  1. They're still every bit as beatable.
  2. For me it's more than just premierships. It's about watching exciting young players begin promising careers. It's about getting excited when a forward kicks a freakish goal from the boundary line 50 metres out. It's about watching tough young bodies clear packs and belt the ball out of the middle. It's about watching a bloke take a courageous mark in the back half of the ground to prevent a certain goal, or chase down some pesky forward running in to an open goal 20 metres out. It's about screaming loudly at the end of the game when you know the players all put in 110% effort and we got up. I want a premiership as much as anyone. I want to taste that ultimate success too. But not at the expense of every other joy I get out of footy. To me, every loss cuts deep. I hate the thought of finishing last, or close to it. I'd prefer to see us get to the top through hard work, intelligent recruiting and gradual improvement. I think that would feel far less hollow than knowing we threw away seasons at a time just so we could improve our position in the draft.
  3. Great article Prof. Aaron Davey will be the next bearer.
  4. If I were going to boycott going to the footy it wouldn't be to go to the snow. It would be to go somewhere warm. I hate cold.
  5. Pardon? He is a defender and he has been played in the defensive 50. That's why he's always present to take the kickins.
  6. I have a very hard time justifying having Pickett in my "best 22" personally.
  7. It's mentioned in the thread. Neville, Weetra and Hayes are in the reserves this week.
  8. I think that was DD's point.
  9. Ruck coach is a part time position that would take up a few hours at worst a week. No club has a full time ruck coach as far as I'm aware, I know Sam wasn't doing it for any more than a few hours a week when he was at the club.
  10. I think his point is that the guys would be in the top 20 respected guys within the club.
  11. The problem is that there's better options for the wings. If he plays on the wings we've still got the same problem in that we've got with him playing at CHF anyway, because his delivery in to the forward 50 stinks. Currently there's vacancies in KPF and KPB posts but with Bate playing the way he is and Rivers to return and Frawley in the wings they're not going to be there for long. Miller's window of opportunity is closing fast.
  12. Agree. PJ has improved out of sight this year IMO; Bell always had it.
  13. I'll be there. Can't wait.
  14. Live on Southern Cross TV in to Tassie, delayed on 10's coverage.
  15. He was on here this time last year and was a good sport about things.
  16. Before the season might work, but I don't think in the middle of the season would. In fact, I suspect it was the cause of it failing in the first place. As footy got more professional, clubs didn't want their best players to represent for fear of injury. I can't see how that'd be any different now.
  17. I was born into a family of Collingwood (mother and brother) and Richmond (other brother and sister) supporters. My Dad was a British immigrant who took a passing interest in North, but preferred to watch grassroots footy live rather than the AFL on TV (in Tassie). Not sure what happened to me, -- perhaps it's just a curse -- but I've followed the Dees for as long as I can remember.
  18. Congratulations Jarka and Mrs Jarka. Very exciting! Hope fatherhood is as good to you as it has been to me so far. Your first?
  19. Sautner is the only one who you could even have the slightest cause to complain about and even then it's a pretty weak one. Newton has kicked a few bags in recent weeks, WITH Sautner in the side. I'd argue that playing along side hardened senior bodies like Liddell, Gallagher, Crowe et al is actually more beneficial for our young players than playing against top up players in a reserves side.
  20. The problem would be, if this format were adopted there'd need to be an ACT team otherwise there'd only be 7 teams. The alternative would be to merge Queensland with NT but both sides are strong enough to field a team in their own right. I like the idea that someone on here suggested (not sure who, sorry) of playing the series in two team divisions, and each year teams get promoted/relegated based on who won. The divisions might be something like this: Victoria vs WA (D1) SA vs NSW (D2) Qld vs NT (D3) Tas vs ACT (D4) Then the following year, if Victoria defeated WA and SA defeated NSW it'd be Victoria vs SA the next year etc... Then you'd never see the situation where the best teams are playing the worst and it'd be as even a competition as you could get. The series could be played after the AFL GF, then no clubs are risking their season by allowing their best players to play and the best players get an opportunity to play representative footy, something which doesn't exist now that the Irish series is gone. Even better would be to play a round-robin series of two four team divisions, however then you're forced to play more than one game and I doubt the clubs would go for that. I'd love to see this happen and I'd be barracking very hard for the Tassie side, even if they were uncompetitive against the better teams.
  21. Matt Burgan has named teams for all eight states and territories here. I'm glad somebody finally had the balls to research all the available players and come up with teams like that, rather than naming a cop-out "Allies" team. This would've been especially difficult with the ACT who had a total of 3 AFL listed players to choose from.
  22. Well, you certainly chose the route that leads to the biggest adventure! Welcome to the rollercoaster ride that is the Melbourne Footy Club. Please check your sanity at the door.
