  1. In: Gysberts, Morton, Newton or Bate Out: Jones, Maric, Jetta Jones goes out because he needs to realise that he isnt a automatic selection. Gysberts in becasue he will be a gun one day, and should be given as much oppertunity as we can give him Morton in & Newton (or Bate) come in to give our forward line some level of potency. Jurrah & Watts are talents but neither are power forwards to shape a forwardline around. Dunn and Petterd are decent but neither are a focal point just yet. Lions have some injuries to their big men at both ends of the ground. Morton and Newton could both swing forward / back if required. Jetta and Maric out becasue we need these types of players to kick goals or find the footy. At the moment These guys & even Bennell do neither
  2. We all knew this year was going to be another development year. I'd hope that we dont get smashed like that too many more times, but im sure this wont be our worst loss all year! No doubt that we have some players with question marks over their heads about their futures, but i dont think there are many guys who played for Casey who i'd be rushing back in. Though I would like Gysberts to be treated like a Jack "protected spieces" Watts and be picked every week for development purposes.
  3. Harsh but probably fair, some classic lines in there for sure
  4. i think we'll win 2 out of 5 The only team that we should beat easily is Gold Coast. I hope we also beat Brisbane this week, which without JB & staker should be no problem. I'd like to see us beat the eagles, i'll be there cheering for us, but they'll be full of confidence after beating some weaker teams in rounds 1 & 2. Adelade & North could be wins, but i am not confident enough to lock them in. I rate adelaide, and north are about on par with us. Just depends if we show up to play?!
  5. i noticed that early our blokes were almost too ferocious with the tackles - to the point that they were ending up in the back or over the shoulder of the swans players and giving away free kicks
  6. He playes his role very well. I cant see him being pushed out in the next few years and he'll probably get better with time too I'd prefer reliable backmen than flashy ones who try to be too fancy in our defensive 50
  7. plus hes a really great bloke. LAst year at the western demons dinner we had Brucy & Green sit on our table. Brucy was a real top bloke, really laid back and probably started more conversation than anyone else on the table!
  8. haha its looking like that
  9. dont get me started! I flew over from perth with a heap of mates who are eagles supporters. I was sure we were going to win that game Matt Rosa played the only game of note in his whole carrier
  10. like the thinking there La Dee-vina Commedia Dont agree with all of the Cam Bruce bashing though, the bloke was great to our club
  11. i find this thread to be more pathetic and borning than the tom scully & jack watts threads. Seriously who cares if RoostIt got it wrong about Tapscott? Its a far more trivial matter than whether we've wasted our number 1 picks on a traitor and a dud! (that last sentence is a joke )

    Jonesy

Couldnt have said it better myself. I can be very critical of jones, mostly becasue he showed alot of promise in his early seasons but has since not developed into the player i thought he was becoming. He still has a role and i dont think any one can question his passion, but his disposal/decision makin can let him down at times. But every time he puts on the red and blue i'll suport him, and then later cringe when i read his tweets!
  13. i think the Hawks are over rated at the start of each season since their flag. Yes they have alot of quality players, but i dont see them in the same league as Collingwood, Saints, Cats etc. They're more like Carlton, lots of good player but over reliant on their dominant player to be dominant. Tha being said we're probably in the rung below, but our best is good enough to beat them. I like our backline and think that we can do a good job in this area (even without frawley). The key is stopping their midfield from being able to deliver it to their fowards lace out. Goodes was dominant early last week, but i feel it was more a case of good delivery than poor defending. Our midfield need to be accountable and must apply alot of pressure on the ball carriers - no easy kicks. If we can do that we can give our backline half a chance.
  14. i think all of the KPI's which have been suggested will generally trend towards the positive if we're playing well and beating oppositions. The only one i wasnt/arent keen on is the core group stat becasue its trying to confine such a variable concept.
  15. yep, laughable, its crystal ball stuff - while your at it why not have Jack Viney in there too hehe
  16. i think the stats that are more worthwhile (although some what inter connected) would be how many changes to side we make per week (ie continuity in selected team) or average games per player at the end of the season? OP nominated; Scully, Trengove, Watts, Morton, Grimes, Sylvia, Frawley, Garland, Jurrah, McKenzie, and Gysberts. For me i find it laugable that Gysberts is nominated as "core" after two (great) games yet Tapscott didnt make the list afetr one?, Watts and Morton make the cut based on their draft rank / "potential", and Jamie Bennell doesnt although he's showing similar or greater class/promise. I also find it harsh that Aaron Davey and Jamar/Moloney dont make the cut, becasue i have no doubts that if they continue to back up their consistant performances they'll hold their spots in the coming seasons. My point is that its such a subjective stat that i dont find it as worthwhile as the others
  17. Flag Core © players per game?? what a load of garbage. Opinions on who is or isnt in the core of the team will change with every passing year as we see new players potential and others not reach heights we had hoped, not to mention GWS poachings etc
  18. ouch I still cant believe we would treat legends of our club the way we delt with Jr and Bruce
  19. i was proud of the team for hanging on for a draw, some real heart in mouth stuff towards the end. Petterd marked everything that went near him and im not sure whether it was becasue he was fresh or becasue hes a gun, but im leaning towards the latter. Theres been alot of positive press about his role as the sub and how it was the perfect use of the new rule, but i'd prefer to see a player that is capable fo that type of impact play for the entire game!
  20. maybe try Warnock as a sub, in case Buddy/Roughhead is going ballistic?!
  21. Done...and apologies for the spelling But back on topic, while watching the game yesterday it really hit home about how much of a key player he is for us. I had almost forgotten this fact after reading over so many threads that discussed "our best 22" or "best 22 in X years time" etc which were full of midfields of our young guns, many of which have played less than 20 games (Gysberts, Blease, Jack Viney FFS!). Even if the young brigade of Scully, Jordie, Gys, Tappy & Trengove are all fit and firing im confident Beamer would hold his spot if he is able to maintain that type of form
  22. jones' pace doesnt worry me, its the kicking to no one that makes me cringe - drop him to the maggos!
  23. My only lasting memory of maric's game was his selfish goal attempt after Nev Jetta's chace down tackle in the pocket. I'd have no probalem with Maric being dropped. If frawley is fit, play him. McDonald makes way for him becasue everytime he lays a tackle he takes the player high or ends up in their back I'd also have no quams about dropping jones for Gysberts, purley to let him know that he needs to work on his kicking I know we wont make this many changes, but i'd like to see this team; Out: McDonald, Maric, Jones In: Frawley, Gysberts, Morton Rivers Frawley Barty Grimes Garland Tapscott Davey Trengove Green Watts Petterd Dunn Bennell Jurrah Jetta Jamar Moloney Sylvia IC: Martin Gysberts Bail Sub: Morton
  24. Great Game! Just goes to show that the footy department know what they're doing; I was guilty of thinking he would/should have been delisted sooner rather than later The guy can play a role for us thats for sure. Very solid game
  25. Its probably been mentioned in other threads allready, but after watching yesterday's game i realised how little credit we seem to give big beamer! His clearance work was top notch, and his kicking and decision making was great also. So here's to Beamer, sorry for grouping you with Nathan Jones in regards to ability/game style!
