  1. They are defined by the stats people the same way but clearly when a pack forms and players aren't running full pace rather diving on a relatively stationary target then you would expect less injuries....
  2. I don't think that's right. Blocking is only paid in a marking contest. You can shepherd if the ball is within 5m.
  3. I dont believe the ump said "it hit the post" rather he wanted to "make sure it hadn't hit the post". We were dudded.
  4. I was thinking along those lines. We have recently had too many players going in for a contest rather than trusting your team mate and waiting for the receive. It might have been a brain fade because he his usually happy for a contest. The problem is that a shepherd would have definitely helped his mate win the contest.
  5. That video looks damning altho it is possible he was assuming Trac would get the ball to him in the clear.... yeah, nah...
  6. Yeah the more I think about it I think you are right. So with no clear evidence the ball hit the post how in the hell have they called it a point?
  7. I know for sure that when a goal ump is standing in front of the post and the ball hits him/her then it is deemed a point. I am not sure what the same ruling is for a player though. Having said that I think it was reasonably clear that the ball didn't touch the post so the only option is that Tracc's arm (that was holding the ball) hit the post - he seemed to push off with that arm. As usual the AFL Rules of the Game don't mention this at all. Like so many things they make it up as they go...
  8. Wasn't he the travelling emergency?
  9. I don't think is time on ground altho that looks most likely. Each qtr was around 24/25 mins so it has Oliver at 103:13. He would have had at least 3-5 mins off each qtr given the conditions you would think....
  10. Bernie was dropped not rested.
  11. Smith went forward because he had hurt his hip. May be in doubt for next week. Goody said it was great that he could play out they game. Thats why TMac went back and Smith went forward.
  12. The ump said "I think its a goal but I just want to make sure tha ball didn't hit the post earlier" There was no evidence that we saw where it shows the ball hitting the post but you could clearly see Tracc's arm holding the ball hit the post. If I am standing with my back against the post and the ball hits me, its my understanding that this is called a point. Anyone know if this is correct and if this is the basis a point was called?
  13. My thoughts watching the game.... VDB only played the last 3 quarters so his effort is even more meritorious. The umpiring was fantastic. Hardly noticed them and they let the game flow. Why TF can't we do the same at elite level? The tackling by the Demons was first class. Really smart. Waited and planned the tackle rather than going in fast and furious and giviong away lots of frees. Can see why people didn't like Tyson's game. I'm not a great fan but I can see what he was trying to do. He kept trying to break tackles and create play rather than a quick give. A lot of his work didn't come off but a lot did. Got the ball a heap and did some good things. Was a very good game in the conditions. JKH very smart in the conditions. Easy BOG.
  14. You can talk these guys up all you like. The results are there to see. Last season and this. Defenders are there to stop scoring . We simply can't do that at the average rate in the AFL when oppo teams go i50 . We are well below average. In fact this year we are 16th. I'll say it again for you. 16th. Doesnt matter what i think. we are close to the worst. Last year we were the worst. OMac is hopeless in my view. He played a couple of decent games this year but thats it. Jetta's stats this year are actually pretty bad but I do rate him. Hibberd is not playing like he was last year. Salem is Ok without being great. We were last in stopping oppo marks inside defensive 50 last year. Not sure what the stat is this year but I would hazard a guess and say its close to that. Our talls back there are just no good.
  15. we have a c.rap defence who are incapable of defending one on one. Same as last year. And when our mids are so lazy and let oppo players run past them at will it makes for a terrible result. Goodwin says he knows the problem - I am actually starting to doubt it - but it is the same in the Cats, Pies and PA games. 16th this year for scores once oppo are i50. we were 18th last year. What a disgrace. Roos must cringe watching that vision. I do.

The jungle drums are beating about this... I have some limited experience with Collingwood when Pert was there and its fair to say the view is he is an ordinary bloke and an even more ordinary administrator. I hope I am wrong but I don't feel good about this appointment.
  17. The were later fined extensively for breaching the salary cap in that year. Another tainted flag.... In 1996, Essendon were fined a record $638,250 ($250,000 in back tax and penalties, $112,000 for draft tampering and $276,250 for breaching the salary cap regulations), forfeited their first, second and third round picks in the National Draft and were excluded from the 1997 rookie and pre-season drafts after a joint Australian Tax Office and AFL investigation found that they had committed serious and systematic breaches of the salary cap regulations totalling $514,500 between 1991 and 1996, including $110,000 in 1993 when Essendon won the premiership No sympathy at all for that rotting stinking carcass of a club.
  18. Yes but badly! Maybe the Morris' were the only two to compete in the championships for the first 30 or so years!
  19. Tom Morris Sr. Old Tom Morris didn't invent the game of golf, but he is recognized as the sport's founding father. He played in the first 36 British Opens, winning four times, and sired a son, Tom Morris Jr., who won the world's oldest golf championship four times on his own. Morris still holds two British Open records—oldest champion (age 46 in 1867) and largest victory margin (13 in 1862).
  20. The stench of drugs will be hanging around Essendon for years. Fantastic. I hate them. As we supporters know, a bad culture tales a long time to change....
  21. But you keep coming back to this thread and commenting......
