The continuing saga of Melbourne's injury list - 2014
praha replied to alpha33's topic in Melbourne Demons
Give it a rest. -
This post makes me marginally more depressed than I already was. They are the worst. Grew up in the North, so surrounded by Collingwood and Carlton supporters. Carlton supporters are so moronically stupid and arrogant it blows my mind. Last year I got into a war of words with an idiot calling Melbourne supporters (not players) "Toffs". Turned around and told him to focus on the game, not on the people watching it beside him. Of course his mates chimed in. Then there was the 2000 final. All game had this gloating idiot sitting behind me. At three-quarter time was really giving Melbourne a spray. When we won, every Melbourne supporter in the section absolutely gave it to him. There's something about Carlton supporters. They make it very personal and attack the individual more than other supporters.

Shh, no contract talk.
-
Why are people so hostile towards his contract? We can't talk about it without acknowledging and respecting his issue? There is another issue at play here: the one of a football club struggling for leaders, with a history of poor recruiting and bad luck. Doesn't anyone else want to know, "What next?" Or are we all just going to sit here typing in a circle jerk and one massive crying session. All the best for the bloke. But I want to know how my club is being compensated. Life goes on. There is a football match to be played.
-
Towards the cap for 2014, correct? Because I imagine he won't be listed next year?
-
What does this mean about his contract? I understand it is a sensitive issue but with a year remaining and on big coin, how does that work? Is there insurance policy? Does the pay-out come under the salary cap?
-
With all due respect, if he walks, it's Melbourne's doing, not the system's. Why does Melbourne deserve compensation? If Melbourne were playing footy like what was expected 2-3 years ago, and we maybe where the GC is now, do you think he'd walk for an extra 50-100k? I don't think he would. The club would be more upbeat, I imagine he'd be happier. The rich only get richer so long as the poor remain inept. Melbourne isn't "rich" because of its own failures. The sooner we acknowledge this, the sooner the club can move forward. Remember, in 2004, Hawthorn got 11,000 people to a home game at the MCG. They got out of it themselves, drafted well and crafted a great culture. Melbourne has failed in that regard. Hawthorn was once part of the "poor".

That's actually 7.5%

What is the MCC's position in the present debacle

So..he's NOT like a fine wine? -
IMO the club should look to draft a long-term prospect with the ideal in building for the future. We don't need ready made players that will help us win now. *runs and hides*

I'm still of the belief that it's not so much a lack of genuine talent, more so just a genuine urge to win. It actually seems as though some of the players don't know what it takes to play AFL footy. Every player on the list is talented in some regarded. It is the club's responsibility to ready them for the competition. Roos does this better than anyone. His team nor the one he left of Longmire was packed with stars. Just solid contributors that played a role. Now's the time to see which players have the capacity to shift from the loser mentality to the winning one. This week is as good as any. A club as a crossroad, struggling, under pressure. Give them hell. Make them earn the win. Is this team just doing to lie down again, or will it DO something?

He looks very good. Confidence is through the roof. Will improve with time. Hopefully he doesn't get Melbourne'd.

That was a complete and utter annihilation. It was less about Melbourne keeping close, and more about GWS just feeling things out and learning how to progress in the rain. Bookmark it: they will pass GC by next year. Melbourne was, again, awful.

Interest Factor in football these days almost dead
praha replied to Soidee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Eh, I still love football. It's not as great as the 90s when I was a kid but I still love the game. Nothing beats a good contest that's close at the end. Doggies v Tigers yesterday had a wonderful second half. Melbourne truly is an indictment on the league and sport. They make it very difficult to justify certain timeslots and sponsorship. I love the sport and love watching it but actually hate watching Melbourne. They are terrible. Easily the worst team to watch the past two years, and probably this year. GWS and GC at least tried they were genuinely inexperienced and lacked the cattle but you could smell an upset. With this team, I now know what my dad went through in the 70s. I expect a loss every, single, week. I can't remember the last time I went into a match genuinely confident of a win. Probably 2006. -
Great article.

Such a voice of reason has no place on these forums. BE GONE! -
I don't get it. It really hurts him that he lets people down so...he wants to give up so he doesn't let people down? I know the guy's in a tough place but I hope those around him push him to make the right decision. He belongs on the footy field. If it's all true, then he'll be riddled with regret if he gives up. It'll be the ultimate disappointment and let down if he throws it away and goes home. I hope this is the message given to him. Going home would be the worst thing for him. He needs to tackle these problems head on and that would include fighting the things head on, not just throwing the towel in. It seems its mental first, physical second that's keeping him away from the game. I'll be disappointed if he quits. Understanding and accepting, not angry, but disappointed.

Seems to have fitted in nicely in the Hawks' defense. Has been there every time the Dockers have gone deep. Cut off a few low shots at goal. Hawks fans speak highly of him.

You have misinterpreted what I have said. I did not suggest his workrate isn't up to scratch in any capacity.
