The GWS footy dept are pretty smug at the moment. I have heard 2nd hand from a direct source that they are into Scully's management pretty heavily. Like some posters, I believe where there is smoke there is fire and don't like reading or hearing these rumours. Do I believe that he is signed sealed and delivered to GWS? No, but I am not sticking my head in the sand. Make no mistake about it, we would have signed Scully yesterday if we could've.

That's whack!

I have done the agility test a few time which needs 8? cones/poles which are 2-3 metres apart. Essentially you zig zag through the poles and finish where you began. Can't quite remember my times for the agility test but I remember looking up last years draft combine results and cursing my poor genetics as I was WAAAAAAYYYYY off the pace. Was pretty bad t the 20m as well actually. 3.35sec which is pedestrian to say the least, even for someone standing at 190cm and weighing in at 90kg.

I heard (not gospel though as it is through a mate in the media, not the club) that these tests were performed on grass which should give a more accurate indication of Watts' game speed. Also heard that the club is happy with his change in body shape and his dedication to his diet/workload. He could be a top 3 KPF in the near future if he is mentally up for the challenge.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH
JJJ replied to e25's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree. I can remember running around the backyard pretending to be Stretcher. I would take a specky, play on and take a couple of bounces before smashing the ball into the back fence (goals). He was a good player and should be remembered as such. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH

I wonder if he can "run like a gazelle" like his father? -
Bang! Spot on. As an aside, we don't need Jimmy's jumper to be displayed in the rooms etc... the great man is still around and punching.
-
Give it to Gawn. Started with Jimmy's 37 and would be a somewhat natural progression to 11...... I have heard that Fitzy will get a big upgrade in number, not sure if 11 is on the cards though.
-
Hey, you can't say you wouldn't have a good time. The sponsors and current players should be kept away though......
-
We should get him back at the club but not in playing capacity. Maybe as a social assistant for past players and members. Had a few beers with him from time to time in his younger days and he was a great guy to have around. He always ensured everyone was having a great time up until the point where would get so blind he needed to be lifted into a cab. Sort of like Chris Connolly without the rapier sharp wit and perhaps the cab charges. He is a top bloke but a frustrating player whom was loved by most, even though his short comings were regularly on display.

Spoke to a relatively recently retired Lions player in 09 and he stated that Johnstone would be delisted or traded at the 1st opportunity as Voss hated him. I asked for clarification and he just repeated, "Vossy hates him." Johnstone was the embodiment of all that was wrong under Daniher. A healthy Grimes was incredible compensation for such an inconsistent performer.

I get the feeling he was drafted because he was a good athlete with a lethal kick. I stand to be corrected, but I thought I read somewhere that he was not a prolific possession gatherer in junior footy. Fingers crossed he can improve enough to contribute to a winning side.
-
So if I have something on my mind that you think may be the consensus I should not type it? Rightyo.....
-
Yikes! This kid scares me and not in a good way. I'm on record as saying that I don't think he will make it but I really hope he does. We need some skills coming out of the back line.

In the MFC assistant coach thread I mentioned that I believe Scott has the GFC job. Sanderson would be a juicy get.
-
Pretty sure he is the new Geelong coach. Who else is available? A disenchanted Sanderson?
-
Wasn't Patrick Smith suggesting this is done for a 3rd round selection? Pick 57 or around that mark...

Sometimes the best trade is the one that isn't made. I reckon this will be exhibit A for us down the track.

Anybody who saw him play in the preseason would know that he looked to be in good shape for 2010. Hurt his knee doing something pretty courageous which was a shame but I think 2010 will go down as the year that made him. Apparently has an fairly rigorous offseason ahead, at his own request. Will be good, perhaps great. Potentially our Goddard.

I reckon Strauss is coming from a looooooong way back. The others I am reasonably excited about.
-
This is great news if true. I had heard that he was considering his future quite heavily earlier in the year with a view toward perhaps leaving. Actually, if I remember rightly the feeling was more to do with the fact that he felt he would be delisted. He has come full circle in my eyes. Loved his 2006 work and ability to have shots on goal, hated his frequent brain snaps as a utility and now love his work as a defensive forward.

Can it beat this? Well it's not quite a prediction but you get the idea. http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4475 Some interesting observations from some learned posters. Frawley was the standout for mine. Good to see I never viewed Warnock as a long term solution.

FB: Grimes Garland Bartram HB: Rivers Frawley Bruce C: Davey Moloney Scully HF: Sylvia Watts Dunn FF: Green Petterd Jurrah R: Jamar Trengove Jones INT: Morton McKenzie Bate Bennell Couldn't believe I selected Bartram but we lack options in his position and despite his obvious short comings, he has played well this year. The rest select themselves. I found this exercise to be quite easy. This is the team I wanted to select: FB: Grimes Garland Bail HB: Rivers Frawley Morton C: Davey Gysberts Scully HF: Sylvia Watts Tapscott FF: Green Jurrah Bennell R: Jamar Trengove Moloney INT: Petterd Wonaeamirri Gawn Jones

I have a 2010 jumper but never wear it to the footy. I wear it to footy training, having a kick with the boys and when I am trying to get a rise out of my cycling mates. The only bloke on beach road with an AFL jumper on. They make great wind vests....

How anybody could drop Bennell over Wonaeamirri is mind blowing. Wona is a favourite but he has done very little since he returned to the game. Bennell plays an effective defensive role and can use his pace to create some run. I am not sure who is going out but I reckon any one of the following would be feeling the heat after a few underwhelming games: Morton, Jurrah, Wonaeamirri with Johnson coming under scrutiny as a 2nd ruck. Bail would be unlucky to be in this group. Also, the way Scully ran out the game last week gave me little indication that he required a week off....
