  1. Unfortunately I couldn't get along, but I would have thought that the highlight would have been when Mr Hannaford himself got up and played all resplendent in orange.
  2. I was just reading an article from the New Yorker that is about the Cascadia fault line in North East US... but there was one paragraph that I thought summed up pretty well the attitude of the deniers: "On the face of it, earthquakes seem to present us with problems of space: the way we live along fault lines, in brick buildings, in homes made valuable by their proximity to the sea. But, covertly, they also present us with problems of time. The earth is 4.5 billion years old, but we are a young species, relatively speaking, with an average individual allotment of three score years and ten. The brevity of our lives breeds a kind of temporal parochialism—an ignorance of or an indifference to those planetary gears which turn more slowly than our own." I recommend the article regardless, as a very good (if frightening) read: http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/07/20/the-really-big-one
  3. Can we bring god into this so that this thread can be shut down... at least the other thread was entertaining.
  4. No, it's someone who works very long hours. Oh, and the only reason "god" exists is essentially because people are afraid of dying. Oh + oh... and to take the word of the bible as, pardon the pun, gospel, is fraught with danger... imagine if factual news articles were written by telling a story to one person, getting that person to whisper it to the person next to them and so on via thousands upon thousands of other people with the last person in the chain typing up the completed news item. Chinese whispers I believe it is called and that is precisely what the bible is comprised of.
  5. They mentioned on AFL360 last night that he would be most likely meeting with and telling Adelaide management today what his plans are.
  6. The majority are probably christian by birth, but I would have thought that of those, a minority are actually practicing christians (that is, regularly attending church, playing bingo, acting holier than thou, laying the vicar etc etc).
  7. And all who fail, I mean, sail in her.
  8. Or Brad and Cam or Col and Broc... umm
  9. And without Derek and Clive we would never have got the Horn.
  10. Thanks guys... appreciate the thoughts (and the humour BBO).
  11. Just a quick update on my son's injury (I know you've all been hanging out for it)... Not good. It was just as well I took teh advice of a number of posters here and got the MRI done (so sincere thanks to all). I took my son and scans today to see a Sports Physician Dr George Pitsus who is also a medico for the Cronulla NRL team (yes I asked him about Dank, and he told me that he came in as a part of the club rebuild following the scandal). The following was evident from the scans (Webber and some others may understand)... high grade partial thickness tear of the anterior cruciate ligament with hyperintensity, irregularity and detachment of the ligament evident both proximally at the femoral attachment and distally at the tibial attachment. Transitional contusions in the lateral femoral and tibial condyle and the medial femoral condyles. Grade 2 tear of the medial collateral ligament. Oh, and there was a small piece of bone detached. And in case you didn't understand that, it essentially means his knee is pretty [censored] and he is in need of a reconstruction that will happen in about 6 weeks; so his footy season is done and in a year where they look like taking out the prize for the first time in a while (well, since before he joined). Poor bugger. What amazes me is that when I have seen these injuries in the AFL, the player involved is usually writhing around in agony... Liam barely flinched and shed not a tear. I can only assume these things are much worse as you get older.
  12. Sorry, but I'm not sure I can see any link between rising sea levels and Abbott's turning back of the boats (other than the fact that the boats do travel through water). And you question the value or relevance of DL's links?
  13. Not to mention that the conditions were the same for both teams; ergo, not an excuse.
  14. Thanks for all of the great info/suggestions. re the last line, we don't play your mob (been a couple of seasons since the last time)... instead they send us to places like Baulkham Hill, Penant Hills, Narabeen etc. One of my son's old team mates started at Easts last year... he was a nice kid and a great player (named Marco), but had a bit of a soccer mentality when it came to getting hit (would go down like he'd been shot).
  15. You're not wrong... particularly when I had him in me ear every second day from end of season last year telling me he wished the footy season would start soon. Heartbreaking actually.
  16. Yeah, that's what I figured as well. Anyway, I'm taking him in tomorrow morning and will take it from there. He's already feeling a lot better from just having the leg up for the last few days... and the swelling seems to be going down much more quickly than the week to a week and a half the doctor had estimated (maybe the singing and mint tea bag did work after all)..
  17. Already tried that and it didn't work... not sure if it was my singing, the mint, of the fact that I used a mint tea bag. Oh, and coriander doesn't work either... or basil, or thyme (I was told it would take thyme to heal properly).
  18. Actually, that's something I should look into. Thanks for that.
  19. Yeah, it's great to see the support on here... we all have our differences, but when it comes to the crunch, we all get behind each other. Fortunately my son's a pretty resilient kid and I'm sure he'll be back better than ever... I mean to say, he's a Dees supporter (and member) so he used to set backs. I try to ride from time to time and do a lot of walking,... being 63, my legs are still keeping me above the ground :-)
  20. Thanks Fence! We're in Sydney, so I will be looking around... but so far It's Time's suggestion of Nathan Gibbs seems to be the best.
  21. I get my GP to refer for the MRI and I will get him to do a referral to Gibbs as well.
  22. Thanks all for the advice and for the best wishes... really greatly appreciated. I may follow up on your advice It's Time... I might get him down to the local imaging centre in Marrickville to get an MRI and then head over to Nathan Gibbs in Kensington to have it reviewed.
  23. Thanks ET... pain and discomfort aren't bothering him at all... it's missing out on game time that's killing him.
