Long way to go yet, and injuries will play a part as they always do. Fingers crossed, luck is on our side in this regard, and we can maintain this level of effort each week for the rest of the year. I think you're right though, with a little bit of luck we could sneak into the bottom half of the 8 this season. Not sure which team out of the current top 8 we replace though, how I would love it to be West Coast. That would be so sweet.

Round 5: 3 - J. Viney, 2 - M. Gawn, 1 - D. Tyson Awesome game by these 3 (not-so-)gentlemen!!

Nice. Sorry to go off topic but I've been waiting all week for a headline of "AFL to drop draws on Grand Final day". Apologies if this has already been published and I missed it.

The Game Plan - It seems to be working

Yep me too. Obviously a long way to go, but dunno if I could stomach another West Coast Sydney GF -
Round 4 3- J. Viney 2- J. Watts 1- N. Jones

You forgot Frost's inboard pass to Oliver I think it was that led up to one of our goals in the 2nd term. It was a super dangerous kick but nailed it perfectly, reminded me of TJ in in his pomp.
-
Hunt was okay, he's had a taste, now he needs to go back to Casey and learn how to use the pace he's been blessed with. Vince straight in for him. Not sure who goes out for Garlett? Pedo? Bit harsh on him, but Frost won't be dropped. Petracca maybe in if Brayshaw doesn't come up, or they think Oliver needs a rest.
-
just what i was thinking too. He's more than likely gone at season's end.
-
maybe they should stand it up and climb the bloody thing for a change.

Come and join in the fun Moonshadow over in the Brownlow Competition thread where we're having a contest to predict the 321 votes for each of the Dees games. There's a demonland shirt for the winner with the most votes at the end of the season.
-
I've got a gut feeling that its all going to click for the Dees either this week or the week after and we're going to see a complete domination similar to that game against Sydney in the Bailey era where we absolutely blew them away. It's gotta happen sooner or later,

Out: Vince (susp.), Vanders (ankle) In: Brayshaw, Garlett (if fit otherwise ANB)

Agreed wholeheartedly. I have to say that the complaining and arm waving that has been a feature of Hogan's early season antics have made me cringe and its something that I hope Jesse eliminates from his game because it reminds me of Matthew Lloyd in his pomp. Neita never had to resort to such carp playing deep forward.

I'd give my left nut for a chance to execute that kick (and I'm a left footer like Bugg). I'd have used the right boot and floated it 5-10 m in front of where Stretch and Thomas competed for it. That's all that needed to be done, a little floater kick there was that much bloody space in front of him.
-
I know that's what they pay but I didn't really think it was deserving of a free kick in this instance and I would have been disappointed in Stretch for trying to milk it for a free. Hats off to the lad for having the wherewithall to grab the spill and try to boot the winning goal. Still [censored] off about Bugg though.
-
I actually disagree, Thomas spoils the ball and is watching it in flight. The problem with that play is Buggs poorly executed kick, look how much space he could have kicked into for Stretch to run into and take an uncontested chest mark. Inst ead he tries to drop it on his head, why? Stretch had metres of separation from any opponent and a veritable paddock to run into. It boggles the mind really how bad that kick of Bugg's was. Edit: By the way just wanted to give some kudos to Anthony Hudson, who has become my favourite commentator by far (even better than D. Commetti). Doesn't engage in the ridiculous hyperbole that Hamish McGlochlan, BT, Derwayne and the rest of the numpties use as stock in trade these days. Don't mind G. Healy on the special comments either, he's definitely on the Dees bandwagon as others have said on this forum.
-
Nah, it's just that we've seen what he brings to the table at seniors level, a one paced accumulator, who always seems rushed. I'm not sure he'll ever be much more than depth, especially now we've seen how explosive Oliver is.
-
Didn't want to start a new thread for this, but has anyone else seen this weeks top 10 moments on the afl site? Number one is James Sicily taking an uncontested mark while Bob Murphy does his knee in the background, I kid you not. I realise the moment includes Sicily kicking the game winning goal, but pretty poor taste to include the Murphy injury in the edit.
-
Great way to reward a competitive team effort! Out: Vince in: Garlett I'd also consider Brayshaw in for Bugg.
-
I hope so too, but the pessimist in me fears a relapse to complacency, having done enough this week to avoid further external scrutiny. This is a massive tone setting game for both clubs seasons.

I'm on record on this site that there should be the equivalent of a MRP for umpires that is in the public forum (not behind closed doors like its some sort of secret society business). They definitely do need to be held more accountable because the inconsistency and plain [censored]-ups are frustrating in the extreme. For example, the umpire that didn't pay Harmes mark in the last quarter should be cited and fined or suspended as should the one who paid the ruck infringement free against Gawn that resulted in Goldstiens 30th goal for the day. On the other hand the ump who didn't pay 50 m for Wagner dumping Waite after he marked in the last should also be fined or suspended as that was 50 every day of the bloody year.

Our small/mid sized forwards need to start adding some strings to their bow and take on more midfield minutes (I think this is why Bugg has been an automatic so far as he can go into the midfield). Kent, Harmes and Vanders all need to lift in this department. Garlett already does his turn in the middle (and is probably one of the most damaging mids in the team), but we need him forward as he's clearly our best forward. I fear for Kent because I can't see him having the endurance (especially with that body shape of his Tapscott 2.0) to contribute any midfield minutes, so as soon as Petracca is fit, I reckon Kent is a goner. Harmes I have more hope for. Vanders surely needs to be in the middle a bit more (I'm guessing they're easing him back into full match fitness ?). This season is going to be a massive challenge for Kent, he's going to have to improve his endurance if he wants to remain best 22, unfortunately I think he's destined to be backup to cover injuries to either Garlett or CP5 in the future, and I reckon he'll leave for opportunities elsewhere when his contract expires.

My 3 word player analysis v North Melbourne
leucopogon replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
Stretch was a butcher today, Frost a spud, Hogan a tease. Hopefully the team is as livid as I am with that result.
