POST MATCH DISCUSSION: Melbourne vs Richmond - JLT 01
jnrmac replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
They would have been practising all summer what they should have done against Cox....Umps need to be aware of it -
Greg Williams was pretty handy. Oliver in time will be talked about like Williams who was unstoppable in his day and had extraordinary vision.

Where did I suggest it was easy? Just said it was fixable.

The way the ball is held is critical as is the height of the drop. Salem has the ideal hold and drop. Some players like TMac used to hold the ball in a way (for field kicking) that it would sometimes float end on end the other way. Salem would never kick a ball like that because the starting vertical position virtually doesn't allow it. Interestingly TMac has fixed that with his set kicking where the ball is held vertically (end pointing twds ground) and his hands remain very low minimising the height of the drop. He almost places the ball on his foot. I recall too that both Neitz and Robertson were ordinary set kicks when they started but became very reliable in the latter half of their careers.

It's definitely fixable. I went on a tour of the VIS facility in Footscray where they do biometric testing on kicking action. around a dozen probes are taped to the body and fed to a video/computer that shows exactly what is happening with the kicking motion, drop, body lean etc. Pinpoints exactly what should be addressed/fixed. This was back in 2011 so I imagine it has improved a lot since then

He made Petracca look Biafran...

Not sure but its an interesting point. MH would take precendence you would think.

The last few days Grant Thomas has stated players are citing "mental health issues" to dodge the illicit drug policy. Nick Riewoldt has backed it up by saying players are taking the p.iss. Now Jack Steven is taking indefinite leave from the Saints for "mental health" reasons Just sayin.... We wish Jack all the best.

Post Practice Match Discussion - Melbourne v Collingwood

White was Danihers love child. Jolly was getting 6-10min game time and was rightly frustrated. I think DJ wasn't popular either and there were a few happy to see him gone.... -
Thats a good deal. What's the card rate for all of that?

Can anyone explain why we need a goal square any more? It seems superfluous now.... -
Rockaria Song by Electric Light Orchestra Lyrics Just got back from the downtown Palais Where the music was so sweet It knocked me right back in the alley I'm ready, yea, yea, yea, I'm ready Wo, wo, wo, I'm ready And I'm really gonna rock tonight Sweet little lady sings like a songbird And she sings the opera like you ain't never heard But she ain't ready No, no, no, she ain't ready No, no, no, she ain't ready And she ain't gonna rock & roll She's sweet on Wagner I think she'd die for Beethoven She loves the way Puccini lays down a tune And Verdi's always creeping from her room

I understand there was a bit of a power struggle when the fitness guys opinions held sway over the medical staff. The medical staff resigned over it. Might have been egos but nonetheless it was an inauspicious start. It seems to have gone pretty well since then although there are some notable injury SNAFUs with Viney, Trengove, McDonald and Vandenburg.

The turning point was after the Sydney game in round 21. It was a disgraceful game and we were outcoached terribly. Things had to change. To his credit he changed them and the team hasn't looked back.

He won't do anything. This is a bloke that has been dropped by every coach he has had at a professional level. He even dropped himself! He has had more kicks up the backside, line-in-the-sand opportunities than many footballers get but he doesn't change. and he won't.

Watts had his only decent finish in the Melbourne B&F in 2016, coming 5th. His speech was embarrassing "I'm usually down there drinking free [censored], I should try harder" to paraphrase. Comes back for the start of 2017 and is promptly dropped from the JLT games due to skin folds/attitude/work rate - take your pick. At season end Goodwin says 'get rid of this bloke'. Finishes his first year at Port in 21st place in their B & F. Lurid text messages are posted late in 2018 and now this stupid video. He has talent but no desire. It's pretty common. Those here that were railing against Watts going (@bobby_mackenzie etc) look pretty stupid now. Watts is a waste of space as a footballer. A ripping bloke from all reports but frankly who cares. I am glad the Dees made the hard call. It was always the right thing to do.
