PREGAME: Rd 08 vs Geelong
Previous few games the Cats have gone with Stanley taking the centre bounce then moving back to CHF. Blicavs took Tracc at centre bounce and then the ruck contests b/n the arcs. Hawkins takes the ruck contests in the fwd 50 They jump into Max at every chance, switch the ball constantly asks chip their way into their fwd line

PREGAME: Rd 08 vs Geelong
The Cats will play keepings off. Take it to the bank. The key for us is to stop that and put pressure on the ball carrier. They switch at every opportunity and try to control tempo. We have to cover the ground well to contain them The Richmond game was scrappy and we turned the ball over a lot but the Cats will be a different stye of game One thing Goodwin is good at is ensuring that the first halves of games are a scrap and an arm wrestle. He likes to stay in games for long periods before grinding out wins. Geelong are totally beatable and we will have to play well to do it. A number of players need to lift but most of all our midfield. Our backline this year has been awesome and deserve a huge amount of credit for keeping us on track while our mids have gone missing

2024 MRO & Tribunal
I was asking a rhetorical question but it seems that it is the way we are heading. Yes it would be ridiculous enforcing it (in particular with 4 umpires and different interpretations) but what's new with the AFL? Perhaps consideration should be given to how 'hard' players attack the ball? It's been a foundation of our game but they seem to want to eliminate contact. We were always taught to 'go in hard you won't get hurt' but maybe that has to change. Its already become like basketball which I hate .....

2024 MRO & Tribunal
So at what point do we outlaw players running back with the flight of the ball? Our is that 'brave'?

PREGAME: Rd 07 vs Richmond
Let me outline Yze's game plan. 1. Don't kick it high into the Richmond fwd line 2. Chip the ball into the fwd line. Dirty balls work well against the Dees. 3. Avoid May and Lever 4. Pressure them relentlessly and watch them crumble 5. Avoid May and Lever 6. Jump into Gawn's back at every single opportunity. Hold him scragg him - he never gets a free so don't worry 7. Shake Olivers hand really hard at the start of the game. Give him lots of high fives 8. Avoid May and Lever. 9 Above all and if you have forgotten everything else, avoid May and Lever

Best Recruits from Other Clubs
We also drafted Darren Jarman but he refused to come and stayed in Adelaide before going to the Hawks a year later. Absolute draft tampering

Best Recruits from Other Clubs
Two of the most important recruits for Melbourne were Bernie Vince and Jordan Lewis They were at a time when Melb was crud for years and no gun player wanted to come near the club We were in a critical part of our building phase with numerous young players and no one with Premiership experience on the field. Vince was a two time B&F winner and a great teacher In fact there were very few at the club with any Premiership experience until Roos came along. No one knew how to win. And Lewis, with 4 Premierships was possibly the most important because of his stature in the game. Players hung off every word he said and followed has advice. These two with Roos (and Peter Jackson) rescued the MFC. I will be forever grateful.

POSTGAME: Rd 05 vs Brisbane
Infuriating is one word. Dumb is another. They played the same way against us over the last 4 games. 3 losses for us and a 1 pt win. Poor teams like Hawthorn can't keep it up for 4 qtrs but good sides can. We have no answer for the chip and give game style when good sides do it. Watching it live it is blindingly obvious what their tactics are. Our inability to combat it was appalling Clarry at half back and even first gamer Kolt in the middle at one stage? What the hell? Raynor playing like a superstar. Brisbane blocking our mids to give Neale a clean run ever stoppage. Hopeless coaching and leadership last night.

POSTGAME: Rd 05 vs Brisbane
We simply let them chip their way through our defence. It was pathetic. They refused to kick to may or lever, They had 40 more marks, 30 more tackles and 50 uncontested possessions. It's exactly how they have played against us the last 3 times. Our coaching staff were clueless. Gawn tried hard but was useless, hitting the ball all night to Brisbane players Out fwds aside from Chandler was disgraceful embarrassing Performance

The Transition
Collingwood's slingshot style also meant a defence has less time to set up. They threw numbers at the contest and used handball plus short sharp kicks to disrupt defences. They're not being allowed to do that so much this year.
