  1. Whether he can coach or not is still up for debate, but when Bailey spoke tonight it made me want to run through the walls. He didn't rant and rave but was pretty inspirational. Not a millionth as inspirational as Jim though. He looked unbelievable considering what he's been through.
  2. I agree 100% with that, but it's almost as farcical a comment by the paper as when they said John Meesen would miss the NAB Cup. At least that was factual in its own sick way.
  3. Quality stuff. More please.
  4. They must have missed the eight games Wonaeamirri played last year.
  5. Timing is average for me. Tried desperately to hook up a work related meeting somewhere nearby that morning to no avail.
  6. Muttiah Muralitharan? Handy for chucking matches next time there's priority picks available.
  7. I'm sick to death of this obsession with messing about with sports just to try and make them jazzier for the TV audience. I love a wacky idea as much as the next person, but call me when the game is stuffed, nobody's watching it and attendances are in the toilet.
  8. It's not the opposition players they need to be worried about, it's the sound of 20,000 people pissing themselves laughing the first time NDS touches the ball.
  9. Wouldn't have an issue with it but would prefer Green.
  10. Apologies as a player - retired due to ineptitude. Don't suppose there's much chance of filming the game/commentating it as Gosch's either is there? Nowhere for a booth? Shouldn't matter anyway because most of it will be made up - especially if all the Carlton players will be referred to as Earl Spalding. So if anybody wants to provide a camera and start a broadcast booth I'll be in for it. Otherwise, I'll join the coaching panel. We'll try not to flood the backline for obvious reasons.
  11. Gutted this thread died because I need the link to the last Crosswell column that I posted where he admitted to honking onto a bucket of KFC and some amphetamines before the 1970 Grand Final. UPDATE You'd never believe it but I just guessed a date and there it was http://news.google.com.au/newspapers?id=IkoQAAAAIBAJ&sjid=y5IDAAAAIBAJ&pg=3646%2C4769575
  12. You'd have to be to get a book about Phil Gilbert published.
  13. Emotive moments and 5000 pages of tributes aside the fact that he was 'famous' explains why anybody would put out a book about Freo.
  14. Maybe, but the day I saw that somebody had actually put out a book by some idiot writing about his life following the Fremantle Dockers I started to wonder wtf was going on with the publishing industry in this country. I've got the feeling that there's a truckload of books from various angles - journos etc.. - about your "big four" but maybe it's the norm for the rest of us. I think there are South Melbourne/Sydney and St Kilda histories out there that are written by sympathetic journos but they might have been doing it for the club for all I know. Either way, get writing kids.
  15. Went past Melbourne Sports Books today and picked up Dumb Like A Fox and the Urge To Merge. They've also got copies of the Flower book there. Strikes me that there has never been a book about the club that wasn't either produced by the club itself or from an ex-player/coach/identity.
  16. Shame neither of them did anything!
  17. I just nabbed the Flower book thanks to the Buy It Now feature. $13 with postage maybe slightly OTT but screw it, it's easier than trawling op shops. How's the guy trying to sell an ex-Library copy of Grand Old Flag for $65? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/GRAND-OLD-FLAG-History-Melbourne-Football-Club-hcdj-/370418070302?pt=AU_Non_Fiction_Books_2&hash=item563ea3331e
  18. Unfortunately while Google News Archive itself is genius (scans of actual newspapers) the search feature is complete rubbish and tells me that there's no articles with Crosswell's name from 1980 onwards despite the fact that I found about ten mentions of him looking at Saturday papers from during early 80's footy seasons on there. If I stumble across any of the columns accidentally (and that's what it'll have to be) I'll take some screenshots and post them. Also to add to the original post on the thread I believe there's a Jacko book called Dumb Like A Fox from sometime in the late 80's though I've never seen it.
  19. How can the championship team be overrated?
  20. Maybe that's where the quotes in the Barassi book come from, they're written as if they're from a book (or a newspaper column) rather than an interview which is what made me think there had been an autobiography. What era were the columns? Google News Archive has scans of The Age up to 1989 so I should be able to turn up a few of them. My favourite Crosswell gimmick is when he got reported in what was going to be his second last game and told the tribunal he was going to retire anyway so he'd may as well not even bother showing up to the hearing.
  21. One tweet before he said Phil Hughes would get a ton in the first innings about nine minutes before he got out.
  22. Is there a Brent Crosswell book from the 80's? Obviously wouldn't be more than a handful of pages about when he played for us, but it'd be an entertaining read considering he's so left-field.
  23. The ones I have include; 100 Years of Football - The story of the Melbourne Football Club by ECH Taylor (1958) 150 Heroes - 150 Players. 150 Years. Melbourne Football Club by Garrie Hutchinson (Hardie Grant Books) Barassi by Peter Lalor (Allen & Unwin) Melbourne FC - An Illustrated History by Various Authors (Geoffrey Slattery Publishing 2008) Ron Barassi - Icons of Australian Sport (Hyperactive Publishing) <--- this is a cracker, a scrapbook of news clippings from his career. Sacked Coach by Stan Alves and Col Deane (Crown Content) The Demon Within by Garry Lyon (HarperSports) The Red Fox by Ben Collins (Slattery Media Group) Tom Wills - His Spectacular Rise and Tragic Fall by Greg DeMoore (Allen & Unwin) Would love to read the Flower and Stynes books as well. Not so sure on the Schwarz book unless I can get it second hand considering it's wafer thin and far too expensive for what there is. Also wouldn't mind a copy of Grand Old Flag by Lynda Carroll if anyone has one lying around that they want to get rid of.
  24. Are you sure you were in the airport and not a bar?
  25. No wonder Thwaites always looks so depressed walking down the street.
