  1. How can you say Dawes should be captain? He's played 2 moderately good games after being cut from another team in favour of the Q-stick. Sure he may be impressive, but to say everyone else should step aside and make him captain is absurd at this stage.
  2. If Rawlings gets elevated to head coach after Neeld is paid out, we'll obviously have to pay him more. You can't make someone do a head coach's job on only an assistant coach's salary. By sacking Neeld you'll be burning this extra money on his replacement - hence losing money. That's the crux of the issue - we WANT to get rid of Neeld but we can't afford to pay him out!
  3. It's all well and good to say we don't deserve a priority pick because of our own incompetence. But when would there ever be a situation where a club has been perfectly competent, and yet still needs a PP? By definition, their competency will put them in a position where they won't be begging for handouts! So to adopt McFarlane's underlying premise would be to say that under no scenario would ANY TEAM be deserving of a PP.
  4. Wow it's amazing how people can take a seemingly immaterial decision and turn it into a complete negative. Kent might come on and kick 3 in the last quarter, which would build his confidence immensely. Take a breather people!
  5. I'm sorry, are my eyes failing me or does that say that Bruce was known for his exceptional kicking skills?
  6. Nicholson Frawley Gillies Dunn McDonald Macdonald I think our boy Joel has been the forgotten man in this exercise. I really think he personifies the program that Neeld has tried to impress upon the training group - and therefore will get rewarded with games. Tapscott will play forward. Jetta needs to get consistency at Casey - but could easily spot into the HBF early on in the season. And as for Watts - lets just say if there was 5 minutes left in the Granny, scores drawn, and the ball was kicked to a one-on-one contest on our half back flank, I'd prefer all of Nicholson, Gillies, Jetta or Macdonald to be in that contest over Watts. Playing as a loose Backman and collecting cheap disposals does not stand up in finals - and I refuse to judge Watts by any other yardstick than ability to perform under the ultimate of ultimates of pressure.
  7. "With a Collingwood jumper on your back, you're above the law. At least that's what we think anyway." Classic.
  8. Most Kicks: Grimes Most Handballs: Mckenzie Most Disposals: Mckenzie Most Tackles: Mckenzie Most Marks: Frawley Most Goals: Howe
  9. 5 senior games will be a big win for him. The gap b/w AFL and TAC cap is growing every year. Can't expect a kid to have the physical durability or fitness base to do anything more.
  10. Yes, it is a good sign in terms of the message it sends to the league. We won't be bullied and pushed around by scare tactics. Take us to trial and see how their evidence stands up then. The only problem with all of this - how much is it going to cost? Between Casey almost folding and now this, can we afford to be locked in a protracted legal battle? I'd hate to answer that question honestly...
  11. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the contentious clause was signed into Tippett's contract 3 years ago. Was our own Neil Craig not the Coach at the time? Intersting thought...
  12. Great news!!! Between Dawes, Byrnes and potentially another established player, the FD has come through on it's promise to acquire senior talent. A huge tick must be given to Neeld and Co. for their ability to deliver during Free Agency
  13. I'd be very pleased with this trade. The whole point of this off season was to bring in hardened AFL bodies capable of playing round 1, 2013. Dawes and Wellingham are a vast improvement on anyone we have currently playing in their respective positions. Keep in mind, pick 4 may be a gun - but it would take at least 3 years for that pick to be making the impact that EITHER Dawes or Wellingham could be making next year. MFC don't have time to waste. Either show improvement next year or supporters will stop caring...
  14. Those who think that there's no possibility of snagging Buddy need to think again. Anyone watched one of ESPN's "30 for 30" documentaries about Wayne Gretzky - the greatest ever ice hockey player? The LA Kings owner jokingly discussed a trade with the Edmonton Oilers (Gretzky's team) owner at a dinner party. They laughed it off at the time, but a few months, $15 million, 4 draft picks and a couple player later he was in an LA guernsey. Point is, even for a guy like Buddy who is the heart and soul of Hawthorn - a trade is possible. 5mill over 5 years. Make a play, see what happens.
  15. It's easy to get first possessions from an opposition turnover when you're the loose man on the half back line. If hodge, gibson, scarlett, or anyone else for that matter was playing without an opponent for 8 rounds - they'd be number 1 in that stat too. Agreed Watts has improved this year. But until he expresses a genuine appetite for a contest and lays his body on the line, he won't be half the player anyone expects him to be.
  16. Watched him closely when Casey played Collingwood and, while Casey dominated all day, Rounds was by far and away the pies best player. He is too good to be a VFL player. But then again, we've all heard that one before... I'm sure Neeld would know better than most if he's worth a shot.
  17. Might slide to pick 22 and may be worth a punt there. After all, jack darling slid to pick 26 after clubs got the pre-draft jitters (albeit due to his personality profile rather than injury)
  18. Apparently he was hobbling around like a 70 year old at the B&F (I wasn't actually there but knew people who were). Doubtful he's running unless the coaching staff are trying to change his running gait. Anyone who was there care to elaborate?
  19. I suspect if anyone was to know if Otten was worth picking up, Neil Craig would be the guy. Expect him to be on our radar in bright red flashing lights.
  20. I think people forgetting that a sticking point is the facilities we have at AAMI. Has been well publicised as some of the best in the league. Take a prospective player on a tour around them and I'm sure it will persuade him somewhat to come to the dees. Plus walking into work every day and seeing cooper cronk and Archie thompson is pretty cool, let's be honest...
  21. I think this decision epitomizes the direction Neeld is going with the list. There must be some significant reason why he is prepared to delist a highly drafted, highly rated, former AA youngster. Reading between the lines here, it must mean that Cook didn't display what Neeld has called "elite behaviours." For a kid to languish in the VFL is one thing, but he obviously doesn't have the hunger, drive or commitment to be an elite AFL footballer. You might have talent, but these fundamental traits are inherent - and without them all the talent in the world will be useless. For the coaching staff to make such an early call on Cook, they must have recognized this. Good result and goodluck moulding the rest of the team into a unit that are prepared to put in the hard yards to achieve success.
