  1. It's almost unheard of to promote a rookie and not play him immediately, otherwise there is no point in promoting him. He'll play and good luck to him, his rise over the last few weeks has been somewhat meteoric.

You're on fire this week bub. Completely agree, good post.
  3. Announced this morning. So much for every man and his dog with his "sauce" at Carlton claiming he already had the job.
  4. Absolutely, I completely agree.
  5. You might be right. RRE on Demonology insists that when you promote a rookie you are required to put them on a 2 year contract. If that's true then Warnock is contracted for 2008.
  6. There could not be a worse possible time than now for a board spill. Imagine that; no coach and no board to choose one. It would be true anarchy; the club would be out of control with nobody at the wheel. No thanks.
  7. The idea of trading Green in particular is ludicrous. He's one of the few in our side at the moment that are able to hit a target by foot.
  8. I'll have to agree to disagree there, I think. It does count for plenty. If a team thinks they can push you around and physically intimidate you then they get a psychological edge. It's no coincidence that in grass roots footy you often see the sides that are most successful are the sides with the highest proportion of thugs in their side. It's all well and good to say "just be a bigger man and walk away" but in a game where psychology and confidence play such a vital role I think there's a lot to be gained by standing up for yourself when you're put under physical stress by the opposition.
  9. Er what? Who said that? I'm not suggesting anyone whack the bloke which is what Davey did, which was dumb, but at least let the opposition know that we won't be physically intimidated. Allowing yourselves to be pushed around is a quick route to regular thumpings. My point was -- which seems to have been completely missed -- was that he needed some backup against a raging moronic bogan giant, and didn't get any. I found that to be disappointing. Watch it again.
  10. He didn't look mean, he looked like he was about to piss himself. Take a look at the footage if you can.
  11. The ! means "not". You're agreeing with Rogue there
  12. If anyone has some footage of the game handy I invite you to look at this. It's early in the last quarter, Bell lays an illegal shepherd on Brogan and knocks him down. A few minutes later they pan back to these two players -- Brogan is towering over Bell ranting an raving, shaking his fists and pointing his finger, Belly looks like a school boy desperately trying to talk his way out of being beaten up by a school bully. If ever there was a need for a hard bodied senior player to go and stand up to an opposition player then this was it, instead Bell was left out to dry. Very disappointing.
  13. Agree Rhino. I think if anything Jones is a shining example of when weight loss is appropriate and beneficial. He's still probably our hardest body despite his age and he is running out games unlike last year. To use him as an example of someone who shouldn't have lost weight is warping reality.
  14. Pickett, Miller, Ferguson, Brown, Bizzell, Holland, Jamar, Chris Johnson, Godfrey, Ward, Warnock, Neville Excluding the rookies, these are the candidates for delisting at year's end. Some (Neville) are monties, while others (Godfrey) will almost certainly be offered new contracts. There's 12 names on that list. Given our year I wouldn't be surprised to see 8 gone.
  15. He was watching us get flogged. His freshest memory of a bad team playing was playing out right in front of him. Your team is always going to compare unfavourably in that light, rightly or wrongly. Throwaway comment from a boring commentator.
  16. If you know it should be merged with the other thread, why not post it there?
  17. How is it that all three of our emergencies for tomorrow played? Too bad if anyone does a hammy in the warmup tomorrow.
  18. Besides, Jamar and PJ are both playing.
  19. Agree, I've never understood that mentality. Seems petty to me.
  20. Who? That makes it about 17 times now Pickett is gone. If you're on the wrong side of 30 and you spend more time out of the senior side than in it due to form and fitness then you're pretty much stuffed.
  21. Spot on. PJ's name is etched in stone as #2 ruck at present. Jamar deserves one final shot at earning his place. I'm actually quite happy with selection.
  22. "Playing favourites" and "playing players out of position" are two of the lines that people who have very little depth of understanding of footy tote the most.
  23. Hey, I've seen the Dees play once in my life and it was a flogging at the hands of Geelong! Since the result of this game probably won't be much different I'm entitled to be selfish. With CJ, I've personally already made up my mind on what he has to offer, and I don't think it differs much from what our former senior coach seemed to think. I suspect you will get your wish of him playing again though.
