Going to go out on a limb here While I have said I reckon Tom is going all this speculation is clouding the fact we actually won today Reckon there is not much more to speculate about until we actually here an announcement I think the next Scully thread should be opened when there is actually an official announcement Whether negative or positive speculation is consuming the board. what are people's thoughts?

How good has Howe been really impressing today. Watts has been very good too

One of the biggest criticisms of Fev was his unwillingness to chase and tackle. If your not willing to go when its your turn the entire team is let down. A slack forward Will be carved up by a running defender every day of the week if their not willing to tackle. Jurrah will never kick 100 he is a 3rd tall 50 to 80 a year would be ideal.
-
I heard somewhere not sure where hasn't he been carrying a calf strain? I'd be happy with three and like others some real defensive effort. Same goes for Petterd if he plays forward really need to show some Defensive will when they haven't got the ball.

Astonishing the same MFC you credit with saving the club you then backhand by saying they're employing spin doctors. Apparently anyone who doesn't agree with your extreme view are sucks. Stands to reason if you think Jim saved us from extinction according to your own definition you are a suck. Or is it that your that confused and disorientated you don't know what your talking about.

The assertion that MFC supporters accept mediocrity is wrong and to purport this trait as being endemic within our supporters is at best creating a negative stereotype and at worst self flagellating. Your not a 'hard' supporter if every time your team looses you pot the coach or your run doom and gloom it's all a bit too much like Foghorn Leghorn We have collectively been through the toughest period of our history. I sat through the 2007, 2008 and 2009 I saw 13 wins in 3 years I was one of the 19k that sat through a half of footy against Freo to be 50 points down to come back and win by a goal. I have at times thought this club would kill me. But I have always tried to have a sense of perspective on where we are at this is how: The Theory of Expectation Versus Reality Reality: Collingwood in Maxwell's own words took 3 years to implement their system they started 2007. We are less experienced now then at any time in our rebuild period. Our team playing against Essendon and Collingwood were less experienced games played then Gold Coast's respective sides. Our players lack the playing maturity to adhere to structures for sustained periods under sustained pressure they are for want of a better term 'quintessential confidence players' i.e. The opposition get on top and we rarely threaten. Average playing age yesterday 22 years 7 months, Gold Coast this round 22 years 9months. Our mature players are at best B graders we have no inform elite players. Key players suffering injury Davey, Grimes, Garland and Jamar have most affected the way we set up. Q/B Last year on Average a year older and 11 games more experience. last year we lost over 800 games experience. Adelaide lost nearly double that last year and see what it's done there. Our list clean out really only finished last year. Expectation Firstly whether right or wrong the club adopted a philosophical move away from 'rebuild' to 'expectation' with a 'we're out of excuses for under-performing' We weren't clear on our objectives: Was it to make the finals or is it player development. The media expected us to improve and lots of people had/have us making the eight. We should have/be focused on key player development this should of been/be the company line this would of managed fan/media expectation. e.g. The club would of been better served spruiking players playing games together Trengove, Skully, Tapscott, Grimes, Gysberts While the company line can't be injuries are an excuse they are in fact are and whether used by the club or the media on their behalf they exist case in point Last couple of weeks I've heard how Jolly, Sandilands, Porplyzia, Jonathan Brown, Kruezer, Watson, Dempsey, Winderlich etc. etc. have adversely affected their team why is it that the likes of Davey '08' B&F, Jamar A/A, Garland and Grimes don't rate as highly as key components to our side. None have been mentioned in context of our performance. Don't underestimate how important Jamar was to us last year. It's not coincidence that he and Moloney lead clearances last year. Jamar single-handedly ended Fraser's career at the Pies You can call it being a sook but they are integral to our side and if you remove four of the best 10 players in any team performance will invariably take a hit. The disparity in performance is due to the youth and inexperience in our side. When we come to play we go great, when we're off we're like cold water. Nicholson(rookie), Evans(rookie), Gawn, Howe, Strauss All under 5 games experience. I really cant see how or why we are expected to have improved remarkably from last year and as yet nothing overwhelmingly says we gone backwards I reckon we're on par with last year. Mid season we have earned a rating of stagnated. I will concede consistency of effort or 'having a go' has been disappointing but the ladder never lies and don't let media spin fool you. Teams considered having a 'dip' and along the same development lines as us like Richmond and North are below us. sorry for the long post.

Didn't see him get dragged thought he lined up on the wing after the ball came back for the centre bounce. Absolutely deserved to be dragged for that. Overall he had a decent game amongst pretty poor performing side. But needs to show some concern for his team mates.

Bump Question 1. Is Cale Morton afraid of body contact? I saw a brief highlight at the ground of Leigh Brown going for a speccy over Macdonald in the final quarter Morton had the option of putting on physical pressure on Brown to at least keep him on the ground instead let Brown run right past him. Brown nearly could of killed Macdonald Taking that Mark over him. I know the game was done and dusted but it was very disappointing Conversely I see Reid down the other end put his body on the line in a marking duel with Trengove and his side is 12 goals up. The problem is 2 fold. Unwillingness to work for your mates and protect them. Not being switched on and committed to team ethos.

Oh ok my fault your arguing the middle ground, how could I be so silly not to realise. You offered Pav as example clearly he negotiates before end of season. You say it's strategy - all it does is effect the amount of scrutiny on himself and his team see Geelong I don't think that member speculation is at fault here I reckon when those in the game say he's gone and especially a former great of the club in Schwartz says he's gone and he's convinced the circumstantial evidence reaches critical mass and can't be ignored. 98% gone is what he said - Schwartz wouldn't so dramatically increase speculation unless he was sure. Now I'm not some sort of Sav who floggs themselves senseless whenever they get a sniff of something going wrong at MFC But Schwartz being convinced of his departure is enough on balance to make me believe he's gone. If he stays I'll retract it all. I'll be glad to wrong I'm not saying he's a bad bloke or that he's lied Just think at some the potential deal at GWS has been too good
-
Neither have been under the sustained scrutiny that Scully is under at the moment. as to Pavlich according to following article he began negotiating Late July early August dated:By Nathan Schmook 4:13 PM Wed 08 Sep, 2010 After only a few weeks of smooth negotiations between Fremantle and player manager Dan Richardson, Pavlich signed a four-year contract extension on Wednesday morning that will tie him to the club until the end of the 2014 season. http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/102257/default.aspx I don't think Sylvia is gone he needs to show his value because on balance he's shown poor consistency and this affects his value. Has got a substantial injury history also. This is also his first season so far where he looks close to playing every game for a year. To get the best deal for himself he needs to show he can consistently put a season together in terms of injury and effectiveness.
-
Not afraid of the dark But afraid of those who rationalise the irrational Why would you call off all negotiations other than the fact that you had been in poor form and wanted to prove your value? Look at Martin and Richmond last year as soon as the wisper started last year bang re-signed with his club I will be one the happiest people going around if he stays and this is all wrong. I'll be over the moon that's how good I reckon he is. He has the potential to be in the Ablett & Judd status. I don't think he's lied and signed a HoA I reckon he's just decided he's off cause the deals too good. Scully knows he's a gem runner up in NAB rising star. Played 21 games last year he's a jet. Speculation hurts his reputation (whether right or wrong) and shifts focus away from where it should be on his footy. It also affects his team mates putting pressure on them having to answer will he stay will he go? Why would Scully and his management like about that situation?

Where will these guys play next year?
Diablo Deemon replied to Dee-licious's topic in Melbourne Demons
We might have some trade currency end of the year. Bate, Maric, Dunn and Warnock could all be possible trades. Warnock to Hawthorn or possibly Carlton reckon they'd both love a KPD. Definite 2nd rounder and maybe able to hold out and get a first round Maric depends on Wonaeamirri getting back to regular footy. If we don't see Wona for the rest of the year expect to retain Maric as insurance. Reckon Essendon or Sydney would be interested. Bate Richmond, GWS, Bulldogs all candidates really seems on the outer at the moment. Dunn along the same lines as Bate suspension was really silly and may struggle to get back into the side. -
Or He's just calling it as he sees it and enough reputable people have told him he's gone. You can bury your beneath the sand for only so long. Eventually inaction (on Scully's and his Management) becomes too obvious. There are no REAL reasons why he wouldn't begin negotiation in some form other than the reason being because he's already gone.
-
Best case scenario end of first round. We will probably get an end of 2nd round. We deserve like for like. It's an indictment on the AFL that struggling clubs talent can be plundered. The clubs which have had sustained success should of been the ones to offer up talent to the expanding sides. The AFL have ripped the heart out of the game. This is the end of loyalty in AFL welcome to the NRL, EPL where player will be known to be leaving mid season.
-
Look I love Tom think he'll be a superstar and I think he is a true professional. On the speculation alone, Tom and his management would recognise how it damages his brand and affects the team. In the same way the speculation increased and affected Ablett and Geelong going to GCS. The new EBA being a road block in contract negotiations is silly any contract lawyer worth his salt would include clauses regarding future earnings and changes to EBA in a new contract for Tom. Tom has no reason not to start negotiating with the club other than he the fact he doesn't see his future being at MFC. Tom isn't a liar he probably hasn't signed anything with GWS but I think he's done an Ablett and decided he's better off at GWS.

Schwartz doesn't have much connection to the machinations of the club at the moment. Never the less his statement has me very concerned. I have kept the faith but the ship has turned. I think he's gone I'm devastated We must retire 31 after this

Should Queen's Birthday Be a Night Game
Diablo Deemon replied to Diablo Deemon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah that's the thing for a supposed blockbuster game that we have had for 10 years now we only average 64k. Performance has a lot to do with it sure. But for your one guaranteed marquee game that's pretty close to failure. Last time MFC had a H/A attendance above 80k Collingwood 08-May-1971 80231. That's 40 years this year. There are plenty of reason that have caused this and of course a small supporter base is the biggest factor. I think the argument just cause it's always been is should always be is redundant if it doesn't reflect success. Economics of football attendance is as important as the emotionality connected to traditionalism. Last year we ranked 15th in highest H/A MCG attendance. 2009 before 17th 2008 15th You have to go back to 2007 before we ranked in top 10 at 5. Richmond has attracted on average 70K opening round and that's not a public holiday. Yes they have more supporters but they have had a similar sought of trough in performance. It's a night game. The point to the stats: Our membership has gone up, Attendance across the AFL has gone up, our average attendance to games has gone up Our pulling power or 'ranking' attendance to Queen's Birthday has nose dived. How is it fixed? How does the club maximise revenue? -
6 to 13th place I have us finishing. So far we have seen that anyone can literally beat anyone on their day. Except maybe the top 2 or 3 teams. Sydney in a home final would be a cracker, draw this year big win last year. Don't think it will happen but you can dream. Next 4 weeks is telling Pies, Freo, Tiges, Dogs. Need to win 3 out of next 4 to contend for finals.
-
Applaud the cause but it looks like vomit, absolutely hideous. 32k against Freo good crowd.
-
I think that sniper Campbell Brown really rattled his cage last year. Seems when he told him he was the worst player on the field by a mile he took it to heart and lost a lot of confidence. Confidence can be a massive difference for developing players. Just really good to see that he has put hard work in and earned an opportunity to be recalled.
-
2 weeks reduced to 1 surely. Anyone else think there is irony in the fact Thomas smacks Jones in the face he has to go off and Malthouse doesn't apologise for his team cheating. Or what about the Krakouer goal which he claimed off a St Kilda mark nice little can of worms Mick has opened.

For all the sack Bailey supporters here is some facts for you I made in another thread. Friday night we had 1160 games experience at an average of 52.73 games experience. Gold Coast on Saturday had 1309 games experience at an average 59.5 games experience. We have been decimated by injury and suspension last week against Carlton At 637 games experience or an average of 58 games experience. We played Essendon with even less experience this week. Again I don't know if Bailey is the one to take us to a flag but I can't stand by and listen to ill informed, baseless and reactionary guff like 'the coach must go' 'blame the coach' nonsense. We are not Richmond and we are not Essendon supporters we don't eat our own. While the coach and team cant use injury and suspension as an excuse surely an educated supporter can see the impact it can have. Couple more posters around here are yet to pop their heads up and admit they got carried away on the sack Bailey Bandwagon. More apologising needed waiting.....

Jordie is massively impressive the way he goes about it he could be our Lenny Hayes. Not necessarily the most skilled but commitment is undeniable. I look at Mckenzie, Gysberts, Skully, Trengove, Tapscott and if Strauss and Blease can get it together that's scary good in 3-4 years. Friday night we had 1160 games experience at an average of 52.73 games experience. Gold Coast on Saturday had 1309 games experience at an average 59.5 games experience. That's how impressive we were.

The traditional 2.10pm slot is no longer the prime time for footy. Seeing as though we have this regular blockbuster game is it time to change it to a Prime Time Slot a 7.40pm start would be ideal. Consider the benefits to the club and sponsors. Increased television audience and exposure Research shows against the gate coverage doesn't affect attendance as previously thought Have lacked a lot of night footy in recent years this would give us a guaranteed game every year. Everyone wants to play night time footy. I reckon it's about time.

A complete spud who likes the cut of his own jib. Doesn't rate a nat's nut sack on my radar. Complete Eddy sycophant on MMM cant listen to that crap in the mornings. For a professional national code there is a complete dearth of quality. For me they go on about goal kicking being the only skill not to improve in AFL. Wrong Commentary is become less insightful every week. Cant name one off the top of my head who I rate. Channel 10 - Half the commentary is too old and are out of touch see Walls and Blight it's like listening to an old folks home Tim Lane is a complete [censored]. Christenson how does he even have a job, Hutchinson wears nappies what a joke. Quartertit has no idea either Channel 7 - Bruce and Commetti reckon they have this clever inside joke thing going. Well guys you don't you look like fools I'm sorry but getting a current day player to commentate is stupid rarely do they give anything that's insightful They just agree all the time. Don't have foxtel so cant comment on those guys.
