I thought that was my point - caoches getting their job done? My post was not a criticsim of Oliver if you read it carefully. At least he has a right foot, which Viney doesn't have. Williams had Bradley, Fraser Brown and the great Brett Ratten around him. Oliver's the raw material. Coaches take responsibility for his development in the real world. Oliver is nowhere near Williams impact as yet.

Goodwins had him for 4 years yet until the outcry mid season, from garry Lyon and others, about the bleedingly obvious lack of running away from packs first rather than the quick short handball, did we glimpse what Oliver can become. Then back into his shell later in the season to old habits. Goodwins head coach- ergo -he's responsible. Its not that Oliver is poor, its that he could be so much better in effectiveness it would be unbelievable.

There's no definitve eveidence or patterns on the benefits, or not, to being a top coach to playing in earlier premierships. For every Barassi, there's a Hafey for example (or maybe a Fagan). Being a former elite player can help though. e.g. Phil Jackson in the NBA. Yze is an AA player. Some at Adelaide rate Goodwin as the Crows best to date skipper also. He definitely has pedigree - just not yet in coaching and off-field leadership. You last point is a good one. The Age reports Yze, apart from strategy, has also been gaolkicking coach,, line coach, and a development coach under the greatest modern coach in our times. A real coup to get him into what I consider our glaring FD weaknesses (albeit defence is now sorted ).

Interestingly there's only 9 months or so between them age-wise. 43-44. yet I would value Yze's near decade under Clarkson and insdie the hawks machine (with fagan as well) as far more valuable than Goody's time at the Bombers and with us under Roos. If Yze can build on the CV with a successful stint helping Dees into finals, he will be the enxt in line for elsewhere . Good luck to him.

McCartney had an excellent reputation as an asst. coach so on face value he may hold this view stated to you. Having said that, then if true and no resaon to believe otherwise, that means the disfunctional forward/midfield connection and lack of development of A graders (like Oliver) and lack of connection of Gawns dominance, the issues fall at the feet of the entire coaching team, led by Goodwin presumable. Thus roll on Pert's "deep dive"...?

Pert is the right choice. He understands football and the current club issues. But importantly By putting him front and centre gives him a major stake in accountability to now get results. A whitewash will be the worst outcome career-wise for Pert and he will understand this. Spare me the external consultants in the current situation.

Just received also. The key words for me are "...deep dive into coaching program...". That's the problem so hallelujah and go Perty. I say.

But why on earth would Goodwin take any more notice of him that he has with other assistants. Two time premiership player - I know what I'm doing.?

The blunder isn't letting him go. Its the clubs inability to develop and improve raw talent. (Oliver, Brayshaw, Viney, are the best examples) Petracca being the exception but likey down to Burgess.

Agree on the issues and I wonder would any decent coaches actually want to come and work under Goodwin now, given the likes of McCartney and jennings have moved on, and rawlings as well. I know I wouldn't. It could be a career killer and may not help assistants with their ow development.?

But its not a team. Its just a group of players considreed the best 22 and then name slotted in somewhere. This exercise makes no sense. Some are obvious, like Trac, Gawn, Moore, Andrews, - rest are slot fillers. Hugely dissrespectful to the rest of the hard working players who "own" their positions. e.g. Papley, Langdon,

I'm always amazd that a player with the surname Daniher would even contemplate leaving the Bombers given the family history. Given that, nothing else would surprise me coming out of that club re transfers. All the old stars, like lLoyd and Watson, will always mount a defence for the status quo. Daniher leaving , or even thinking about it, suggests otherwise.

For Harris Andrews, the media's love child, goals kicked on him as follows: Kennedy 1 Hawkins 3 Lynch 3 Dixon 0 Naughton 1 Max King 0 Total 8 , for an av of 1 goal 2 behinds a game

Kennedy kicked 7 on Moore, On May he had 4 disposals for no goals, Weitering had 2 on him by Lynch, Andrews had also 3 kicked on him by Lynch. Lynch kicked 3 on Moore, and 3 on may also. if you take the best full forwards this year, ( Kennedy, Hawkins, Lynch, Hipwood, Dixon, Naughton Max King)they kicked a total of 7 , yes 7 goals on May. For an avaerage of a goal per game.

Harsh language but spot on. This error was compounded last year and will define the resolve of the Board/Club to improve. The sporting field is littered with players who never know when to quit. But being on a 6 figure salary who can blame Nathan for wanting to stay. Very few of us get to retire fully satisfied and on our own terms.
