  1. I was at a loss to explain why Nev had not been receiving a fair go from the umps, and was wondering of it was based on unconscious bias re race. The MRP has now made it clear I was wrong and everything is hunky dory... Also for all of you having a go for using the term 'black fella' let me paste the words from one of my favourite Aussie groups the Warumpi Band. Black fella, white fella It doesn't matter, what your color As long as you, a true fella As long as you, a real fella All the people, of different races With different lives, in different places It doesn't matter, what your name is We got to have, lots of changes We need more brothers, if we're to make it We need more sisters, if we're to save it Are you the one that's gonna stand up and be counted Are you the one who's gonna be there when we shout it Are you the one that's always ready with a helping hand Are you the one who understands these family plans Black fella, white fella Yellow fella, any fella It doesn't matter, what your color As long as you, a true fella All the people, of different races With different lives, in different places It doesn't…
  2. Spare me, just quoting one of the milder comments I have heard over the years, or do you really think I endorse that?
  3. @praha This needs fixing in your index: Beat North Melbourne - Last win: Round 5, 2006 (14-game losing streak) But there is another record they need to break... I am going to Carlton vs Melbourne this week (flying in from PNG), since 2006 I have not seen a win live, I have been through a marriage and divorce (I took the ex to a terrible game with North), children, and still no win (from 2007 to 2013 I always made an effort to go to a game, but when time home is so precious, organizing to see a loss became demoralizing and stopped - Summer is by far a better time to come home). I really, really, really want the Dees to break my personal hoodoo because otherwise I am going to be the albatross and I won't want to come back for finals. Admittedly I don't travel to the G much, time of year and working outside of Australia.
  4. Nev is stoic, without doubt, and not a sook which is obvious for all to see, It still doesn't explain to me why or justify what I think is a blind spot by officialdom. @daisycutter makes a fair point re proof, but note I use the term 'subconscious racism', because I am not arguing it is deliberate, I just honestly can't find an explanation that fits in the absence of another reason, and am looking to see what people think. I have no idea of how to get into peoples heads and prove anything one way or another, am just positing it, in the absence of a better explanation. I am happy to go with group think on whether people here think Nev gets a fair go? and if anyone else thinks he cops alot of dubious hits. If it is my bias to a player who I am a huge fan of then well, I will withdraw.
  5. I think Nev has demonstrated outstanding durability for the heavy physical work he does, but I am really over seeing him getting whacked with little or no consequence and reckon the club should ask a question about it. Last season it was a feeling, and this season I think it is something else. Except for one free yesterday, I think Nev gets bashed from pillar to post and doesn't get the frees he deserves and that quite a few of the shots he cops have been deserving of sanction. He has had concussion issues in his history and I would hate to see him finish before his time. Now I know I'll probably get yelled down for throwing petrol on embers, but I almost think the umpsMRP/MRO have a little subconscious racism, along the lines of ' he's a black fella and can cope'. I am at a loss to explain it any other way. I don't see him as someone who gives the umpires a earful either (the occasional grumble maybe) so that he has lost friends amongst officialdom. Anyway @Fairgo4Nev I reckon.
  6. Happy that Patton/Watson/McCartin/Boyd are in the spotlight ATM, feels like the focus has moved away from Jesse, thankfully, the incident is now firmly in the rearview. Jesse I think has really earn't some pats on the back for dealing with all the grief thrown at him and also his body language on the field has also improved out of sight. I seriously wouldn't swap him for any of these other 4.
  7. Certainly my experience that externals feel the need to put their fingerprints on things for the sake of it. I don't think PJ has kept to many muppets at the club, it hasn't been riven by leaks, if the said any of the three names mentioned I would be willing to place trust in that. Although that said, 30 and only marketing experience makes me nervous. Mahoney would be my choice, (which means not much-but I feel like he communicates effectively).
  8. Agree with the love, but I never felt like he was scarred, just injured, I thought he coped with Neeld times quite well, as he was not really a millenial, must be a Tassie thing ...
  9. This is not the Fab Five, If i might humbly propose we call our midfield the 'Hunters & Collectors' (eight contested ball winners, get it?), on our way to the Holy Grail, (Although somedays I think I am going to be as old as the 'Grail Knight' in the Indiana Jones film by the time we salute..) Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw, Hogan, Salem, Petracca, Jones and Tyson
  10. It is GC, actually a good team for Viney to play against, reckon he can skip VFL. Jeffy needs to prove he should be there. Hunt saved by his run, Salem I read was a busted thumb (@ base)? is this correct he is going to need a few needles for that a bowman's fracture is nasty... Weid stays, i'm tipping he will kick 3.
  11. What I love is that normally when you try three tall fwds you get burnt by the lack of mobility. However for us having Hogan and Tmac who are both super mobile we have created a match up nightmare for the opposition. This is only going to get better.
  12. You're probably right, but I live in hope the fittness department can weave the same magic they did with Tommy McD, is about time 4two6 didn't equal half a season..
  13. He was chopped in the throat, yes he fell (but being a biased supporter) I excuse this as the force was hard enoung to justify the free he was making sure the ump saw it. I also think it is a hell of allot better than him turn around and smacking Carlisle and getting weeks. Was furious he missed though. Was still BOG.
  14. Yes, but ANB for Salem or Viney? isn't Viney due back next week? Who would you choose, I feel that Viney scares opposition players (i really like that) even if Salem is a better kick and has some mongrel of his own.
  15. loved winning when we were a $1.32 to win, was watching the live ladder, thought we might make 8th but didn't, thought St Kilda showed up today, however if you added up all the ifs and buts, when equalled for both sides, we were still clearly better. Yet again Petracca would have the Saints nashing their teeth. Oliver I love, but am starting to get frustrated he doesn't kick a little more, he would seriously open up other sides, with 10 more kicks per game. Hogan was strong all game, I actually struggle to think of a game he has played better, and his head space seemed much better when kicking for goal, was a Matthew Richardson (on a good day) type performance. Angus has found his mojo in a serious way, will steal Brownlow votes off Clarry this year. My one whinge - ANB is not in the top ten, but he tries hard enough for mine, I really think there are some pretty miserable folks on here the way they chew him out, because you can't fault his effort, yes he needs to be better with his disposal, but the way he is described, you'd think he wasn't trying, and that is just not true. I can see him as being the first dropped to make way for Viney though, let's just be a little graceful for someone who is clearly a good servant of the club. Salem... hmm Harmes almost did enough to stay, Hannan looks like a threat, and both Vince and Lewis were very solid, Hunt was OK. I think Salem waits another week, then one of those just named). As Beez said - good on Goodwin for learning the best way to play Leaver, has now played two good games in a row, he also showed why he will never be Tom McD that kick for goal was putrid. Was wearing my Garmin today, HR didn't go past a 100 felt like we had it the whole way - that hasnt happened since i think bluetooth was invented
  16. This is what we saw in the first year + intensity, late in the game he got a little head knock, heart in mouth moment.
  17. 6. Hogan 5. Brayshaw 4. Oliver 3. Gawn 2. Hibberd 1. Tyson sorry jones & lewis
  18. HOGAN BOG so far, has some competition but he's playing with a desire that is beautiful to watch. We were lucky the Saints shoot like the Somali militia. Pat TomMc the million, while the game was in the balance at the start he did some 1% things that demonstrated will.
  19. This season if he kicks 40+ off a limited pre - season I think a million a season is fair - I would wait a little to just check that the run of goals last year wasn't a fluke (I dont think it will be) if he is sub 35 goals his price stays 800-1mil
  20. Enough for every AFL player in the country to overdose. Thought 360 last night was a bit soft, what are the chances that some of these drugs he is shifting ends up with AFL players. Cry me a river, this bloke is greedy, full stop, he will get a 4-5 year custodial sentence and do 2 at the very most. If the molly is pure then he is up for large commercial quantity (could get 8 years) but if its 'in mixture' then he just gets done for commercial quantity. Note, sentencing comments are my own guess - not the legislated maximums. there is no good behaviour bond for this [censored]. If I was him I'd be paying one of the other bloke huge money to take the fall. edit - Victorian sentencing manual, am not a sentencing expert, but seems a good case for a category 1 offence. http://www.judicialcollege.vic.edu.au/eManuals/VSM/index.htm#64404.htm
  21. Did you agree or disagree with this? ANB, jeez people are quick to jump on him, overall his trajectory is improving, not the 1st to be dropped by any means, am going to write a post about ANB later. Hunt, this was the 1st game this year where I thought he had refound his run, bombs it like a former dee Moloney and I want that to change - I think opposition will learn from Essendon mistake in giving him that run. But was thinking his game showed promising signs Harmes is always what he has been, why the surprise? Tyson is having a good year overall.
  22. Drugs Lord did not want to get did of Hibberd, Milkshake not sure, i think his best and worst are schizophrenic, and they were frustrated.
