  1. From what I have seen, Wines does not seem to have much of a 'hurt factor'. He is not quick, he has a big body but he doesn't seem to use it the way Viney or Dustin Martin do and he doesn't seem to burrow to the bottom of packs to extract. Sort of reminds me of Brent Moloney and I think he will slide, possibly to around pick 10. Could someone who has seen him more please give their thoughts.
  2. There's another team called Hawthorn as well
  3. I spoke to him a couple of years ago and his opinion of Melbourne was that we were an absolute joke and all our players were duds. I doubt his mind has changed enough to leave a club who nearly won a flag to us for a little bit more money.
  4. He's consistent but he plays pretty much the easiest position on the ground and he isn't as damaging as a Josh Gibson or Sam Fisher. He won't leave a gaping hole.
  5. Agree. He's going to surprise a few if he stays fit.
  6. I would have thought that GC would only be accepting picks due to their list reduction
  7. Right now, GWS and GC are thinking: '[censored], Jack's been told that the Dees probably won't take him with pick 3. No way I'm risking letting them have Grundy/Toumpas/whoever.' This is just what we want.
  8. If Jack himself doesn't even think we will take him at 3, then Gold Coast and GWS will have NFI and won't risk losing a top 2 pick. Simple as that.
  9. We could get a seriously good player for pick 13/14. Think David Mundy, Grant Birchall, Jack Riewoldt, Jack Grimes, Harry Taylor, Luke Shuey, Sam Blease, David Zaharakis, Lewis Jetta, Nat Fyfe, Shaun Atley. That is the calibre of player usually available in that range. I know that for every one of these players there's a dud, but we should back ourselves to pick someone of quality. All of the above players are better than Wellingham and Dawes. Cumulatively, they may be better, but you don't trade a Nat Fyfe for a Wellingham and Dawes, so why trade pick 13/14? It's still a bloody high pick. I'm sure Hawthorn will be confident of picking up a great player with pick 21 or whatever they'll have. I won't be happy if we trade the pick. (pick 4 is not even worth addressing)
  10. I would like to see him up forward, as some have mentioned. He kicked 3 in a quarter against a dominant Geelong backline a few years back IIRC. He is actually quite good overhead and is a good long kick. Makes sense.
  11. Did anyone else get the impression Harrington sort of advertised our picks to other clubs for trade?
  12. When you look at how much of an impact Mike Pyke and Pearce Hanley have made to their teams, we'd be silly not to invest some time in an international rookie or two, considering they barely cost a thing.
  13. Why would Rivers sign as soon as possible when he knows that we have a huge amount of cap space? Anyone with half a brain would try to use their free agent status to claim some of the extra money available.
  14. I think that pick 13 is overs for Welligham and I would rather chance our luck in the draft. I actually think that pick 17 is overs as well, but, due to West Coast being on the verge of a flag, they can afford to pay a bit too much for a ready-made top up instead of waiting a couple of years for a kid to come on, a luxury we can afford.
  15. If we can manage to get another 2nd round pick, I would love to pick up Anthony Tipungwuti as a small forward option. Has speed, skill and goal sense and isn't rake thin. He reminds me a lot of Wonaeamirri.
  16. I don't think people are excited by Bynres at all, but rather satisfied that we can pick up someone to fill a void in our team, because we have nobody on our entire list that is capable of playing as a decent small crumbing forward in front of Clark/Sellar/whoever else. I think most will agree that Blease will end up as a midfielder when he builds his tank and it will be an uphill battle for Davey to stay on past 2013.
  17. 'Melbourne Football Club' isn't a recruiter so our past record of recruiting players in the first round is largely irrelevant. Mark Neeld, Neil Craig, Todd Viney and co. are the ones who will be selecting players, so pointing out Dean Bailey and Barry Prendergast's past mistakes is a naive thing to do. Give Neeld and his men a chance to do their thing before assuming they will stuff up.
  18. I would rather take a punt in the draft than settle for the second best/safe(ish) option in Caddy. I think a lot of clubs would be happy to part with players equal to Caddy in ability for pick 13, but that's just my opinion.
  19. Using pick 13 on someone who finished 19th in the BNF after playing every game is equally, if not more, flawed. Mitch Clark cost pick 12. We can do better.
  20. Hmmmm, 'I don't think anyone on here effing cares', possibly.
  21. Scary lookin' duuuude. As Olisik said, does anyone know if he has anything other than a nice kick?
