  1. So if he doesn't play 250 games and win a few flags at captain, you *will* care that he wasn't nominated?
  2. What about the idea of not using it for the line/impact elements of LBW? I.e. the pitching, bounce, impact part of the LBW are just always set to "umpire's call", and the DRS can only be used to determine if the batsman hit it or not. I think this would solve the problem of the players overusing it (i.e. batsman like Cook and Watson seemingly believing that they are immune to getting out LBW), and it takes away the annoyance of LBW decisions being reversed all the time when it's a marginal call. LBW is the only way to get out in the game where the decision is not black and white, i.e. requires judgement from the umpire, so my view is to leave that judgement with the umpire. For everything else (caught, bowled, stumped, run out, the "I hit it" aspect of LBW), it's clear cut: you hit it or you didn't, you were over the line or you weren't etc; the DRS should be able to manage that quite sufficiently without creating the problematic grey areas we are currently seeing in LBW decisions.
  3. Big woop, he got chances? You have seen our side this year, right? And you've seen how we've fared for small forwards in the last 4 years? It is "big woop". Up until this match Byrnes had kicked 11.5, including 3.1 against GWS. He has kicked 111.88 for his career. I'm not "kissing his ass" or declaring him the second coming of Christ, but he is a decent small forward, who creates opportunities to score, usually kicks more goals than points, and clearly had an off day. He certainly isn't the devil incarnate as is being made out by you and others.
  4. Byrnes kicked 1.6 - terrible return no doubt, but it means he was in a position to score at least 7 times. We and he ought to expect better, but I don't think it is reasonable to be overly harsh. He could just as easily have walked away a hero tonight; more than can be said for most of our players in most of our other games. Anyway, we played ok and should have won. Amazing how that feels bearable these days; I guess it's all relative.
  5. We should rehire that guy who was our midfield coach in the early 00s. What was his name again?
  6. I like that Hogan as being rested for finals, just for the clear indication that it means they intend on playing him. Obviously in the past we've seen key players get pulled. Which other players are eligible for the finals? It would be good to see Fitzpatrick, Clisby et al get the opportunity to play finals since they were strong contributors to Casey's early season form.
  7. No. As an insider he's second rate, and he doesn't help with our biggest issue which is outside run. In a year where we've been screaming out for quality mids, two coaches have turned their back on him. He was worth the shot but I wouldn't keep him.
  8. I didn't comment on the attractiveness of the MFC coaching job.
  9. There must have been a deadline, i.e. the last week you can upgrade a rookie for a LTI, so it becomes a case of "might as well". Otherwise, I'm with you lot.
  10. Anyone care about the side? Davis and Jordie are in, Gawn and Toumpas out.
  11. Certainly plausible but not probable. I wouldn't think the Essendon job would look all that attractive at the moment; you wouldn't even know if they were playing for points next year or not. I know that outcome is extreme and unlikely, but my point is that you would have no idea what you were signing up for at Essendon, and Roos doesn't strike me as the sort to gamble with his potential coaching career.
  12. Imagine how many teams he'd be coaching if he *was* interested in coaching again!
  13. A pick in the 50s which we spent on Brad Miller.
  14. Dunno. He's been around for the entire 10 years I have and he's offered me great amusement over the years, especially early on.
  15. I was 19 when I started posting here. I was 22 when my first was born, and her grinning baby face was my avatar for years before the forum software wiped it in an upgrade two years ago, and I haven't bothered to replace it. I turn 30 later this year. I think that about tells the story :-)
  16. I would have thought the last thing we needed was players who are not dependable, no matter how occasionally classy they are.
  17. It's been demonstrated on this forum time and time again to the point where I reckon it's almost scientifically accepted: footy supporters can only remember the last week of footy that was played. GWS are rubbish and will not win another game. They beat us because we're just as rubbish, and their peak in form coincided with our trough. As you said, they're most likely going to be absolutely spanked in their run home.
  18. I have four kids, and I'm more fussy about grammar than ever.
  19. It's a risk and one the club must manage, but for mine it's not one worth raising a sweat over as a supporter. If we worry over every possible scenario that could happen over the next few years, we will never sleep again.
  20. Jack Martin signs contract extension and Jesse Hogan doesn't so Hogan must be gone. Isn't the Human brain amazing in how it can make logic jumps like that? When Hogan's contract expires in two years from now he'll have a nice Melbourne local girlfriend, will be living with a couple of his best mates that he'll have been playing footy with for 3 years, and will have had a taste of the absolute worship that will come with being a star footballer. Even if he's homesick now, if he still is by late 2015 I'll be staggered.
  21. 3 out of our best 5 players are still on the list.
  22. We're crap. Is that an excuse or a reason? I can no longer tell the difference after all these years on Demonland.
