WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BERNIE VINCE
hardtack replied to Ted Lasso's topic in Melbourne Demons
Ok, I'll accept what you define as being the requirements of a good servant and repeat that I wasn't particularly disappointed when he left. I can't think of one other player on our list at that time that could be compared to Jones...he was more the exception that proved the rule where dedication and work ethic at the MFC were concerned. It would have been interesting to see what Roos could have got out of Col, as along with Watts, he was a required player when Roos was trying to get him to remain at the club. As for the use of the word "hero", I think it's very appropriate in many cases on these forums... or are you just disappointed I'm not using prefixing it with the word "keyboard"? -

Here we go... because we get sick of the heroes on here continually putting the boot into former (and current) players, we must feel some sort of emotional attachment, or are accepting of mediocrity??? Where have we stated that Col leaving was a bad thing? I am just sick and tired of the critics on here who, as soon as one hero sticks the boot in, follow blindly like sheep. As TheoX correctly stated, Col was a good servant of the club who was inconsistent... that is a very accurate statement, so why should he be rubbished for it? -

Yes, but you forget, there are a lot of champions on the forums that could have done a much better job than Col. -

That is hardly Neeld's legacy... that is the legacy of the committee that selected Neeld.

I think it's more likely that the media are getting some of their info through sites like Demonland and formulating their "opinions" based purely on that.

An old friend of mine John Mills (played keyboards with Spectrum and then Ariel) used to live in the Gatwick in the late 70's... he was a bit of a nerd... to the point of building a smallish (by the standards of the day) mainframe in his room. That was (and probably still is) one very strange private hotel.

Essendon: Giving it our best shot!

I'm pretty sure Redback was from Anchor brewery...it's ok, but there are plenty of better beers around these days... as a brewery I would think that James Squire probably turn out the most consistently good varieties. Having said that, I''m partial to the Japanese beer Yebisu...very smooth. Tried a couple of nice ciders at a Wooloomooloo pub (The Old Fitzroy) on Friday... not sure who produces them (they were on tap) but one was simply called Cloudy Cider and the other Pink Lady Cider... both very tasty. As for Absinthe...all I remember is something about Absinthe making the phart go Honda.

Is this a new strain of MFCSS we are seeing here...MFCSS Extremis? The reason we are on the last line of betting is because of where we are coming from. Roos has not coached a single game yet and the team as it now is, has not played a single game yet. Why on earth would anyone rate us until they have seen us play? Roos is a very good coach, but I doubt he is a miracle worker and I very much doubt we will get any higher than 10th to 12th in 2014...betting agencies by nature will be fairly conservative in their approach, so not rating a team simply because it is coached by Roos, is not really surprising. I think that by round three after which we will have had three games preseason against strong opposition and a couple of "real" games against teams we are rated closer to, you might find our odds will start to shorten.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JAY KENNEDY-HARRIS

And the best thing is that if we don't have Dawes up and ready to go round 1, then Fitzpatrick is waiting in the wings. Nice to have a little depth for a change. -
The wortht offender theems to have gone mything

Definitely "recalcitrant" if it's the comment directed at Malaysia's Mahatir we are talking about.
-
Like Samson and his short back and sides, your name changed seems to have weakened your powers of comprehension... unless of course you can direct me to said bile soaked commentary re TA? Regardless, it wouldn't have mattered as it would have been in an appropriate topic... this however happens to be a topic about Paul Roos preseason update... NOT about Neeld... but you feel free to keep staring into your rear view mirror Benny boy.

Yes, Hur, Myth - gender reassignment, forum style

Why should Neeld's legacy not be forgotten by the supporters on Demonland or supporters in general? We should wallow in our angst rather than look forward to a bright new era? Yes, I can understand the thought that maybe the club should use that period as a line in the sand that we should never cross again, but how does it help us supporters? How does it help us here on Demonland to hear the same bile soaked commentary on past leaders of the club over and over again? Sorry, but I find it far more churlish to think that it is yours or anybody else's right to continually sidetrack discussions on this forum with attacks on past administrations. Sure, compare tactics, training regimens etc, but keep the petty stuff out of it.

No, that was probably torn up in a fit of rage

Nice report CBD... ;-)

Name 3 players you are keen to see in 2014 and why
hardtack replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
As was already said, he has probably come to terms with that... however, Fitzpatrick was also diagnosed with type one diabetes mid last year, so I imagine that would have had a not insignificant impact on him and his improvement this year may well have been related to his adapting to that change. -
Actually, it IS "apart" of (or more correctly, from), but NOT "a part of" the NAB Cup Challenge Appropriate that the Richmond game is on the 14th February... not a lot of love lost between the two teams. And if it's going to be a massacre, let's hope we're not on the receiving end.

or perhaps, a not-so-civil engineer in King's case.

Liam Jurrah's attempt at a comeback
hardtack replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
And just exactly how many times and how many peoples' lives has he put at risk? Yes, he made a big error of judgement by driving when extremely drunk (I haven't seen any official reports of a more recent drunk driving charge), he has done time for one crime and he was never charged with attacking anyone with a machete. Fair enough to have a low opinion of him, but what is the point of the exaggeration? -
I was making that comparison on here a long time ago... and I disagree (not with you HH) re Plugger not being such a great bloke; I thought he was a great person, quite a private person who "quietly" went about his job without being a show pony.

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
hardtack replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
If you look at the AFL's FB page in the topic dealing with Hird's payment, there are a surprising (or unsurprising perhaps) number of supporters right behind him... all flashing the #standbyhird hashtag.
