I had to laugh that he is angry he can't give an oral submission. With his meticulous record keeping he shouldn't need to. Agree totally. It makes perfect sense from a marketing perspective. Not least because it clearly says MELBOURNE which no other previous jumper does. So tourists coming to Melbourne might buy for that reason alone. And anyone who does buy it, tourist or otherwise is advertising our club and building brand recognition of the logo when they wear it. Smart and i assume they will have t shits that have the logo smack bang in the middle. Besides the club email in response to a complaint about having to have clash jumpers at all notes that there is only going to be 5-6 games where a clash jumper will be needed and its possible one might be a red jumper like last year. So no big deal. All that asie i actually like it. And by the by as survey's go the OP makes a good fist of ensuring a strong anti jumper bias.

The old 'we could have/should have taken player x instead of player y' game is one of my least favorite. I couldn't care less now. Oliver is ours and he is really good young player who has something about him that suggests a real x factor and untapped potential. He's also got a pretty wide competitive streak (not to mention a touch of the angry pills) which is exactly what Roos and Goodwin were looking for However it was clear when drafted he was a pretty immature young bloke. As evidence of that compare the draft night interviews of the Weid and Oliver. Now that's no bad thing in of itself but there is no doubt the club would have carefully considered that aspect and were well aware of what they were getting. We made a calculated gamble. They obviously have backed themselves in to get the development and support right. Which i really like (by the by i shudder to think where he would be if he arrived at the dees 5 years ago). If we deliver our side of the bargain the rest is up to Oliver. My gut feel is that most young men he will mature and work things out. All that said it is serious crime he has committed and he deserves a good wack from the club and leadership group. I'll back the club in to get that wack right.

Agree. Whilst in a general sense i agree that the AFL's propensity for making deals rather than open hearing etc can be problematical i reckon in this case it is a prudent and sensible approach. A good outcome i reckon and i think that it should not be forgotten that it has ensured Allan and Lambert have been penalised - and more severely than the player which is entirely appropriate. As we saw in the EFC case with no officials being penalised there is no guarantee this would have been the case if it had gone to an AFL tribunal (who may well have exonerated Whitfield) or to ASADA. The alternative to a deal would be another long protracted expensive, palaver that benefits no one - well almost no one; the lawyers loved it. It is worth reflecting that if the EFC had taken the deals offered to them early doors by ASADA a whole lot of bull dust would have been avoided. It is also worth reflecting that again as the EFC case demonstrates there is no guarantee a Whitfield would have been found guilty if it went to tribunlas or even if he did the penalty would have been any greater.

I don't get why some posters seem to have cooled on Brayshaw and i don't get this comment. He is a gun and a completely natural footballer who reads the game beautifully. He struggled last year with concussion but also couldn't put an extended block of senior games together. I 100% disagree that he struggles with speed of the game. With a half decent run of injuries i expect a huge year from him and one that will remind people why we took him at 2 in the ahead of Petracca in the draft.

I think there is two issues. I agree that to win flags you need to be in Ross Lyon parlance an anywhere, anytime side. So that is one issue But the second is the strange way the AFL go about equalisation. Yes you can hand out a sliding scale of money but that is not a logical model in terms of maximising the financial stability of struggling clubs, increasing their fan base and attractiveness to sponsors. Instead of giving the Hawks and the EFC a leg up by giving them one of the most valuable free to air slots all year (opening round) it makes much more sense to give that leg up to the saints and the dees, two up and coming sides that play exiting footy. Or what about saints or dees versus bulldogs. The AFL might argue a EFC Hawks game might draw more people and perhaps bigger ratings so that's all good. But it infuriates me how short term this thinking is (and don't get me started on EFC getting any favours in this regard). Besides i'd argue we would pull a pretty big crowd against the Saints round one and comparable ratings. It is plain stupid.

Agree with both posts. Drive's me insane. How are we supposed to keep a city with a connection to history when we tear that history down. Such a thing would be unthinkable in most European cities. On a much smaller scale the house opposite where i live was a beaut family home that has been demolished for 3 bog ugly dog boxes. Now i don't mind that so much as increasing density is really the only way to stop the ridiculous urban sprawl occurring in Melbourne. What i do mind is that latitude developers get to build rubbish houses with rubbish material that look crap and will be knocked down in 20 years. What i mind even more is the developers complete disregard for the law. The council approved the development but mandated a beautiful flowering gum on the block had to remain. A tree that was at least 40 years old ad home to native birds that otherwise struggle against the invasion of the bloody miner birds. The demolishing crew completely cleared the site including the tree. When i called the Councillor on the day it occurred and suggested they get down there to intercede the jumped up planning apparatchik completely dismissed my concerns and said they weren't the police. They said they would investigate and i asked them to let me know the outcome (which s should be n order to plant a new tree). Three months later not a single word back form them. Meanwhile they make us jump through ridiculous hoops for the small renovation we are doing (including saying we have to put our proposed new fence back from the existing fence line a half a meter and plant shrubs in front of it - reducing our land area, sorting us money with the stupid plants and giving us another area we have to maintain - not to mention creating an are for rubbish to collect) Rant over.

I have been posting on DL for about 5 years now, perhaps 6 (or more?). We have some good trades in that time, with the best of them being Vince and Tyson.
