  1. Can't be a coincidence that so many highly-touted youngsters have come into the club, only to leave, end up somewhere else, and struggle for a number of reasons. I have no doubt that some of it is on him, but much of the blame must also be placed firmly on the club, especially after the last two years.
  2. Adelaide - Their supporters come into the MCG like they own the place. Brisbane - Soft-spot because of both Fitzroy and the 3-peat. Carlton - Grew up in the north surrounded by Blues supporters so naturally hate them. Was great seeing us beat them in two finals. Collingwood - Don't mind the club itself, I admire its success and ability after being down and out at the end of the '90s. Essendon - Despise the arrogance from club and fans alike. Fremantle- At least they're not the Eagles. Geelong - Certainly loved them '07-2011. Kind of over them now. Neither love nor hate. Gold Coast - Don't mind them. GWS - Argh.... Hawthorn - The worst supporters in the league. Young, cocky...but rightly so. North Melbourne - Their supporters can be real bogans, or real cocky asses, probably from the Carey years. Don't mind the club though. Gotta love that culture. Port Adelaide - I don't mind them but I hate this sense of privilege they have, like, because they have been around so long in the SANFL that they deserve better recognition in the AFL. Richmond - Really admire their fans, despite how loud and crude they can be. Down and out for decades but still turn up. St Kilda - Terrible fans, terrible club. Sydney - Probably hate them the least of all interstate clubs. West Coast - I only really have trouble with one group of fans at MCG games: Eagles supporters. The club is okay I guess but wow, their supporters are asses. Bulldogs - Probably my "second team" mainly because they are similarly irrelevant as Melbourne.
  3. Clark, Dawes and Howe are all capable of moving up and pushing onto the wing. They all do it frequently. Especially Dawes. Hogan should stay in the goal square. I imagine in a traditional forward set-up it's a bit top-heavy but you'd expect them to rotate around Hogan.
  4. The reality is that the AFL controls a very tight ship, media wise. Australian journalism across most industries is obsessed with the politics of everything. If you watch the NBA, NFL broadcasts, there is a genuine, interesting and insightful covering of the actual game. We get that to some degree but the most amplified AFL coverage always has to do with a player getting in trouble, or drug scandals, or something like that. The likes of Seven, the radio stations, they get decent access, but they really have to grovel to get information and access to players and clubs. I agree that the standard of journalism is very low but the AFL doesn't make it easy for private, third-party publications and outlets to cover the game. Not to stand up for how bad it can get sometimes but the AFL is also partly to blame for the deterioration of media coverage.
  5. I'm happy to acknowledge Neeld's contribution to building our list with potential talent, but as far as coaching goes he clearly lost the plot from very, very early on. IMO How the team performs next season will determine Neeld's most lasting legacy: either he tried his best but the will of the club's ineptness eventually took over, or he was just a really, really bad coach.
  6. Transfer fee would be set based on market value of the player. He probably attracts a few people through the gates so his NT is seeking compensation. Standard, really.
  7. I really like the current jumper *shrugs*
  8. He won't play again in the AFL.
  9. Roos did coach a bottom team though. Sydney were down and out when he got in there.
  10. Played 200+ games in junior football. Before 18 I had played about 50 rep games, and a few under-16s Northern Knights. Made the under 18s squad of 40 back in late-2002. At the same time I was training to go to the US for 3 months on a basketball tour. While over there, I fractured my coccyx bone. Managed to get healthy quickly, but when I started training again in Jan 2003, I had a host of leg problems. First I had really painful knees and needed to get some draining. Then I developed a fracture on my left (kicking) leg's fibula. THEN I developed OP, which got so bad half-way through year 12 that I missed 2 weeks of school because I could hardly get out of bed. Before all that, anyway, I didn't make the final TAC Cup squad. Maybe injuries, maybe not good enough. A combination of both. Played 50 or so games in the Northern Football League -- under-19s and seniors -- before "retiring" in 2005. Haven't played since. Still train every day but my legs just aren't up to playing competitive sport. I'm only 27. The fact I was the height I am now -- 6'2 -- when I was 10. I went through a massive growth spurt very early. And at one stage I was playing basketball, tennis, football, karate and swimming. I think it was too much strain on my body.
  11. Infuriating towards the league or the club? I imagine our Darwin games would have been at the MCG. It's not "MONEY" that talks. It's efficiency. Win games + build brand + build support base = prime time! It's not rocket science. Don't point the finger of blame at anyone but the club.
  12. Every club drafts well: you go into a draft knowing what sort of player you need and how they can fit in a piece of the puzzle. If Melbourne hadn't taken the players they'd taken in the past years at the positions they did, other clubs would have thereabouts. It's clearly been the club's capacity to manage and develop the young men that come into the organisation. Rarely do players come into the league 100% equipped to play in AFL standard. The club has absolutely sucked at a managerial level. The recruiters really can only do so much.
  13. Maybe someine at Melbourne gave him a good rap?
  14. Morton wasn't an asset. He was taking up a spot on the list for someone like Terlich.
  15. Well, they are, seeing as though we're stakeholders. *members at least
  16. My source says 17.8%. WHO'S RIGHT? Capitalism is not capitalism unless both sides benefit from the transaction. If you're taking advantage -- using someone as a means -- then it's not capitalism. That's closer to crony capitalism aka. communism. Racism is born of individual fallacy. Don't degrade the worth of the individual with your closest commie crap. "I" will always be great than the "we". "The smallest minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities. Stop reading Green Left Weekly.
  17. I just don't see how the additions will lead to such dramatic improvement when the core as it stands is only a 2-win a year side, and, really, 3-win side in 2 years (if you don't count the GWS and GC wins in 2012). I think 5-6 wins is a reasonably expectation. Anything more than that and I'll be very surprised and impressed. 2015 is probably a better placed year to expect 8+ wins. Still a ways off. Stynes was a revolutionary. As was those before him, those after him, and those there now. Jackson and Roos sell a great product but how it actually works...well, that remains to be seen. I refuse to allow myself to be excited by revolutionary change at the club anymore. Stability and consistency remains to be seen.
  18. My argument is a flag 13 months ago with the same coach ya'all are criticising as having a bad approach.
  19. Amazing pickup. Might help the team get its hands on the ball a bit more.
  20. Jetta will thrive under Roos. Bookmark it.
