The reality of all sports is that everyone is in it to win the big prize. teams are happy to sacrifice short term gains if it means they will one day win the big one. AFL clubs bottom out and play the youth to build towards a premiership tilt. Cricket Australia are playing a B grade team in all forms apart from test Cricket, and have been handing out baggy green caps like they are worthless in order to find a winning combination for the ashes. The only format that would prevent experimentation or list management IMO, is a system that involves relegation. If you have to win or loose the right to play with the big boys then you see teams playing to win every week. Perhaps thats why the EPL and other comps are popular world wide, becasue you never see a passionless game. I odnt actually think the AFL can establish relegation due to the money required to play in the comp. But if they actually think list management is tanking then perhaps they should investigate the posibility of introducing relegation.

I agree that we should be looking to score over 100 points per game. the rest of the OP is basically just a roundabout way of saying we need to beat our oposition

close thread!

The AFL feel as though they need to tinker with the rules every year. if their tinkering is limited to outlawing gloves, well thats probably easier to take than if they decide to change the interpretation of fundimental rules like they have been doing recently.

Blease's run and carry & footskills are too good to be confined to forward 50 only (IMO). He will play down there for periods but he needs to play in the midfield for longer periods (IMO). A fit Aaron Davey and Shannon Byrnes will do for another year or two

are you serious? GWS forward line wasnt exactly full of stars. Cameron was their #1 forward for much of the year.

We're quick to defend our young players, sometimes fairly and sometimes blindly. The very same people that have been cutting Trengove slack for an average 2012 are laughing at Scully for his 2012 form. Scully averaged more posessions per game, more clearances, was more effective with those possesions and same number of tackles. Yes GWS paid too much for him, but he's not rubbish
-
Scully hasnt shown alot yet, but i think he'll be a good player. He has all of the attributes to become a star. People bagging his 2012 form should remember that Trengove had an average year too Watts is frustrating because he's been in the system for long enough now, but we have to continue to cut him some slack becasue he has been mismanaged by the club and he's now apparently a backman. Jeremy Cameron rubbed salt in the wound by dispelling the myth about good young key forwards needing time.

I'd add fitzpatric to that list. IMO if clark isnt fit for round 1, the coaches may want to pick Fitzy as a 3rd tall so that when Clark is fit we will be playing the same structures.

The most fired up that I ever got at the footy is when we had 2 drunk eagles [censored] somehow got tickets in the MFC allocated section at subi. One of these pricks was running their mouth big time. Then he spilt his bourbon on a old blokes demons jacket. The old fella politely told this bloke that if he couldn't handle his booze he shouldn't drink. Then the young guy started abusing him and the dees. I snapped, got out of my chair, pushed him back him in his seat and told him to show some respect to his elders, to sit the [censored] back down or [censored] off (amongst other expletives). Probably closest I've ever been to belting someone who hasn't done anything to me directly. After that I had absolutely no enjoyment of the game. Pretty sure we lost by 15 goals......

Yeah if a mad demon supporting chick goes ape [censored] at one of my eagles mates in round 3 I'll know I've identified sloonie!

And I thought this would be about tanking!...... Think guys like nicho, jetta, Strauss, watts etc might rotate between back line and mids, and sellar, Dunn might go,forward at times. but you're right, lots of back line players for only a few spots!

This thread has turned into a carbon copy of the AFL investigation thread. People bickering and nitpicking each others posts. cant wait until the games start.....
-
Yep, pretty sure they won the premiership last may didn't they?

IMO tanking is only an issue if it effects the integrity of the game. The AFL version of tanking seems to have been widely accepted in the last month or so as bottoming out. But what people forget is that teams bottom out as a last resort: they arent able to win games playing their best 22, so they play the kids and try out fringe players in different positions to see if they're any good in other roles. Its the last ditch effort to find a silver lining on an otherwise black cloud. This version of Tanking doesnt effect the integrity of the game IMO. Theres no one making big money from the bookies. What Fremantle did do secure a home final by resting players is more of an integrity issue than when the wooden spoon holder puts the que in the rack. If the AFL was dealing with Match fixing then i could understand the recent witch hunt investigation. Just like the umpires can be prone to over umpiring in recent seasons, the AFL has gone overboard with this investigation. I wonder if the ICC will investigate cricket Australia for their rotation policy and experimenting with the one day side with an eye on the 2015 world cup?!

Training - Friday 18th January, 2013 @ Casey Fields

Garbage post. Rodan is'nt a superstar, but he was well and truley an established player at port. He's just old and was no longer part of their plans -
This thread is worse than the AFL investigation one....

Rubbish. I'll try it on the weekend

Its a sad story

Its not the missing targets that frustrates me the most about Joel Mac. Its his over zealous tackles that seem to always land high. His mate Bail suffers from a similar problem. Hopefully the preseason tackling coaching helps in this area. I wont write him off though, a years a long time in footy, and with the right attitude there is no reason tha he cant continue to improve aspects of his game.

Im sick to death of this whole saga. I read these articles from the age and feel absolutley no emotion. Jaded chose a good user name.....
