Any number greater than 100 when a % symbol is added. For example, player saying "I'm going to give it 110%". Why not 120%? or 1,000%? I'd be happy if each gave 100% for 100% of the time.

If Tom Scully is in the best 10 footballers in the country and wants to return to Melbourne FC after concluding his contract with GWS, would you take him? Given the amount of vitriol already on this site directed toward him, I suspect it will be difficult for many posters to say "yes". In which case, I hope those same posters are not actually working in our List Management area in 2016. Emotion is great when watching from the grandstand, but it's not so helpful when making business decisions. (If his contract with GWS is for 6 years, please feel free to read 2016 as 2017).

I've seen a number of posters decry our lack of size and strength in the midfield. But I don't agree that's the problem. We have that with Moloney, Sylvia and Jones. And we have other in and under types in McKenzie and Gysberts. So I think we are fine for distributors. What I think we lack is outside class, or deliverers. I'd like to see Trengove, Bennell, Morton, Bail, Blease and maybe Nicholson turned into classy deliverers. And, really, Sylvia should be moved to this group, too. Can they do it? I don't know. But that's what I want to see.

Perhaps the crowd number might be enough to fill a marquee?

While I don't want injuries either, this view that the International Rules shouldn't proceed because of this risk is flawed. Players get injured at training, in car accidents (no, I'm not talking about Sylvia - think Peter Motley), in the school yard and because they slip over at home.

I share your view about his foot skills and therefore question whether he's a midfielder, but I think he's clearly in our best 22.

I agree that development of the AFL brand in non-traditional locations is good for the competition and therefore indirectly the MFC. I just ask for two simple things: (1) teams who play in Darwin (or perhaps Cairns) get their bye in the following week and (2) the game is televised on free to air TV.

Sorry, I can't let this one go through. Morton may make mistakes but I wouldn't say he shirks the issue. In fact, with a body like his I think what he does is more courageous than most on the ground. Courage is not being brave when you are strong; courage is being brave when you are scared sh!tless.

I think these are mutually exclusive. If you want it to be "as fair as possible" it can't also be random. FWIW, each team playing 12 teams once and 5 teams twice will always throw up aberrations. Let's just hope that we have a draw that is commercially attractive (ie, no home games at Etihad!) as well as being beneficial for performance. And in short, the best 4 teams will make the final 8, irrespective of their draw. From those 4 teams will come the premier, so the draw doesn't really determine a team's ultimate on-field success or failure.

Apropos of other news late today, I've always thought of Nason as being Richmond's equivalent to Addam Maric. Similar size*, similar role, similar output and now similar outcome. *Note - my assessment of size is purely visual. If stats say different, so be it.

And I'm an oldie. Imagine having to do that as a kid? And, as a matter of interest, if in 4 (or 5) years time he's a gun and wants to come back to Melbourne FC, would you want him? I know i would. As to a report on his 2011 performance? Not much to see here. Just an ordinary, uninspiring year at a club that had (at best) an ordinary, uninspiring year.

I think Carlton may become the new distraction. If I'm correct, Ratten will be the third-longest serving coach (meaning at their current club) with only Worsfold and Clarkson serving longer. And both of them have won a premiership as coach. If Carlton doesn't make top 4, there will be massive pressure on the club.

I've never thought numbers per se were particularly important. But perhaps who your locker is next to might be. I wonder whether clubs give any thought to the psychology of players when deciding on their numbers. It means a couple of years ago all our new players were numbered in the high 40s which would have meant their lockers were all together. Intuitively this seems mistaken. I think new players should be mixed in with the more experienced players. Putting a new key position prospect near James Frawley, for example, might make more sense than putting him next to another new player.

Keeping Bate means two spots still have to be freed up on the list rather than one to comply with AFL rules. I guess the FD decided Bate was more valuable than the two players who will make way. I'm not sure who is out of contract, but I guess Maric will be one and maybe Joel MacDonald the other. I think Bate is better than both of them...but I also wouldn't have been upset if he'd been traded out.
