  1. I’ll admit, I can get lippy at the footy when provoked. And I am really good at it. As such I’ve had run ins with: Adelaide: we played them on the Goldy. The people in front of me said that I clapped too loudly. Called me Vic Pric. So I leaned forward and clapped louder and started talking about how good Formula One is and how Victoria is the home of footy. They left. Carlton: 2000 QF. Carlton Cheer squad gave it to a group of us all day. We constantly gave it back but were way outnumbered. All in good fun until we were physically threatened by a group of 10 blokes. They ended up getting removed by the police after their own fans dobbed them in. Collingwood: Hit over the head with an umbrella by an elderly toothless (seriously) Collingwood supporter when I was 12. I was literally just sitting on my seat when she did it. Plenty of other stories about those muppets. Essendon: Windy Hill….. every time. Fremantle: The Wonna game. Trailing by 51 points but still cheering. Was told to be quiet by a couple of Freo Execs. ā€œKnow when you’re beaten mateā€ā€¦. They were so arrogant. That was a great day! West Coast: 2018 Prelim. Attended a club function at the ground so left pretty late. Was accosted by 4 WCE fans who were hammered outside the ground. Trying to pick a fight calling me all sorts of names. North Melbourne: We were getting belted by the Kangas but I didn’t give up cheering when we did something good. Was told I was ā€œdrunk and stupidā€. I corrected them and told them I was ā€œdrunk and handsomeā€. Started chanting Gold Coast whenever they kicked a goal. They left. Geelong: they were pretty good actually but the Hawkins breakout game was pretty bad. Constantly abused and told to go home. Had food thrown at us. At the end of the game a small amount of their supporters said that they wished the club all the best for supporters like me/us. I was at 187 and got a few pats on the back which was nice. I’m not a fighter and never started any of the above. But I don’t like being backed into a corner or have opposition supporters act in a aggressive or demanding way towards our club and supporters. And I don’t swear.
  2. If they’re not guilty it should only cost them half a mill and 2-3 first round picks. That’s how it works right?!

Can’t remember which quarter it was but definitely in the first half, when Langford had a chance to apply some tackling pressure around the F50. He missed a tackle only to see Sparrow fly through and perform the correct procedure. I’ve really enjoyed watching Sparrow as a forward. He’s big, strong, desperate and can kick for goal. Also, Chin. I just love him. He’s a self made man in the team. Done it the hard way and is now in the 1st dozen selected. To top it off, he’s the nicest human. He’s just a bloody legend. The forward pressure by some of our less known players has really spiked this year, particularly recently.
  4. Agreed. This is a complete non event for the key stakeholders.

At least we don’t support the 2 clubs playing tonight.

The umps were bad as was the Dogs goal kicking BUT how interesting from a Demons perspective that neither team could stop the other from scoring. It actually gave me hope that we could beat the Dogs if we can continue to improve ball movement and maintain some defensive structure.

Listening to Hawthorn supporters scream out ā€˜the Wiz’ is infuriating. There is only one Wiz!

I’ve had a few cracks at the predictor too and it seems like the difference between the top 8-9 clubs and the bottom 6-7 is pretty large. If that plays out to be true, we’ll need 13 wins to get in. Not sure we can get to that figure. If we make a run and just miss out, I’d expect Goody to see out his contract and coach in 26. I’m not convinced he’s the right person still, but I think Jaded mentioned that we could probably do a better job with surrounding him with more talented coaches and admin. That would allow him to play to his strengths in player management etc. That’s probably a good place to start.

I think he is considered a little bit position-less. Not quite a forward, not quite a back and only recently showing signs as a ruck. I see that as a blank canvas to work with. But one club that I know of thinks he will take a fair bit of time and has average hands. I’d be rapt to get him though. He can kick, elite athlete and apparently has a good head on his shoulders. His old man overcame what I would say, were not elite hands overhead, by jumping over blokes and taking chest marks. Kalani could do the same. We can also expose him to the work habits and expertise of the greatest ruckman of the last decade. There’s no downside here. Here, no downside.
  10. Haha… I’ll preface this with the fact that I work in tech and yet am a complete luddite when it comes to searching for threads and posts on a forum. I remember having an interesting back and forth with the effectiveness of JVR with @binman I enjoyed his perspective from a data analytics view point. I was curious to know if there is something tangible we can point to that he is clearly doing differently? A larger forward who can kick a few goals would be a nice cherry on the top and JVR is our only option.
  11. I think as a group of fans we tend to overrate our own a little. Until they can show something at senior level or a specific elite trait at the VFL level, players like Woewodin, Laurie, Jefferson, Howes, Adams, Verall, Sestan, Mentha, Brown, Henderson, Johnson, Kentfield, AMW and Culley have no trade value. That’s not to say they won’t make it as AFL players, it’s just that they are unproven. Spargo,Billings, Hore & Sharp also would limited appeal. If we are looking to trade out players with market value, we’d need to be prepared to say goodbye to a Premiership player like Fritsch and or one of our more fancied youngster’s like JVR. It’s not ideal but could be done if required.
  12. Not specific to Jackson but I love a bit of misinformation coming from our club aimed at other clubs. It’s about bloody time!

Bowey has got back to that (good) arrogant stage where he takes on kicks of all angles and nails them. He was good today. Again. Rivers was great. Only played 88 min of game time though. I assume there’s a reason for that?
  14. Haha. Maybe Jacko is a red herring. We are really after Brayshaw!!!

The old Coleman Kent. Must’ve circled our name on the fixture every year.

Wait until the article appears on the Melbourne website where they mention, ā€œTholstrup was given some specific things to work on back at Casey and we were happy with his game today.ā€

I don’t think you understand the concept. Selection integrity refers to selecting players who are in form and dropping them when they are not. By not selecting players when they deserve a chance to play (Laurie & Sestan for example) you are inhibiting their chances of success. Conversely, by selecting players who are out of form (JVR, Kolt & Oliver) and continuing to play them in the seniors, you see a decline in output and confidence. It also sends mixed message to fringe players. What do they need to do, to be selected? Now we have a situation where 60-70% if the list is playing below their normal standard and both teams are devoid of confidence. Lastly, on the list management, if Goody doesn’t like many of our players and won’t select them, why are they still on the list? Goody has a lot to answer for, with the current predicament we face.

I’ve met Dillon. He’s very smart and loves the game. Where I think he falls down is his lack of leadership. Gil and Andy D were strong, almost bully types, whereas Dillon is a softer more collaborative type. Maybe that’s not how the AFL exec’s are used to working? Less democratic and more autocratic? In any case, the hiring of Kane seems to be a very bad choice at this stage.

I’d take him. He’s pretty dynamic and damaging whilst clearly unsettled. Would look terrific in our jumper. In fact I’d rather end up with him than Jackson.

Agreed. The issue will be money. We have an unbalanced amount of our cap portioned out to May, Petracca, Viney, Lever, Brayshaw, Gawn, Oliver and Kozzy. That would be ok if we were top 4 with premiership credentials. It’s not ok when we are slowly drifting off the back of the peloton. The rubber band has snapped!! May is a general down back but athletically challenged. Trac is a very good player but no longer elite. Viney the same. Lever has trouble staying on the park. Brayshaw isn’t even on the list. Gawn is a club great and is still a top 10 player in the league. Oliver is a role player at the moment. Kozzy is in career best form. So out of the top 8, two and playing to their contact. We are a mess.
  21. I don’t rate Jefferson at all but I do agree with Picket, in that as a manager/coach you need to put players in the best position to succeed. Selection is one way to do that. I look at players get game after game for no apparent reason or get rushed back with no competitive play in the bank in Fritsch, Spargo, Turner, Salem, Tholstrup, Petty, McAdam and in this case, Jefferson. It doesn’t help the teams continuity and in the younger players case, it doesn’t help their development. It also sends a strange message to the rest of the playing list. Especially when the senior team is not winning and the players and coaches are doing the same thing expecting a different result.
  22. This was a list management decision. The end of season review indicated that we required another young KPFpushing through. We went super hard to acquire a pick to get Cadman as a result. Failing that, the club tried to move into the top 10. I don’t think JT was Jeffo’s biggest cheerleader internally but after the top 8-9 picks it was a lottery so they went with who they thought was the best chance to be an AFL KPF. I’ve always been of the thought that he should’ve stayed on the skinnier side and developed a bigger tank to be a young Cam Bruce style. Sigh. It was a pretty bad draft. Tsatas went 5 after all. Makes my kicking as a mid forties bloke look elite.

Vale. I’ve been to a few panels where he would talk about his time coaching the Roys and the Bears. Wallsy had some of the hardest conditions both political and financial to deal with as a senior coach. He was clearly never afraid of a challenge.
  24. We may get close to squaring the ledger at 9-9 etc but our last 4 weeks are brutal. IE No chance. Let’s see what we have. Play some of the kids. Of course a coach who is coaching for their life, may choose a different policy.

I think Peter Ryan is pretty useful at getting info out of us. Plus whatever junk the players agent throws at him.
