  1. Umm, ok PF your responding to something i wrote in a different thread. In short i don't see why us writting cheques to Richmond or Carlton is a good thing. And even if they ley us play the games there free of charge, ultimately we should be looking for a base somewhere that we can have our training facilities, admin a social club and play VFL out of also. We're not going to get that at Punt Road or Princess Park. Victoria Park maybe? But if we're looking for something that represents Melbourne, i think Brunswick Street says that more then Abbotsford. As for your question 'if the dogs can afford it why not us', well the Dogs already had a venue for starters, but as my post which i've listed below says. If we are going to do this, then we may as well go all in and totally redevelop a venue. And for the record i actually like it out at Casey. Helps the ground is a 2min walk from my house.
  2. BUMP Thought i'd bump this given there's been some further talk about it in the Weideman thread. If we were looking to leave Casey in a few years time with the view to setting up a base where everything could be set including our own VFL team, the question remains where close to the city could this be? Keeping in mind we want to be close to our home land and at the same time have a venue that has some room to develop which brings me to. Brunswick Street Oval, Fitzroy's old home ground from 1897 - 1966. If we rolled the dice and received government funding we could look to put in the proper facilities along with a social club that could go right next door to the bowls club. When the club re-branded late last year it was going for a younger alternative image that related to modern Melbourne. And what's more Melbourne then Brunswick Street? Close to lots of cool cafe's and bars including what I believe is one of Melbourne's best Parma's at The Lord Newry Hotel! Only 4.5km from the MCG, if the club was brave enough, I think Brunswick St Oval could be an option to develop once our agreement with AAMI Park ends at the end of 2019 I believe?
  3. Already in the training report thread.
  4. It's funny, cause i automatically thought the same thing when i initially wrote it, but then saw Waite only has 3cm & 1kg on Garland. Hardly figures that would make you think he'll monster Col.
  5. I actually agree and come to think of it McDonald forward might be a better go. Dunn on Petrie Garland on Waite Pedersen or Frost (whichever plays) on Brown
  6. Agree with this BR. Dunn could play at CHF and even play some very reduced minutes in the ruck if need be to give Gawn a spell when he needs it. Has kicked a bag of 5 before and started as a forward. Not sure if Frost or Pedersen are the answer. We need someone to hold the fort until Dawes is back or Weideman is ready.
  7. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-04-06/jeff-garlett-in-doubt-for-clash-with-north-melbourne-after-rolling-ankle Just our luck!
  8. One thing the Dogs have that we don't is a ground suitable for VFL use. Victoria Park is a possability depending on how much city of Yarra would charge for use. But i see no benefit in us writting fortnightly cheques to Richmond (Punt Rd) or Carlton (Princess Park). But i don't want this thread to be hijacked. If Weideman plays a good game this weekend and we struggle up forward, then I think he could push for a Round 4 debut.
  9. As others have said, not be the least suprised. We're more then capable, especially as it isn't at Etihad. If we win i'll go back to believing finals are still a shot.
  10. Had time to calm down and think about it. I propose 4 changes: IN: Dunn, Frost, Hunt, O. McDoanld OUT: Brayshaw, Harmes, Kent, Pedersen FB: Garland, Dunn, Jetta HB: Lumumba, O. McDonald, Salem C: Bugg, N. Jones, Tyson HF: Vandenberg, T. McDonald, Kennedy FF: Watts, Hogan, Garlett FOLL: Gawn, Vince, Viney INT: Frost, Hunt, M. Jones, Oliver EMERG: Harmes, Neal-Bullen, Stretch Firstly I'd be looking to throw Tom McDonald forward as Hogan needs someone to help take the pressure off. We can manage this by brining both Oscar & Dunn back into the side: Garland takes Waite, Dunn to Petrie & Oscar to Ben Brown. I'd also play Sam Frost as a tall utility. Can play him as 2nd ruck, give any of the talls a spell when they need one and you could even throw him on a wing when need be given his pace. Also I think Jayden Hunt could be worth a punt given his pace. We've been exposed with a lack of leg speed in the opening two matches, so I reckon Hunt is worth a go. Could just as easily go with Stretch though. Brayshaw & Kent need to play the house down at VFL level to get back in & Neal-Bullen would be the unlucky one to miss out for me.
  11. Based on the match, if you had to select one of Stretch or Hunt in the seniors to help us with our outside run, which you you pick? I'm a big fan of Stretch.
  12. He'd have to be in the frame, but would be suprised if it were this early. The whole Casey v Melbourne Reserves argument has been done 1000 times with the same two KEY questions unable to be adequately answered. 1. Where will we find the money to field a reserves team? 2. Where would they play their matches? Noting that playing out of Punt Rd will result in us writting Richmond FC a cheque every time.
  13. The drafting of Mitch King last year made perfect sense given our current ruck situation. Hulett I conceed was one from left field. However with an ageing Dunn, Garland, Pedersen and Dawes we're not exactly spoilt for talls.
  14. Very good points STMJ and hard to disagree. Really think one of Stretch or Hunt needs to come in to help with our outside run.
  15. Any reports on how our pair of King's went? Notice they were amongst the goal kickers? Also any chance Weideman may be pressing for an early debut to help out Hogan? He seems to have done nicely the last two weeks.
  16. Grundy serves one straight back at me!
  17. That was not a mark!
  18. Grundy's not to bad in the ruck contest. But gee he gives them nothing around the ground.
  19. I'd add Neal-Bullen to our list also. I reckon he's going to be a beauty!
  20. Could just be that he wants to wish everyone a happy St Patricks Day for tomorrow?
  21. I'll use Wiseblood's answer to another question to answer yours. You need a balanced team. Grimes can play across half back if need be and his form has been at the least equal to that of M. Jones. Harmes & Kennedy can't play across half back. They're both very stiff though.
  22. FB: Garland, Dunn, Jetta HB: Lumumba*, T. McDonald, Salem C: Bugg, N. Jones, Tyson HF: Vandenberg, Pedersen, Kent FF: Watts, Hogan, Garlett FOLL: Gawn, Vince, Viney INT: Brayshaw, Frost, Grimes, Oliver EMERG: Harmes, Kennedy, O. McDonald * If Lumumba gets through next week i reckon he'll play. Harmes & Kennedy unlucky to miss out, but it's good to see we have some options.
  23. I think the argument Old Dee is the taxing conditions Darwin provides more so then the length of the flight.
