Very good question. But I have 100% memory of the great Jim Cardwell sitting with Tilly on World of Sport and introdcuing him , being interviewed on the recrutiment process. At the time we paid an unbelievable transfer fee of $30,000.
-
John tillbrook. Just being smart. Cardwell and smith sure were the masters.
-
A very good point. I fear the saints small forwards and their coach Brett Ratten to really test the Dees this week.
-
May took a mark in front of me on the HFF in the first 1/4. With Lever talking the back half by himself as cover. Another question could be: " Who are the AFL's best defensive duo?" Lever/May wins by a street
-
He's important , but, he's not a match winner - albeit a great contributor. Once again yesterday he was goaless. i.e he's not Dusty, Buddy, Josh Kennedy, Danger, Selwood, Bont, But guess who is? - Petracca. Christian this year will become the club's talisman and be the difference in making finals.
-
Time of ground is an interesting stat these days and more important now to manage given fewer interchanges. Today, the inestimable duo of May and Lever played 100% and 98% time respectively, and thankfully they held up. But interestingly Langdon and Tomlinson also had 96% and 94% respectively, providing the bench with more options to rotate the midfield and small forwards in the now longer games. Very advantegeous. Freo had only one player, Meek, in the 90's at 93% and given their ruck stocks he had no choice. (Gawn matched him on 92%, presumably he may have been under instructions to only rest when Max did).

Nailed it P.

Spargo is the only forward with a semblance of composure under pressure and has vision . He showed that under 2018 finals situations. I fear for our other small forwards excl kossie.
-
Great call. Headline should be "May/Lever defeated Freo".
-
Goody put harmes as a Fyffe tag in the last 10 minutes. He was ok but if he doesn't tag he's out. James jordan embarrassed a few out there today.
-
Im with you. He's leading the others. Woefully slow forward line.
-
Good comment under normal circumstances But... Where I live its currently blowing a gale and will be a windy game. This could negate the clear advantage we have in reading the ball in the air that Lever and May have. This is a real concern as I see these two saving/winning the game as key contributors under normal conditions. It won't be the forard line
-
Great post jaded. My concerns in a nutshell. Esp the reference to God and steven may in the same sentence. Jones t mac and anb got to be least impressive half forward line in the comp.
-
Same here. Funniliy it didnt occur to me until watching the late news and saw the score. I love AFL, but jeez give us a break on the opening fixture and do soemthing original. Say, the 2 Grand finalists replaying,
-
Give them a break though. What they say is probably close to the mark.
-
Exactly, such as Ch 7 demanding team releases at 6.30 pm to cooincide with their news bulletin. And their exclusivity beating early news from Ch 10 to the punch. They pay the bills, they get what they want. Not necessarily unfair.
-
Don't risk it. You'll only miss seeeing one of Luke Jacksons 6 goals for the game. Unless you go at half time .
-
Yes. MCC tickets have no barcode either. Just seat location
-
Good point LDVC. Except that the chances of them being correct on the final 8 are largely zero. Thus the irrelevancy of it all anyway.
-
Its always interesting to read the 'pundits' tips at the start of each season on the final ladder placings. For example, today's Age has their 8 experts largely tipping only 1 change to the final 8 from last season. History tells us the avaregae churn of the final 8 each year is 2.7 ish from the previous season. So theyr'e all wrong. A bit like economists at the Reserve Bank. Happily, three of them have the Dees as finalists. So given their statistical errors in the forecasts, there's plenty of room for a Dees top 8 finish in reality. Or is there?
-
My focus was on her playing impact, but you raise a good point post career LH Its emabarrassing how superior she is in analysis and insight when working on the Ch 7 commentary team to the ' bozo former champs ' of the game that station employs.
-
Iv'e always said that Daisy Pearce should be the first selected for the men's team for just these qualities. Iv'e seen here play live anfd the intensity and anger is the real thing with her. Great Leader
-
And longmuir can coach for sure. Albeit short period on which to judge
-
True rjay. Except you have to actually be angry to have something to manage. Max is trying but anger the exactly wrong quality you need. It leads to poor decisions etc.... Why can't they be committed desperate confident focussed supportive tireless ruthless ambitious hard working. Those are qualities I'm interested in.

Nailed it Sydee. Everything else on this website is just commentary and opinion, as it should be. This is the issue.
