Farewell Brodie Grundy
He does seem like a reasonable fella. He couldâve joined the party and got stuck in but declined. Good post!

Farewell Brodie Grundy
I think the mutual talks to leave were earlier than we think. My mail is that he was the only player on the entire list who didnât attend a 200th game party for the skipper. A time that lines up with him getting dropped I think. I also heard he bailed on a club event around the same time but that source is not so good⌠Maybe a coincidence. Personally I wouldâve rolled the dice and selected him for the Carlton game. It was clear our forward line was dysfunctional but we needed targets who could at least bring the ball to ground effectively.

The Pick 1 Thread
Pretty sure I mentioned that. Just saying that WC were telling clubs thatâs what they wanted.

Welcome to Demonland Kynan Brown
If he doesnât make it, it wonât be for lack of trying nor will it have anything to do with supporter sentiment. Heâs a goer and would be an extremely popular father-son pick. I hope he makes it. His old man used to do my head in a bit as a player but is one of the nicest blokes youâll ever meet.

The Pick 1 Thread
I should mention, I donât blame North for not wanting to give up 2+3. Theyâd want something pretty good back. Like Geelongs future 1st and WC future 2nd etcâŚ

The Pick 1 Thread
Very good source told me WC are trying to turn pick 1 into 3 top 10 picks. Also told me that the stories about WC are wanting the WA tall are a tad embellished. The stumbling block is North Melbourne. they want Pick 1 and to keep 2 or 3 so they get either the better Tassie mid or Duursma. My guess is that it could look something like belowâŚ. Which is 3 inside top 11. There would be some additional bits and pieces thrown in to balance it out. WC 3, 8 + 11 North 1 MFC 2 Geelong 6 Personally if that were to eventuate or something similar I would be ok with it.

Nate Caddy
I watched a lot of TAC Cup and state footy in 2014-15 with a friend who was working for a Melbourne based club as a talent scout. Any comparisons between Caddy and Charlie Curnow are way off. Caddy doesnât have the explosiveness nor the ability below the feet like Curnow did back then. I thought Curnow was Kouta II. I also thought Harry McKay was a future all-Australian CHB and that Weitering was overrated. Anyway⌠Not to say we shouldnât draft Caddy, rather the Curnow comp is not a good one in my eyes.

The Pick 1 Thread
Curious to hear that people consider Jefferson as a future key forward. I donât think heâs viewed that way internally. Whenever I see him I see him as a classic 3rd tall who can mark and create something out of nothing. Similar to a young Cam Bruce without the running capacity. In any case, Essendon really rate Caddy as does StKilda. Not sure about us but if he draws the footy and can knock a few blokes over as a forward, we should consider him at 6. Seems to have a bit of x-factor too which I like in tall forwards.

Farewell James Jordon
Quality person. His effort and commitment was never in question. I hope he goes on to play plenty of senior footy at the Swans.

Welcome to Demonland Kynan Brown
The below sounds a bit nebulous but thought Iâd share anywayâŚ. I asked a mate who is a part time scout for an interstate club if heâd seen Kynan play. He has. âShredded, slightly undersized inside mid who goes unnoticed for periods in a game due to his work at the contestâ Reckons heâs got some elite traits that will translate to AFL. Ball winning, mental toughness and vision but also thinks he should play half forward as he could be elite in that role. Pressure, tackling, vision and hard running. He thought Kynan wouldnât be a pure mid in the AFL and is not a 1st round talent at this stage. (For context thereâs 10ish players he feels are definite 1st round locks with 20-30 players including Kynan to follow) He also had no idea where the club he reports to rated him but they consider it a lock that weâll take him in the 25-40 range which he thinks would be pretty good value from what heâs seen. on a separate note, is Trav Johnstoneâs kid still playing? I remember seeing a pic of him at the David Neitz Academy.

Robbo's Top 50 - 2023 Pre Season
And neutral fans of the game seem to dislike his style of play/general attitude. Not sure why. Heâs the best player in the comp. All you need to ask yourself is, would you trade him for anyone else in that top10?

TRAINING: Wednesday 18th January 2023
I went along today too with a mate who used to work with a couple of AFL footy departments. He was useful to stand next to ⌠The emphasis was on quicker movement but we will still play wide. I overheard one of the coaches telling a player to âkeep it tight on the attacking sideâ. I think the coaching was directed at Burgoyne as he had held the ball a bit too long moments earlier. Of the younger players, I found Woewodin, JvR, Disco and McPhee the most interesting. Woewodin maybe lacks x-factor but moves well and runs without a second thought for the betterment of the team. I can see him playing 100 games of senior footy if he continues to develop. JvR attacks the ball, the body and the man. Our forward half pressure will lift with him playing. Disco is smart and a neat kick. Size might be his problem in the long run but he looks good in sims. McPhee is a better athlete than I thought. Worked hard and handled the ball well in slippery conditions. Heâs behind a lot of good players for a senior spot but he looks better than I remember. Of the next group Rivers, Bowey, Sparrow and Kozzie all look really strong, composed and sharp for mid Jan. Kozzie was the most influential player during the sims in my eyes. Left or right foot his skills were excellent. Defensively roams with a certain amount of menace much like his uncle. Sparrow is just so strong. He can absorb a fair bit of contact and dispose neatly. Special mention to Chandler. He was within the top 3-4 on the field. Covered ground well, tackled hard and hit targets. His intensity was very high in the drills and sim. Some other bits of info I gleaned:- Grundy is 6 weeks behind in his running but will be good for Rd 1. Brown is being managed but theyâre not worried. Jefferson has impressed the coaches with his application and has a bit of flair to his game. I must admit, watching him today, I didnât see the flair. He is a lovely kick though. Expect to see 30-35 players play in the preseason. Club thinks our depth is now a strength.

Clayton Oliver now 2022 Brownlow favourite?
Slightly off topic but I was watching Pies Vs Blues yesterday with a rabid Carlton supporting mate when he started to rabbit on about how Clarrie is good but Cripps is a footballing god. So I watched Cripps closely, particularly the 2nd half. He was immense but Iâve never seen a bloke stuff up so much by taking the entire Collingwood midfield on by himself. Especially late. He basically tried to stomp on anybody trying to stop him. Admirable but ineffective. I had a bit of a chuckle and told my mate, Clarrie mayâve gone down a similar path of not for a small intervention and some brilliant development. Hence, Clarrie is #1 and Cripps is somewhere in the top 10-15. Probably wonât win the Brownlow for reasons repeated in this thread already BUT Clarrie is the Death Star without a built in critical, exploitable weakness. I hope he receives Norm Smiths and Premiership medallions like I do junk mail requesting bank details and a $5k deposit.

Dermottâs 2022 flag prediction
Iâve met him heaps of times. Top bloke actually. He doesnât rate Melbourne as a club, never has. I think that bias comes through loud and clear in these sort of pieces. He would rather invent a reason to put us down than look at the facts. Itâs ok, heâs a known known. Doesnât like us. Move on.

Tom McDonald Re-Signs Until 2024
Iâm not sure anyone could argue that he went from All Australian squad level play early in 21, to borderline holding his spot by the end of the year. But he does take a good defender away from Fritsch and his workrate is always elite. Looking forward to Weideman putting some pressure on him next year with a genuine 2nd tier competition in full effect.

2021 Player Reviews: #11 Max Gawn
Oliver is my favourite player and I think our best player but Max pulled one out of his backside and Petracca played an incredible game in a GF.

2021 Player Reviews: #11 Max Gawn
Maxâs PF performance and Petraccaâs GF performance are possibly the 2 greatest games Iâve seen from a MFC player. (Earliest memories are 85-86 seasons) Given the context theyâre hard to go past. Max is a supreme leader and calming influence on the group which, given his first 5 or so years, is an amazing leap and his greatest attribute. When he is clunking contested marks and pushing forward, we are hard to beat. đââď¸

2021 Player Reviews: #10 Angus Brayshaw
Heâs a good player. Plays his role as others have pointed out but he needs to value the footy more and work on those foot skills. People can point to his disposal % but when Gus misses, he misses big. Otherwise, heâs a great kid and important player.

The Day History was Made
Am I the only person who kept thinking of Eddie Murphy every time BT and Brayshaw call Naughtonâs name?
