Brilliant insight. Hilarious if it wasn't so probable.
-
yes, and a coach that can match Beveridge.
-
They don't look happy. More questions than answers re Goodwin.
-
Once again trent rivers saves the game with a killer tackle.
-
Agree. And worry about hurley forward.
-
Goal saved by vdb. Great tackle
-
Live ladder has us in the 8. But fritsch wastes a gimme. Again

Saints winning was the best outcome for us IMO. It removed the issue of sweating the % - did we kick enough goal?., avoids the 2017 heartache., etc Simple - Dees win and dockers win, both by a point, and finals are reality. GWS have imploded and the Dockers winning was always going to be a better option for success.

I was at that last match. We beat the pies at vicpark but other games didn't go our way to make finals. The upside was it resulted in the Pies winning their first evet wooden spoon. Not much consolation though. Monday’s Herald Sun headline after the game wad "Demons spoon feed Magpies". The great Laurie Fowler was knocked out cold in the first quarter.

Tonights game has 1 team with massive finals experience (GWS) vs a team with none (Saints) - with Zak Jones out. Thats what I'm hanging my hopes on why GWS get.
-
Good call. Jackson/Weideman is the future. Lets see how they go in a crunch game.

I'm not sure what a [censored] is, I guess it sounds bad. A good term when you don't have a thesaurus. He played 90 games under master coach John Longmire, and got 21 possessions in a Grand Final as a 21 year old. Better than I could do for sure
-
Not garry lyon. He was disgusted at mummy's approach and said last night in On the Couch that he's just an ex boxer and the game has no room for that behaviour
-
I would have loved zak Jones at the dees. I see him as the main change to the saints style with his toughness and running. Big loss for them. The only player in that team with finals and serious big game experience
-
Good summary. Bottom line is we need to probably win by 6 goals unless the saints lose by heaps. Thus we need a team that can score quickly in short quarters and has good accuracy, not wasting chances . A narrow win serves no purpose. The team needs the talent accordingly and that includes jackson if fit. And i would punt with Bennell also

Can't watch it. Are the suns a chance?
-
I think this a rule now to enable asst coaches not required next year to be able to start looking for a new job, rather than wait till end of season. Fair to all probably.
-
Wrong. If the saints lose by 25 points and we beat the Bombers by 25 wer'e in. If we cant beat the bombers by 50 we shouldnt be in the finals anyway. I'm not into betting, but the odds for the Saints v GWS game is 1.48 vs 2.05. That's line ball IMO . GWS are not without a good chance, especially with Josh Kelly back after a good run last week and new gun forward Jake Riccardi back after the rest and the skipper in after Camerons statement to him.

The upside is that the Giant won't know the otucomes of key results before they play on Friday and would at least give it a crack. In 2017, the Crows had secured top spot so rolled over to west coast in perth and we lost out on their resulting %.
-
Agree. And he was often quoted as a key reason Buckley got the Pies to the 2018 GF as part of that coaching squad. And they have the mighty Nat Fyffe as a foil to the Bont.
-
They will next weekend as we did in 2017. Freo are not now playing like a bottom side and have an excellent strategic coach in Longmuir. GWS showed how to put the Dogs away in last years finals. Aggressively tag Bontempelli
-
One hurdle at least was jumped for us in that the Dogs were looking at a 12 goal win and the Hawks kept it to 6. Thus they cannot beat our % if they lose next week and we win. Otherwise we would be 9th on a lower % . The dogs now MUST beat freo to stay in the 8, and cannot afford to cruise to avoid injury. Small mercy but it all adds up.

Although today is the penultimate round, I hark back to 1987 when the club needed the Hawks to beat Geelong to allow Dees into the finals. So like that day, I am a keen Hawks fan from now until 6.00pm tonight. Buckenara and Dunstall kicked 8 between them to haul in a 6 goal deficit after 3/4 time. The Dees werer misleadingly told at the 3/4 time huddle the Hawks were ahead as legend has it, as opposed to be being 4 goals down. So ignore the Split Enz classic and believe that history does repeat. - today anyway.

In Langdons post game interview on Ch 7 with Richo and James Brayshaw, he said specifically he came back home to play on the G. He said unfortunately its the Gabba for this year but the wide open space on that ground suit him also. A great answer I thought. Richo also said during his brilliant gut run in the final 1/4 leading to a goal that that effort took just as much courage to do at the end of a game as putting your head over the ball. Highly complimentary of a player who sems to be quiet and just loves running and linking. Many teams won't have a match up for him .
