Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
The helicopter view suggests the team has in the past two weeks opened up its scoring options. I am away so haven't really analysed it too much but it seems we are getting more scoring shots but taking more risks hence the scores against have gone higher. 93 pts and 104 pts are the highest against this year (save for rd 2 when we played bris and conceded 93 pts) I am wondering whether this is because we are now somewhat locked into a top 4 spot so can break the shackles a little more offensively? And are less concerned about holding teams to low scores?

We look better with BBB up fwd. I thought we were going to be cooked if we were relying on him after last year's fade out but he gives us a target, understands fwd craft, is hard to match up on and can kick straight. He often leads a long way up the ground as well which gives us a chop out,. Our crumbers work better with him down there.

POSTGAME: Rd 18 vs Brisbane
Haven't read this thread yet, was up till the wee hours watching the replay after seeing probably the second greatest escape this club has engineered (after Rd 23 Geelong 2021!) But I just wanted to say how disgraceful and disgusting was the umpiring surrounding Petracca. The club should lodge a massive complaint. He was continually held, impeded and scragged off the ball at every single stoppage. 1 late free kick was all he got. Makes his game all that much better We copped the worst 3 umpires possible that all seem to have a hatred of Melbourne but this was beyond the pale.

PREGAME: Rd 18 vs Brisbane
The coaching and fitness staff map out the whole year and look at all the breaks between games, travel, byes etc. They build a plan around that and maybe have to adjust for injuries and possibly easy vs hard games. Its no surprise to hear that the players had a special training regimen for the 3 x 10 day breaks that took into account how we faded last year. In fact I would be surprised and disturbed if we hadn't done that. AS frustrating as our games against Geelong and the giants has been Goodwin has always focused on the bigger picture which is getting a fit and healthy list to a top 4 position. Its us supporters that feel the angst when we drop winnable games. I'm nervous but I trust them at this point.

Or he may not. Or he may get injured We don't have any idea. Grundy is a great get at a good price to replace Jacko while we are in our 'window' and while we are grooming another young ruckman. Our club has a good record in generating highly competitive ruckmen and I suspect it will continue.
