  1. Michael Newton is YOUNGER than Stefan Martin. Give him a chance to show what he's got, like we gave Martin. He deserves it based on form.
  2. I know it was a thrashing, but watch the Sydney game from last year and any doubt you have will disappear. Wona is a gun
  3. I agree with your post entirely until the bolded part. I think there IS a place for Rivers in 3-4 years and, should we make the Granny, I think he will be there as our space-clogging, intercepting 3rd man up. Frawley and Garland are our 2 1-on-1 defenders and unless Tom McDonald comes on in leaps and bounds, it'll be Rivers as the 3rd tall.
  4. I think Jetta has been wrongly pigeonholed as a fast Indigenous player. In my opinion he doesn't have great pace but his positioning, fantastic lateral movement and good set of evasive skills allow him to overcome the lack of burst speed. With these skills I believe he is better suited to a more inside midfield role than a speedy outside midfield role.
  5. Yeh I was thinking about that game today. He played HFF, wing and HBF. Great game
  6. Yeh Maric stood still under that like an U8s Auskicker
  7. Grimes 31 touches BOG, Jurrah 4, Green 4, Petterd 3 and Bartram to destroy McGlynn with ferocious tackling once again
  8. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/melbourne-bad-boy-colin-sylvia-put-on-notice/story-e6freck3-1226028745220 Sylvia caught out late drinking. I think it's an overreaction by the club all things considered
  9. That incident is the main one but I've heard a few things about his character that aren't great from people that know him.
  10. He's not quite right upstairs. Doesn't fit our club culture.
  11. 1. My opinion isn't polemic..go and buy a dictionary 2. Nobody in the world will believe your hunch over the opinions of those based on hard facts
  12. 9 goals in 2 weeks as an underage player shows that he is far from a one-trick pony. Watch the second video if you think your opinion is still valid. After that, add a year and a preseason to him and that's what we've got. Those of us who saw him play VFL last year and went to Visy Park to watch him play have opinions that aren't worthless and hopelessly polemic like yours buddy.
  13. The simple solution is to watch these two videos champ! <--- Luke as a bottom age player (4 goal game following a 5 goal game as a 17 year old) <--- Luke as a top age player
  14. I think it would be a complete waste having Petterd as a sub. He is extremely dangerous and hard to match up on and even if he is a tad underdone, he will go a long way to winning us the game considering Sydney's backline absentees. And FWIW I believe Garland will take Goodes for the majority of the game considering Bradshaw is out and Goodes is likely to play close to goal. The 3cm height difference won't be too much of a problem and having MacDonald and Rivers there as 3rd men up will be very effective. I believe Dunn will play onball at times to give us a presence at stoppages. They have a lot of hard inside midfielders, including Kennedy who is 96kg so we need Dunny to provide blocks and strong tackles for Sylvia and Jetta among others to have the luxury of a bit more space in the clinches. In the absence of Kennelly and Malceski, I think our half forwards will punish any attacking moves by the Sydney back half with strong marking and hard running back towards goal in true Melbourne fashion. If we make them play accountable football then they will be without much run off half back and if they try to play attacking football we will punish them "on the counter". This is where the game will be won by us I believe.
  15. Bartram Garland Grimes Rivers Warnock Davey Bennell Sylvia Jetta Maric Dunn Watts Jurrah Green Petterd Jamar Moloney Jones Bench: Trengove Tapscott Warnock Sub: Bail
  16. Moloney, Jones, Sylvia, Jetta should be enough hardness in my opinion. Looks a bit slow as a whole but shouldn't be a problem against Sydney. I think this game will be won by our half forwards exploiting Sydney's complete lack of a half back line due to injuries.
  17. Looking at the end of the Queen's Birthday game last year, Jones had the biggest impact in the last quarter. He kept running full-bore and winning hard balls, second, third efforts and almost completely negated Swan and nearly won us the game. For this reason I'd say Jones would be a likely candidate along with Jamie Bennell who could impact the game in a different way; with line-breaking speed and as a mobile, goal kicking, marking outside player. I'd say it's out of these two.
  18. I reckon he's shown at least as much as Bail this preseason but with much better kicking. Moloney and Jones in the same team slows the midfield down way too much in my opinion, but there could be a whole new thread about that. The only way Jones and Moloney can line up on the field together is with Jones playing an outside midfield role, in which I believe Evans has far more scope for improvement. Evans is faster, has better kicking and according to his draft profile, strong overhead marking which are the neccessary strengths for that role, which I don't believe Jones possesses. We already know what Jones can do and at the moment, he isn't showing enough (admittedly, returning from injury). Evans would have to be close to selection so we can see what he can do in the real stuff.
  19. I would pick him ahead of Bail, Jones, Strauss, Blease and Gysberts at this stage.

  22. Hopefully this will mean more Scorps games on TV
