Nathan Jones is the only reason that I still believe that players can develop at Melbourne. Our young players seem to start off playing well and stagnate but Jones seems to be the only exception. Would be good to see young players follow Jones' example in pre-season similar to what Lewis Jetta did with Kieran Jack this year.
His kicking has gotten worse and he is a one way player. The 13 tackle game was the exception, not the rule, for Petterd's defensive efforts. His main strength is marking inside 50 and he seems to be caught up the ground a lot these days which makes him pretty much useless.
I would rather get Gwilt. He would be an upgrade on Joel Mac and it would mean Grimes can play midfield almost full-time. Would add a bit more composure and skill to our backline and will come a lot more cheaply than Goddard. Also a free agent.
We need Jetta in ASAP. Exactly what we need in our midfield at the moment. Incredibly evasive, disposal looked good yesterday, good spread and we know he has the prerequisite grunt.
Nobody knew who Koby Stevens was until his manager made him look like God personified in pre-season. I wouldn't trade someone like Petterd unless he proves himself further this year
old55 said it best. The game has changed and people have different roles to what was once the norm.
You need to embrace modern footy terminology and tactics to understand anything that happens these days. The 'king it long' brigade, the people that collectively sigh and moan when one of our players kicks backwards and people that think that the positions today are the same as in the glorious 80s have NFI. You need to adapt or the game will pass you by.
Good half-backs with leadership qualities will play a large role in dictating the play in front of them. They direct teammates, decide which wing to head down, whether to switch, etc. That's pretty similar to a quarterback.
billy, stop acting like a fascist dictator. Who cares how other people refer to the rebounding defender's role? The quarterback is a good analogy and it shouldn't matter if it originates from an evil American code or Aussie rules. People can say whatever they want. Stop wasting cyberspace.
