  1. I guess what I mean is that 'your midfield' refers to a group of 5-10 players (depending on genuine depth) as a collective that make a premiership side. That means any one of them, or the loss of any one of them, is of much less vale than a player like a Hogan. Ps you forgot Cam Mooney. FMD.
  2. god i pray this is a joke
  3. this is the no.1 asset in the comp, could be the difference between winning a flag or not wining one. there are plenty of bits of worrying info. heaps of current elite players have already set the precedent that loyalty no longer exists how anyone can think that this is a 'pointless' discussion is beyond me. It is hard to imagine a more important one in fact.
  4. this is true, provided we do actually receive that 'remarkable' thing in return I actually don't think 2 x picks in the top 5 would do it for me although if it's Oliver + Petracca you can live with it, maybe again I'll say though Hogan is a much rarer commodity than even the greatest midfielders
  5. what part of it couldnt you get through
  6. as many as the scully thread yeah that was a lot of talk about nothing in the end oh wait
  7. how can you call it a 'conspiracy theory' in light of Scully, Judd, Ablett, Franklin and Dangerfield ALL doing the dirty on their clubs after 'contract talks were put on hold' it is actually the norm now for players to just ship out whenever they feel like it, for their own selfish reasons, usually financial conspiracy theory fmd
  8. This is why the phrase 'family reasons' exists A total copout to hide the truth that everyone knows anyway Then you have brown paper bags which everyone pretends don't exist either The whole thing is farce
  9. what nobody is talking about is the paper bag factor - everyone seems to think that money isn't part of the equation, on the assumption he will get as much with us as he will elsewhere. Well plenty of players have made a mockery of that idea through salary cap dodges, most famously by Chris Judd, who went to Carlton on the back of some blatently obvious misconduct that the AFL completely allowed to happen. Freo (or any of 16 other clubs who would all love to have him) could hatch any number of schemes to make it work, as the salary cap is a mirage
  10. yeah but we haven't really needed him against these also-ran sides... his real value is that he could kick 6 in a final against the Hawks in 2018 and get us home that's what's at stake, the ability to be true contenders
  11. language, please
  12. Having Hogan or not having him could easy be the difference between making a prelim and winning the flag As good as Clarry, Viney, Tyson, Tracc and Brayshaw look like being in the middle, Jesse is something else, he cannot be compensated for, and it has been way too long since we have had one like him. Lose any of those midfielders and we can move on easily, its not the case for Jesse. Gawn is almost as important BTW. like I said the other day, he's not even in good form at the mo, and the other day he bagged 7 goals in his 26th game, in a losing side and he did it easily. He will be unstoppable in 3 years time with all the carp we've put up with already, this one will sting
  13. Question... Roos said: 'if you pay over the odds for one player, as this club's done before, when we're under pressure, then it becomes hard to assemble a good list'.. who do we reckon he is talking about? It has been a while since anyone has had a truly huge contract isn't it? Mitch Clark?
  14. would be an unmitigated disaster no matter what compo we got out of it would be the last straw for another chunk of our vanishing supporter base for starters
  15. you provided a synopsis of the news report, which I have now just seen. Nobody said anything about 'team success' being 'what the contract is about' FWIW I feel better after seeing that clip. I don't feel like he's lying but then again who knows
  16. WHO said that it's about team success?
  17. interesting perspective one thing that gives me hope is the fact Viney signed up big yesterday. Maybe provided a bit of inspiration?
  18. Some questions for you to ponder: what if he plays a shocker this week because he is not properly prepared and it costs us the game? With all the effort that goes into conditioning the players... do you think that is good practice for the club to be engaged with? Bowing down to the needs of an individual at the expense of the side? Does that sound like typical Roos behaviour? Is it good culture to have star players calling the shots or should they be subservient to the bigger system? Like I said from the start, there is something unusual going on here, which is not good, simple as that.
  19. Assuming he is fit to play this weekend, it is hard to believe they would allow him to fly around so much and interfere with his preparation. That suggests that an exception is being made for him, which in itself is not good.
  20. it's obviously not the same thing though is it. Nobody is concerned Oliver will leave us for Mooroopna FC. So it's not even a thing worth saying is it.
  21. yeah yeah relax i will be bumping this one when the day comes and you can apologise then
  22. so I'm supposed to cop this am I moderators
  23. ok sorry for saying 1. I forgot the level of pedantry that goes on around here and the inability to detect hyperbole I'll go with DA's huge quantity of 4 out of several hundred - and obviously it doesn't matter for the majority of others where there is no question of some go home factor. I mean seriously, comparing Oliver to Hogan? What he's a chance of returning to his town of population 1000 to play on the ball there is he? You know DAMN WELL there is a REASON it makes the news when Hogan does it because for most others it is not an issue, so stop playing dumb, as natural as it may come to you " Even Roos mentioned it " oh you should have said that in the first place, now I'm convinced. FMD. the problem is deep down you know what's going to happen and you're finding it very painful to deal with. Don't take it out on me
  24. yeah well you are familiar with the concept of hyperbole I reckon. Answer the question, is it commonplace or unusual. Is it nothing or something.
  25. 4 players off the top of your head, well i said there were hundreds to choose from. So youve gone and proven my point. See the post above, it is nowhere near commonplace and you damn well know it
