PREGAME: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne
Because that's not how we roll. We'll continue to ignore him until such time as we may need a backup ruck and then we'll select Shache, but not play him. After that we will trade Fullerton to the next up and coming Premier that is desperate for a ruck and we'll give them a leg up and take of 4th round pick

Just beat North and get back on track
I don't think so Goody will probably roll out the same team the following week.

The midfield numbers behind staggering drop-off
Our DNA is contest and defence We have lost contest by a wide margin this year. Some here talk about post-clearance possession and slingshot off the backline but the reality is we have been poor in the midfield all year. Winning clearance and/or helping our defence springboard forward. Oliver is down, Viney appears to be playing injured, Petracca has been needed forward to prop up the Petty experiment. Pickett shows some excitement when he goes in there but doesn't impact enough. Rivers hasn't been allowed in there. Salem's form has been very patchy. One big failure it would seem is how poorly the 'second tier' or 'up and coming' midfield has been playing. Sparrow is a big one. I am a fan but his output has been terrible. We seem to be using him in shut down roles but maybe we are robbing ourselves. Laurie hasn't come on as we would have expected. And then there is Bowey who has been inured for a large part of the year, Spargo who hasn't played since rd 1, Howes who is being asked to do a lot, McVee who has lost a lot of his drive... I got to thinking which players have improved this year. TMac, JvR, ANB, Maybe Max Those that have gone backwards Petty, Viney, May, Langdon, McVee, Fritsch, Oliver, Salem, Chandler, Sparrow, Spargo, Hunter This is our problem in a nutshell The same or thereabouts Turner, Rivers, Lever, Bowey, Pickett, Petracca Not one of young players (that have played at least 1 season) have improved this year. That bodes poorly for the future

You're clutching at straws here What is a doctor over the phone going to do that a doctor on the spot can't do. Seriously bad take.

How typically Melbourne Brodie Grundy
Something isnt right about the whole experiment. That Brodie was on the outer from rd 17 on says that they put a line through him. Rd 12 and 13 we beat Carlton and Collingwood - both teams that play two rucks. Yet we chose to go into finals against Carlton and Collingwood without two rucks doesn't ring true for me. Melbourne, Grundy and Gawn have been very tight lipped about it, only saying nice things about each other but it smells to me. The final nail being the choice of Schache when Max had a broken toe. One day the story will come out....

I am more concerned with Tracc's comments that he has been spooked by this and couldn't watch any games over the weekend. etc. The body will likely heal but the mental scares could well end up being worse.

Any truth that Gawn threw the toys out of the pram?

NON-MFC: Round 14
You could see the North player clearly touched the ball. They were also dudded when Sheezel received a free kick deep in the fwd pocket and Coll kicked the ball three times down the field. Luckily Sheezel kicked the goal but a clear 50m penalty that they didn't pay. I hate collingwood.

Christian Petracca’s 2024 Season Ending Injuries
It was blindingly obvious from level 4 that he was grimacing every time he moved, could not raise his arms and was done. Yet he played a quarter.

Andrew Wu (The Age) on our DEECLINE
I'd being favour of Goodwin moving back up into the coaching box. Whilst it may have been a good idea when the players were younger and needed more immediate feedback etc I think the time is for the coaches to be together to strategise game day and be more responsive to bad starts, run-ons etc. Choco can handle the bench but the bigger issues are being sheeted home to the coaching staff - maybe its the messaging getting confused - who knows. I would be trying it though.

Andrew Wu (The Age) on our DEECLINE
Melbourne players are clueless as to what to do. There is confusion from the coaching staff clearly - pretty sure he's not telling them to play like this. We are so Max dominant that we are easy to coach against. Players continually dump kick to Max despite us have free players around. Viney has tunnel vision and simply cannot see free players around him. Is possibly the worst for bombing into our fwd50 Oliver is currently a liability. I'd play him out of the fwd 50. Can't do any worse. Fritsch is insanely frustrating with his poor/lame efforts and lack of physicality. He also has blinkers and misses easy hit up kicks. Something is wrong with May His positioning the last few weeks has been terrible. Teams are forcing him up the ground. He looks lost without Lever, can't bend over and is playing in pain. He has become fumbly. McVee has lost his drive. Howes has become pedestrian. Billings is slow of mind and of foot. Turnover city. Pressure applied has fallen to its lowest this year. The players are cooked in the mind and bereft of confidence. The gameplan has fallen apart. Cant see myself going /watching for the rest of the year. Its too emotionally draining. Goodwin will be Houdini if he can turn this rotting ship around.

The comp thinks we are soft targets We play too nice. No mongrel. Think May's ribs, tracc, Brayshaw, May's cheek from Hawkins.

A graphic on On the Couch showed where we had our shots at goal from . No prizes for guessing the left hand fwd pocket was around 75% of shots. Is it any wonder we miss goals from there? Its 2019 all over again. And the Pies while they had a few wide shots managed to nail them.

POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
The one thing you can do even when you're not playing well is bring pressure Kings birthday, 85,000 people and we play our lowest pressure game for the year No one can sugarcoat that. Not even the Pollyannas on here Something is drastically wrong. The players aren't listening to Goodwin There is no heart. No pride. The time for tinkering is over. Max is a great player, one of our best ever but he's almost a liability now the way we continually dump kick it to him even when other players are free. Even if gets it the players up the ground are static. They are clueless about what to do, where to run, how to tackle, how to kick. Times up Simon
