The GIANTS added athletic key forward Wade Derksen to their list in the 2022 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft. Plucked out of the WAFL by the GIANTS in the middle of the year on the back of an eye-catching 22-disposal, four-goal, seven-mark performance for the Peel Thunder, Derksen is a latecomer to the game after starting off playing rugby. Standing at 197cm, Derksen was previously part of Essendon’s VFL program before playing with Nightcliff in the Northern Territory. Derksen showed strong form for the GIANTS at VFL level in 2023, finishing as the side’s leading goalkicker for the season with 35 majors from 18 games. He was rewarded with a two-year contract extension which will see him in orange and charcoal until the end of 2025.

I was one of those. And judging by the way we played this year it is to Goodwin's instruction. Wait till the cavalry arrives then bomb it forward. No one in the top 8 this year seems to play that way.

Probably the difference is that Gale hadn't been there that long and so therefore was not essentially 'part of the problem' From memory he was appointed in Dec 2015, the club performed poorly in 2016 and the review was commissioned. They won a flag in 2017. And interestingly from the terrific interview Speed said all the copies of the review were retrieved and shredded. Ho one was allowed to leave the room with a copy. It was definitely not a document for public consumption and nothing from the report was leaked into the media. Seems textbook to me. I don't have any faith in Pert from personal dealings in days gone by and he to me seems 'part of the problem'. His presence in an 'external' review would seem to undermine the process. I hope not and hope the Dees can get back on track.

There have been too many mis-steps by this administration in recent times. Kate's train wreck interview was symptomatic of how some at the club operate with a siege mentality. Fairly obvious who the next domino will be. We are lacking real leadership at the club so look fwd to seeing what Brad and hopefully Stephen Smith can do.

That's garbage but there is an argument to say the club has been built around Max and the game plan is in essence kick it to Max down the line. I love Max but IMO its the cause of a lot of the onfield issues. Arguably its why the Grundy trade didn't work. The club and Max weren't prepared to compromise and Grundy had limited flexibility onfield.
