  1. I don't think it's such a bad idea at all. If he's going to be totally ineffective out there, he may as well be totally ineffective in the ruck rather than on a wing, in the middle or wherever he's supposed to be playing nowadays. Being a back-up ruckman might add another string to his bow and continue his football education. I was forced to play as a ruckman for my under 19's side a while back despite being significantly undersized, but had a leap on my (a la lynden dunn hahaha - still can't believe that actually happened). I saw myself as a "bigger" player in that role and over time it gave me confidence to do other bullocking things around the ground like taking pack marks and laying stronger tackles. Maybe the same might happen for JW?
  2. I heard he was destined to be a top 10 draft pick if not for his kicking. But i guess thats a BIG "if not...."
  3. Judging by the way they have contributed this season, Moloney, Jamar, Sylvia and Jurrah could all take a leaf out of JT's book
  4. +1 Absolutely cannot stand Carlton. Dislike them in every way, shape and form.
  5. I have a question. (Assuming we have to take Jack in the 1st round) Can we use of of our 2 compensatory picks to take JV? Or does it have to be our actual draft pick?
  6. How Mr. Thomas can say that the new leadership group was introduced with "little or no buy-in" defies belief. The very process of implementing the group took into account a VOTE from the players on who they wanted to lead the club. Players, staff and key administrators were all pivotal in the selection of that group. Therefore to say that it happened without any "buy-in" is an absolute absurdity. Grant - get your facts straight mate!
  7. Davey gave an insipid performance today. Totally apathetic with his forward pressure - which is his specific role in the team. Must be dropped.
  8. It's important to note that the club captain was chosen through a rigorous process involving the coaching staff, key administrators and the entire playing list. Ipso facto, virtually anyone who knows anything within the club has glowingly endorsed Jack and Jack to be duel leaders. Whether we on the outside believe Trengove can't perform as a leader due to his inexperience, the coaches and players have stated in clear terms that "he will be the leader of our club." Who are we to know better?
  9. Im just gonna come out and say it: I loved reading every word about that article. Agreed the comment about Watts not being worthy for the no. 1 pick was derisive and unconstructive, but every other part of that article made me smile inside. I'm hoping Jack won't see it as a character assassination but rather something practical and use it as fire to burn his critics in the future.
  10. You're delusional if you think Viney will be in our top 5 in 2014. We draft the kid in 2013, so you really think he will be leading our team in his 2nd year of AFL? Granted he has had 1 year in the system as a 17-year-old, but he can't be in the 'elite' category of our team by the time he is 19. I understand the optimism of drafting a top recruit with the potential to be a very good player, but that sort of expectation is completely unrealistic and in the words of a wise football strategist, your are "setting him up to fail." (see what i did there...)
  11. For all the optimism displayed on this forum, I think we all have to take a good step back and realise that this is only NAB cup. Tonights game was NO indication that we will make finals this year, or even win more games. What it DID indicate was Neeld's new coaching mantra of endeavour and toughness toward the footy. It seems like the players as a collective have adopted this approach well - and this is by far the most pleasing thing for me as a Melbourne supporter. Hopefully this year will be all about one word...EFFORT!
  12. It's hard to see Beamer wanting to leave the club. He clearly bleeds red and blue, and gave an impassioned speech about the club after winning the Bluey last year. Despite his demotion from the leadership group, he doesn't strike me as the kind of player that needs a label to "lead." In terms of free agency, I think the guy we should be looking at is Mr. Deledio. He falls under the right age bracket at 24, (same as our other recruit big Mitch) and is that extra classy midfielder we need to make our midfield elite. All in all its a realistic possibility that we could nab him from tigerland with a big enough offer....
  13. Viney will, in all likelihood, be considered a first-round pick irrespective of his form this year. Therefore we're going to have to use our first pick to get him regardless.
  14. JW simply has a demeanor that makes it look like he's coasting. Other sportsman that spring to mind are Pete Sampras and Tracy McGrady. Both have that "sleepy" look while playing, which should not be construed as a lack of intensity. Maybe wattsy just has a good poker face...
  15. Goldsack is probably not one of her favourites either...
  16. 1. Stephen Milne 2. Eddie Betts 3. Steven Baker 4. Chris Judd (Because he's so damn good, it annoying he's not playing for us!)
  17. I'm a strong advocate of keeping Warnock. With the inevitable injuries that come with the modern game, you can never have too many quality defenders. However in saying that, Could there be a straight swap of Warnock to Hawthorn for Ellis? I haven't watched much of Ellis, so I'm not sure we'd get our worth here. But he was a no. 3 pick and makes an interesting proposition...
  18. Brown playing deep down back, goldsack playing loose through the middle and swinging from wing-to-wing and dick up forward. Paints a great picture for the team sheet!
  19. Hoping Dick puts in a lax performance and fails to rise to the occasion. We should really shove it up him.. ....too far?
  20. More than happy to help. all the best to your family
