a hate to lose culture every week) 4.Cross (as above but at the opposite end of his career always hard at it, wish we had someone like him when we moved Miller and Junior) 3. Dawes (he is a leader and whilst his wayward kicking was costly you can see his on field direction and provides a contest whenever it goes in) 2.Frawley (like Dawes presented but should have clunked a few more, can't fault his effort last fortnight) 1.JKH (showed a lot after Half Time) -
He looks lively but Matt Crouch looks pretty useful the last fortnight. JKH shows the willingness to learn which will see him be a very good player combined with his enthusiasm, pressure, speed and x factor. The desire to succeed and willingness to learn is the clearest distinction between JKH & Blease

In a nutshell for AOB, JViney Fan, TSFKA & others arguing over Watts being left alone. He is not left alone by the opposition, he finds space because he has a natural ability of knowing where to run and when to run there, it comes natural to him On occasions when he gets the ball he has the precision kicking and perfect weight of pass to cut up opposition defences But here is the problem He does not demand the ball when he is in the space If you are going to make these runs to space that is not enough, wave your arms, scream do whatever it takes for your team mate to see you and know you want the ball. Some players don't have the natural vision Watts has to see this space but that is not enough. Demand Demand Demand and when you get it use your pace and kicking ability to the best of your advantage

Georgiou McDonald Pedersen Clisby Dunn Grimes Viney Tyson Vince Kent Frawley Bail JKH Dawes Howe Rucks: Jamar N.Jones Cross INT: from M.Jones, Strauss, Mckenzie, Salem Out: Spencer - works really hard and a break may do him good, I think Jamar will go well head to head with Pyke Evans - only because 2 weeks as a sub, Roos may keep him in for leg speed and running ability against the Swans Jetta - If Kent is available he and Bail are better options as small forwards given the jobs to provide run hardness and defensive pressure Terlich - turnovers are just to much at the moment, whilst the effort is fantastic the turnovers are hurting Watts - yes he has polish and is the best kick in the side but needs to learn doesn't matter how good you are there are some non negotiables in footy Ins: Jamar - experience needed against Sydney, Dawes forward & Pedersen back to pinch hit in the ruck Kent - if fit runs hard and provides some leg speed Clisby - good performances in the VFL and better user of the ball than Terlich Strauss - as above and better defender IMO than Jetta Salem - I'll leave this one up to Roos, form calling for it but borderline with Evans as we are going to need numerous players to rotate through the middle or we will be over run by the Swans Frawley & Dunn may have to swap depending on the Swans forwards of Tippett & Franklin Garland again if Roos thinks he is ready then in but can't take any underdone players into the game Match Ups To match Sydney we will need players to rotate through a variety of roles and we need to be up for a game with a lot of stoppages & tackles that's why Jordie stays in based on history. At various times through the day I think with interchange and resting forward Viney, Tyson, Vince, Mckenzie, Cross, N.Jones, M.Jones & Kent all get runs through the middle with the Swans ability to rotate the Jacks, Kennedy, Hanneberry, McVeigh, Mcglynn, Parker, Cunningham & Mitchell through the middle. Their Half Bank Flankers are dangerous and Kent and Bail need to be defensive forwards against either of R.Shaw, Malceski & McVeigh who all play these roles. Grimes to do nothing other than negate Ben Mcglynn who will rotate from HFF to with short stints in the middle TMac to get first job on Franklin and decision to be made between Dunn & Frawley to go to the tall forward of either LRT, Reid or Tippett depending upon who is named Can't see a match up for Lewis Jetta who is a worry Howe needs to provide plenty of decoy runs to prevent Smith going third man up to assist Richards and Grundy We are up against a very hard working side next week and the side we pick has to provide effort, intensity and be disciplined with the structure Roos sets up
-
It's not cheeky SEN you need to have a good look at yourself you have been going all week about it. It's not rocket science he pulled up sore but the 8 day break has been a bonus and something they would have taken into consideration last week when deciding to bring him straight in.

Brett Kirk - Roos' successor?
Pennant St Dee replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't care if our next successful coach has a head like a dog licking pi55 off a nettle, it's how they perform that counts -
Brett Kirk - Roos' successor?
Pennant St Dee replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
I've heard it all now, a coaches looks being part of the selection criteria FMD, school holidays? -
it was a joke he made all Australian, Jacobs should have been number 1 ruck in 2012 and it was between Cox & Maric for the next spot if there was to be a second specialist ruckman. But from memory Petrie had a very good year in 2012 and could have been given a spot on the bench or in the forward pocket as a pinch hitter in the ruck. The AFL loves good news stories and the conspirator in me thinks Natanui was given the multicultural nod

Agreed on Sumich the guy will be another Neeld, Drum, Waters, Tactically inept I have also heard Goodwin's name mentioned a few weeks ago as a possibility, but with a view of doing a two year handover role. What weight that holds who knows but source was from someone in footy department circles (neither Bombers or Dees) -
You drunk Wyl, not like you to be this positive, not that I'm complaining

Freddie's time has passed fits very much into very good WAFL player not quite good enough AFL level. Just for you Loyal Royal below is a snapshot of the highlights reel for "The Sold Outs" in last weeks Perth Derby Go Cardies!

Jack Trengove out for year with navicular fracture
Pennant St Dee replied to Arrow's topic in Melbourne Demons
Really gutted for Jack, loved the kid in his first 2 years and really think he possesses great attitude, footy smarts and sacrifices himself for the club. Hope you heal quickly Trenners and get your body right come back 100% and the next few seasons are a lot kinder to you -
Well please tell us who didn't play well, should be easy enough and not a big list because IMO almost every player did their job, barring the odd loss of foot and occassional turnover they supported each other, tackled and/or coralled, ran to space, shepherded. The side on Saturday was well balanced performance wise and they all seemed to know their limitations and took the game on a little bit more. IMO the Dees of the last 3 years would have gone into their shell after that first 10 minutes and we would have been 6 to 7 goals down by quarter time

WTF are you the sort of [censored] stirrer who makes comments in a pub then keeps quiet when a row starts. You tried to make something out of JKH'S goal when he was congratulated by Jordie McKenzie & Bernie Vince we to him. Dawes rightfully had a go at him for not feeding him the ball as he was free and running through on goal it's what is referred to as a percentage play. JKH nailed it and that's where it ended. The kid will learn if you are willing to take that chance make it count or cop the spray. I wont even ask what you were on about with your next comment re the game against Meth Coast. Ffs get alife or go and watch days of our lives

yes he won the Jack Clarke Medal as best & fairest in WAFL Colts, Kent missed out on under 18 selection which was made in the early part of the 2012 season. I know with him being a country boy there were issues with him getting all the training in over the pre-season but as the season went on he got much better and thankfully for us he slipped under the radar and probably down the pecking order. I was told after he was drafted that this kid could really flourish in a full time professional environment

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 4
Pennant St Dee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
This was actually difficult to do which hasn't been the case in a long time, some who missed out are very unlucky namely Matt Jones, Dunn, Grimes, Bail & TMac 6. Frawley 5. N.Jones 4. Spencer 3. Viney 2. Cross 1. Dawes -
I know we wish for our team to bond and look after each other but this is a bit to far
-
Don't let facts get in the way of BS, Darling dropped down the pecking order because of a big drop off in form in his draft year. He went from being outstanding at U/16 level to playing in the West Perth Seniors and struggled, he looked lazy had stopped growing and the recruiters started having doubts nothing to do with an altercation when he was king hit from behind and did nothing to instigate an argument (just another urban myth that has turned into a massive chinese whisper). Darling was picked by Meth Coast with their second pick in the draft that year and turned up to training thinking he was the new man, he was pulled into line very quickly and given an absolute rocket pre-christmas. The penny dropped and he started putting in the work required at this level. But you keep thinking he was a top 2 pick prior to his altercation. The Suns had the first three pciks that year and had he been as highly rated as you claim they would have taken him the year before as they were entitled to do with an underage player (which they did with Bennell & Swallow) and played him in the VFL for a season before drafting him.

The game is over 4 quarters, and that goal had a lot to do with the defender failing to keep his feet. Martin needs to learn how to run out games
-
He will not leave WA
-
Still maintain keep 1 pick in the Top 2 or 3 whatever we get and do another Tyson Salem type deal with the other picks GWS Trelaor, Shiel Port Wines - the one area they are not great is in defence do they want Durdin, but don't see them giving up Ollie Suns Prestia, Swallow Crows Sloane, Talia Swans Hanneberry, Parker Lions Rockliff, Redden

GOODBYE MITCH CLARK
Pennant St Dee replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sad end Mitch loved your intensity when you were playing in the red and blue and would loved for it to have ended differently. I hope the rest of your life works out for the better
