Oh regale us with your insights if only to make me chuckle Stated he can't put on weight - he has 9 kgs since draft PCL - He had 10 weeks off, it impacted 2010, you miss half a season it has to. Broken Finger impacted his preseason what ever you think he couldn't do any ball handling. 40 games out of 44 in 2 seasons he was considered elite within his draft group. I ask for at least another 12 months to judge where he's at. Your willing to throw him on the dung heap. Your acceptance to disregard the 4th draft pick in the 2007 draft is stuporous.

He isn't up to it He is another Valenti only a higher draft pick Let him go win a Liston

Your not Paul McNamee by any chance? Wasn't it his great white hope, the absolute fillet to bring in a big name player in exactly the same way you describe. See how far that got him with Jonathon Brown Too bad the salary cap pressure it would have bought to the club turned that theory into a absolute white elephant. I reckon there's plenty of 'hype' 'morale' and 'goodness' with all the recent draftees. There are superstars amongst our list they need one thing TIME. Lack of on field leadership - has been an issue for 10 years quite simply we lacked the quality for any sustained success we took a broom to our list and rebuilt our club from ground - Why start again? Send Barry Prendergast an email and ask him why we don't have any quality kickers he'll tell you since 2007 that been a major criteria of our recruiting. Do you know more than Barry? Are you within the inner sanctum? Can you unbiasedly access player development? Kick ins - it is the plan if there isn't a free player kick long down the line halve the contest set up for a ball in this is the case of the majority of teams. We smashed Adelaide with our press that was the best display of our press. Our effort against Richmond for total team defence was also a better display then the Essendon game - we set a club record for tackles The reason there is such a glaring disparity? we don't set up a tight enough zone why not? Inexperience. Again I got back to this chestnut On average this year we have less games experience than gold coast On average we have been younger side than gold coast. We try to inact a press we're not consistent enough in application there are often holes. These are facts. You say cloud 9. I refuse to be sucked in by media, opposition and MFCSS which this thread is entirely corrupted by. If you cant discuss football without the removal of emotion if you cant see where we are at in our development there's no point continuing to discuss it cause MFCSS sufferers just won't get it. What I am in favour of is identifying the media/supporter driven expectation of where we are at and critically and factually assessing what the reality is. I mean it is insane to believe that after 2010 we have all the pieces in place to perform consistently. It's also insane how people's expectation has clouded the reality of where we are at. less games on average than gold coast, less years experience than gold coast consistently throughout the year. Now go on and pass it off as if this means nothing....

In the interest of semantics I'll play this game but I don't know why i have to point out the obvious. Junior development/career means EVERYTHING it's the difference between making it to the AFL or not! You state the question isn't about potential or ability. So you are saying there's progress to be made. So to answer your obtuse questions and get 4 'yes' that make it or brake it for Cale A) He has had ONE bad year over 2 seasons which were impacted by injury - that is fact not speculation. So yes it's been a bad year and he has runs on the he deserves patience B Trading him at his lowest point we wont get adequate value - So yes trading him hurts C Morton is an outside player always will be. Can you teach team defence - Yes Can you teach tackling technique - Yes. Can you teach hunger for contest - No that's up to Cale D) He's an MFC player he's one of us so until that changes he wants to be with us - An absolutely absurd question. How can profess or assert he wants to go you have no idea. E) Will he put weight on? was recruited at 78kg current playing weight is 87kg so yes he's put weight on After wasting my time with this absurd criterion it further reiterates my points all this is knee-jerk. Morton: Has runs on the board Won best first year player in our worse year ever 2008 Was a highlight in the darkest/worst period of our history 2008/2009 - I actually went to games to see him play He's pure outside player that wont change He can add to team balance - quality outside players are essential He has been injury hampered in last 2 years - PCL was his first major injury and he hasn't recovered He has put 9kgs on since being drafted There is absolutely zero fact checking in this thread before opinions are being made. He deserves at least 12 months to get back into form.

Mr Consistency ---The Forgotten Man
Diablo Deemon replied to jayceebee31's topic in Melbourne Demons
Part of the 3 horse race for Best and fairest this year I have Moloney slightly ahead of Jones and Sylvia just behind Jones -
Contrary to your disbelief I think the PCL he did last year and a broken finger this year has in fact hindered his progress but more importantly his confidence is shot. His value right now is negligible compared to what it will be in 12 months. I'm still willing to give a guy who got a mid 15 beep test, won the Larke medal, won best first year player, 2008 nominee for rising star, is the 4th selection overall in 2007 draft, and put 40 games together out of 44 in his first 2 seasons another 12 months. But then again I've obviously based my opinion on a knee-jerk reaction because I'm mad and hysterical....

Give him a full pre season with the fitness base and get some touch and confidence then we reassess end of next year see where he is at then. If he continues to struggle then we trade.
-
Must Keep he is a premiership ingredient undoubtedly His linkage work in the Port game was amazing he was a key difference in us winning that game. He has had his best year and ranks top 3 best players this year I have Maloney just ahead and Jones just behind Sylvia.

Key Match Ups in this order Mitchell - This is the crucial match up he has been scintillating this year gets the best stopper we got McKenzie Franklin - Garland if deep, Frawley if floating up around half forward Rioli - Jones needs a big job and the coach has got to eyeball Jonesy and say it's up to you. Wear him like a glove Hodge - Let Morton follow him around and play a tagging role best way to play him is make him accountable offensively if he can runoff he kills you Burgoyne - Cleaned us up last with 4 goals needs a defensive forward if playing back look to Petterd forward Strauss or Tapscott Suckling - Most efficient kick in the comp I'd bring in Jetta just to follow him around and lay a tackle as soon as he goes near it Match Day Address/Key tactics Have to have to have to be accountable to a man. Hawthorn is playing this lead up short pass game or we have to be maintain a strict zone or they will pick their way through our defence. Total team defence, tackles have to stick Less handball saw passages of it again in Darwin please handball less, kick the bloody ball, run and overlap is exciting until the ball is butchered in the middle of the ground. Lower you eyes when entering 50. If they play a loose man in defence man him up. Forward pressure is essential. Martin and Jamar have to murder Bailey and Hale

This thread is failing to contribute anything to the site except Speculation on speculation. There are very few known facts being talked about A lot is innuendo and casual observation. While I think TS is gone repeating That over and over doesn't make it more true. There is little left to add to the debate Unless there is an actual announcement I think we all understand where the situation is at and that this thread should be locked till there is some factual points to be discussed It seems insane that we are speculating or passing judgement when we have no Involvement in ongoing negotiations or are privy to the inner sanctum. Mods lock it down reopen it when there is actual news. so that we don't All suffer with anxiety disorders.

handballs too much.

If it landed Kennedy absolutely If it landed Reid maybe
-
Quoted for truth Every game since that one has been irrelevant Premierships are all that matters
-
Fev v Frankston hardly much of a team to warrant drafting Fev Fev kicking 11 against Port, Willy, Nth Ballarat then I might take notice Josh Kennedy for Morton and Bate Sam Reid for Morton and Bate Taylor Walker/Tippett for Morton or Bate John Butcher for round 3 draft pick. or we can just be patient and grow our own

Definitely that 2nd half against hawthorn was insipid. Also the queens birthday game. Being outed by Mitch Robinson as being soft. Tom Scully saga Somehow Playing teams into form.
-
I think the only reliable fact from KB is that he wasn't looking where he was going and ran into someone at the soccer.

I just wish this was over I cant manufacture the will to continue being engaged with such conjecture about a single player. It really sucks when you support a club that's been as low as we have and everyone is telling you your going to be hamstrung just as it looks like your getting some momentum. GWS are pathetic, AFL is pathetic go get Geelong, Hawthorn, Collingwood, St Kilda, Bulldog players at least they have repaid their clubs faith. This whole sage is the most nauseating event since the 2nd quarter on the 2nd September 2000 at least that train wreck lasted 2.5hrs This train wreck has been going for 4 months. GWS just wait for your young talent coming out of contract with go home sentiment. I hope we pillage clubs when free agency arrives Can't handle the insecurity/helplessness/disempowerment I want to believe that good players will want to stay at my club because any other choice would be stupid. That we are the place to be. I think his gone, If he stays I'll be the first to appologise I think it's easier for my psyche to believe he'll go the fall wont be as far if it happens.

Fair enough cheap shots are just that. Back to discussion. I don't know what to make of it all but here are the points from the interview 1. Schwartz was crying plan B for the members/supporters and he frequently said 'if' Scully goes we need a plan B. 2. Schwab retorted that the compensation rules are the rules. 3. Ox believed that the rules for compensation were changed by heavy lobbying from Geelong because of Ablett. 4. Schwab retorted that the rules were made while he was on the committee and a gap was identified where a marquee player (top 5 in competition) wouldn't be adequately compensated. That Ablett going and rule change were not done in response to speculation he may go to GC. 5. Laidley stated that MFC would be hoping to sell other things than just remuneration. Schwab categorically agreed and stated this had been a key reason/purpose/foundation of the club rebuild. 6. Ox and Schwab in interplay, interjections and the Ox general inference that Schwab/club was somehow being negligent in not seeking something more from the AFL Executive was extremely uncomfortable. 7. Schwab was at pains to suggest that over the course of a 15 year career if T. Scully was the marquee player they expect he will be that it was no real difference in his total player earnings he'd receive elsewhere with GWS able to pay more upfront but having to fall into line with rest of the clubs. 8. Schwab again restated the faith he has in T. Scully's character and that speculation that he has done anything other than what he said he would was unfair and was assassinating his good character. He mentioned that a lot of his character traits or profiling were the reason he was so highly touted and selected at 1. 9. After the break without right of reply Ox continues to espouse that Brian Cook had lobbied heavily for compensation change. Marko and Laidley both agreed that Schwab performed admirably. But that it was his job to sell hope and belief to supporters as was his job and basically he wouldn't be able to state he had a plan B because it would admit Scully was already gone. Actually just listen to the bloody podcast:- http://www.sen.com.au/AUDIO
