If you think Hodge's worth to the Lions is based purely on his on-field output you are sadly mistaken. Yes he looked slow last night but the pies are fast. Hodge is the backline general who along with the coach know the game plan intimately. It is even more critical having bloke's like Hidge and Lewis in the side when there are no runners allowed on to the field. They are getting to the end of their careers but can still have very valuable input into developing sides.

Yes, I hope Mrs McDonald is OK too. FFS are you really worried about TMac because his little brother was dropped? His little brother has been poor for quite a while. Needs to learn his craft at Casey, not the seniors.

Mrs McDonald (aka @binman) must be choking on his Weeties.

WTF? tanking in a GF? FOr what purpose? so they could get draft picks to win a GF?

Out OMac. In a deck chair or witches hat.

Probably the worst team we have put on the park on paper since 2013 but they worked really hard as a team to get themselves back into the contest. Magnificent result of which they should be proud. Defensively we played much further back towards their goals and whilst they seemed to transition out of defence easily they were thwarted often at the centre of the ground with our better and more composed defenisive set up Frost did well on Buddy who had many of his kicks up the ground. OMac was beaten yet again but Hore stood up really well and Salem was composed. Not a fan of the Wagners but they both worked extremely hard all night. Hunt was dangerous in the fwd line and did well with his two goals. Pruess had a few Swans fearful in contests which is fantastic to see. At one point in the 2nd qtr Heeney had more posessions than Oliver Brayshaw harmes and Jones combined but they too managed to turn it around. You could almost see our mojo being brought back to life. Now to back it up against the Aints.

They hand them out freely in Adelaide....

He is a horrible commentator that has got worse and worse. His fawning over players, his faux excitement about passages of play and his irrelevant historical 'facts' are passe and tired. We don't need to hear the play described in mind numbingly boring detail. Give us less and more insightful comments. His only saving grace is that he his 1000 x better than Derwayne

Box Hill Hawks v Casey Demons - VFL Round 1
jnrmac replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Its a repeat of what we see at Senior level. - Too many players going for a contest, balls spills free, swept away by Hawks and delivered beautifully by foot - Hawks can take a mark, we are devoid of players that can mark - uncontested possessions we are being creamed - players doing basic things wrong, like being on the wrong side of a contest, covering space not a man, short handballs to a manunder pressure. It's pretty demoralising watching this knowing that there is no-one other than maybe Stretch who will come into the senior side. Our coaching staff at Demon HQ and Casey seem to be on the same page, it's just the wrong page. -

Omac and Frost: Premiership Kryptonite
jnrmac replied to At the break of Gawn's topic in Melbourne Demons
Leave Frost for Buddy. Has done a reasonable job before but replace OMac with Kielty. At least he can defend and can take a contested mark. He also has a football brain. -
dysfunctional backline without leadership is easy to exploit. We miss Lewis more than people realise and of course it doesn't help having defenders that can't defend, or 3 of them fly for the same ball and leave Ess players out the back or have a brain in their head because they guard 'space' not players. Sure we don't have May and Lever but we didn't for most of last year as well.
-
He needed to coach his own team AND have Casey players play the Melbourne system.

Everyone needs to vent sometimes

Great that you are relaxed about this. From where I sit we have lost the last 6 games straight and don't look like putting together a decent game. We have won something like 7 qtrs of football out of the last 24. But you are relaxed so its all OK.
-
For 4 years we have been in the bottom 3 clubs for defending one on ones. It's not rocket science. We can't defend. It's also no surprise why we have sold the farm for Lever and May. We are desperate for key backs. Oscar has no attributes as a footballer. He can't take a contested mark, he gets outbodied easily, his positioning is poor, he has a Queen Mary turning circle and he is slow. He is an OK decision maker with ball in hand and has neat disposal but so he should to get to this level. You speak as if this is something new. We were 9th last year for defence in terms of score. We leak like a sieve and teams have in recent years been able to pile on multiple goals in quick time against us. Yes we play a team defence but FFS a defender has got to be able to defend and OMac can't do it. He is a total liability as a footballer. 130 pts against with 50 i50s 2 weeks running. It's about as poor as it gets.
-
You will never win games with defenders that can't defend.
-
We lost contested ball 3 times I believe for 2018. We have lost it 3 times already in 2019; 5 if you count JLT. No point in having fleet footed wingers if you don't win the ball.

Omac and Frost: Premiership Kryptonite
jnrmac replied to At the break of Gawn's topic in Melbourne Demons
Mrs McDonald must be getting sick of trying to defend him... It was obvious 3 years ago our defence was terrible and OMac wasn't going to makeit. Has no attributed as a footballer other than his disposal is quite neat. 5 touches agains Ess, 2 in effective, zero marks and 1000 fumbles + over-running the ball. Number of times he let players fal out the back 327. As next to useless as a footballer as you could ever be. Zac Dawson would cream him. -
No, never.
-
How's that defence working for you @binman? 30 shots at goal from 54 entries for 20 goals. Your poster child OMac going to be AA this year? they can't hide him any more.
-
So they say. It remains to be seen. And two of the main players are dead. Gutter journalism at its finest. No one gives a flying 10 years on.
-
Yeah yeah Mrs Oscar. We were 9th last year from memory for defence. You are seriously deeluded about our defensive capabilities: 4 entries for 4 goals in the third quarter in 10mins. Great effort. If we were soooo great in defence why have they spent a fortune to get Lever and May?
-
Shaun Higgins is the type of player we should target. Strong, quick, accumulator, elite foot skills, wins his own ball and not expensive.
