  1. Pick 7 for Howe is just too much. Any chance our pick 43 could be chucked in? Not the world's biggest sweetener though. Getting 6+7 in hand would be convenient, better than 3+16 if Howe went to GC instead
  2. not having a go Chook but how in God's name can you put that out there so confidently?
  3. I used to love a good old whinge but I've finally come to the realisation that it is absolutely pointless. Nobody knows if Goodwin et al will turn Melksham into a good player, and nobody knows who we might have picked at 24 and whether that kid would have ever turned out to be any good. When Scully, Clarke and FRawley ditched us all those seemed like bad days at the trade table but none of them ultimately ended up hurting us in the long run. Nobody was doing cartwheels when we landed Bernie Vince but he ended up being one of the best recruits in ages. That was this footy department's call, as it was to engineer deals to get Hogan, Tyson and Salem to the club.
  4. oh yeah great take a bloke that has been injured and another that has retired but served us brilliantly and call them fails then list some blokes we got for nothing
  5. like most, I'm not able to get very enthused about this. What I do know though is that Roos and Co have generally knocked it out of the ball park with their trading and drafting the past 2 seasons, so I feel comfortable backing the play they have made here.
  6. wonder if we can get pick 21 + a swap of pick 3 for pick 6 from GC for Howe
  7. who knows what's going on really, but I stand by my comment: that IF our losing Howe is worth only an upgrade from 6 to 3 we should not be celebrating.
  8. They've defied the paradigm, we have been unable to as yet. It doesn't change what the OP has said, which is that there is clearly a disadvantageous set of conditions that is developing. For us in particular it is a huge worry, I can't believe you are even contesting the idea. You can see it as plain as day.
  9. well obviously our ability to win games is compromised by the fact the bigger clubs take all the talent and field better sides each week
  10. 2 years ago we swapped pick 2 for Tyson and Pick 9 (Salem) This was presumably on the belief that a handful of places in the draft is worth less a whole other player Wouldn't Howe+Pick6 be the opposite of this strategy?
  11. Doesn't make sense. He's left about $3MIL on the table for the 'privilege' of being able to play in the absolute hole that is the City of Geelong. Is the ghost of Dick Pratt working at the cattery now or what
  12. not usually but we're Melbourne
  13. Oh really can you show me the evidence that anybody at all was after his signature with his out of contract status please. Anything at all. Thanks.
  14. Seriously, I am not just being a pr1ck for the sake of it (I'm a pr1ck generally speaking, but on this occasion not just for the sake of it). Can you answer me this? Of what REAL value is a player with the attributes you have described above? You are saying, basically, that he is a good bloke. I am saying that the contribution of his on-field performances is less than OUR best 22. Extend that to the top 4 and you are nowhere near. Add three years of age and you are having a laugh. This is one of those arguments that cannot be resolved but I would argue that a player's positive contribution to club culture (read: 'good blokeism') is far, far, far less important than what that player contributes on the field. If the opposite were true, the MFC would have ME on their list, cos despite the fact I am a horrible footballer, I truly am a fantastic bloke and therefore deserve a 3 year contract for what I bring to the table as a bloke. My opponent would kick 30 but I would have some choice words in the changerooms don't worry about that. How is the rest of the list somehow bolstered by the fact that Garland is supposedly some great clubman? Not that I have seen a SCINTILLA of evidence to suggest that he actually IS, by the way. I see a very ordinary footballer with the demeanor of someone waiting a bus stop, who has been instrumental in leaking goals that have led to massive beltings over the last 10 years. With every 50 points we lose by his seeming ability to 'give a rat's' does not change. You know how it has been discussed that our horrific recent past has left 'scars' and 'damage' on our players? THIS is the guy. This is him. You can see it on his face the way he is about to cry when he gets the ball, and refuses to do anything positive or creative with it. The amount of times per season where I have said 'great work Garlo' is less than the amount of times you are able to watch a full eclipse of the moon. If he is so positive for 'culture' can you please weigh that up for me against the negatives associated with his direct opponent, whoever that may be, having a goal bonanza on any given (probably) Sunday, and us losing yet another football match? Now before you label me the FWit that I am, please read my post carefully and tell me which part of it is inaccurate. Thank you.
  15. ooooh got me ouch pack of sycophantic lightweights around here I for one want to see the club move somewhere towards fielding 22 AFL quality footballers and decisions like this get in the way of that but you enjoy your little press piece - hopefully, if only for a moment, it takes your mind off the fact we haven't played finals for 9 years go ahead and ask a Hawthorn supporter about it, they probably have no idea who Garland even is
  16. it's all well and good to say you love the club and blahblahblah but it could be a case of nobody came a-knocking
  17. huh? My hindsight is crystal clear, he was awful
  18. gee great the 'goals against' statistic will remain high for another 3 years
  19. I agree with you and PaulRB, this is exactly the type of shenanigans Roos would get up to Jesse could you be a dear and stick your head out to the press and imply your are staying at the Dees please, it would help us out a lot and it will too
  20. Yeah but I am pretty sure that what was rumoured at the time was true - that we had something big cooking but it all fell apart when Trengove failed that medical. Remeber we had a spare pick 3 also This time we have pick 6, Howe, Toumpas and god knows who else they might sacrifice for the greater good I am not writing off Roosy just yet
