He'd die for it, but he wouldn't play in it for a mean old coach who wanted him to try new roles? Okie dokie. Edit: Sorry - didn't see Little Goffy's post, which says the same thing. So yeah, what he said.

If you're going to give up on the possibility of picking a star because "they could become a slow flanker", then enjoy watching a side that finishes 6-14 for the rest of eternity. If we took that attitude, we might as well just fold now. Of course there's a risk that you might get a not-much-better-than-average player at #2. Surely taking that risk is a no-brainer though, given the potential reward?

I raised this in a discussion with a Richmond supporting mate, when he got cranky when I said I hope their mob got flogged by Carlton and he said something along the lines of "the forever struggling clubs should stick together". I nearly threw up. Excluding GWS (because they haven't got any fans so nobody gets hurt), if you go back through recent history, the only team in the last 20 years to have percentage worse than ours this year was Fitzroy in 1996. Even the disastrous Fitzroy teams of 1994 and 1995 had a better percentage than us this year. The diabolical Carlton sides in the mid 00s managed percentages in the high 60s, low 70s. No other team has had to endure the gravity and regularity of the beltings that we've suffered in the last two years in particular. It's amazing we're all still here talking about it. This is why I'm absolutely stoked to have the best coach in the business at the helm, even if it's only for a couple of years. Despite the gumbies on BigFooty moaning about AFL assistance or that Roos is only in it for the money (I don't follow this logic btw), we are clearly the worst side of the modern era and we desperately need help. With the right foundations in place we'll be able to move forward with a good coach like Simpson, Tudor etc, but we need the best of the best to get the foundations in place first. I still can't wipe the smile off my face this morning. Like anything, Roos doesn't come with any guarantee of success, but at least we can be confident that if we can't get ourselves out of this hole it's not because we made a poor selection of senior coach.

Yes - I've been trying to avoid mass hyperbole, but I don't think I can help it any more. I've felt like I've been in mourning since 186 (hence having '186' as my custom title), and now I finally feel like I might be able to start moving on. I think the new title is appropriate. Here's a bag for anyone I've nauseated.

Casey Scorpions v Werribee Tigers - VFL First Semi Final

Why? -
Pick 2 might become a star. I can't understand why anyone would want to trade "might be a star" for "certainly isn't a star".

Who were the eight Dees that Roos spoke to?
Nasher replied to Deespicable's topic in Melbourne Demons
McKenzie and Byrnes are also in the leadership group. -
Three years is ages. Who knows who will be the next big assistant by then? I agree with WYL, let's just focus on the Roos era for now.

Do you try and go against the grain on purpose or something? All year you were telling us everything was going to plan when we were clearly up to our eyeballs in dung, then when the best news that we've heard in arguably decades hits, you're the one person going "meh, I'll reserve judgement" when everyone else is doing cartwheels.

Give us a hug, Stu. Once in a lifetime opportunity - I'm clean!

I step in to the shower when Paul Roos isn't coach. When I get out, Roos is coach. I should shower more often.

I love a good Lynden bag-fest as much as anyone, but surely there's a time and a place for it. Well done on the B+F finish and a consistent year under trying circumstances.

Since we did a hardware upgrade a few months ago the site's hardly blinked, even with Neeld happening and so on. You can never be 100% sure but I'm pretty damn confident you can all do your worst at slamming the site and it'll hold up.
-
If by the site you mean Demonland, I'll take that bet. What are you putting up?

I had him on my "good player playing crud footy under a crud coach" list. He seemed to have a lightbulb moment and worked out that he had to stand up and show the bloody way because nobody else would. From then on he reached a new level and didn't sway from it.

It's one thing to be paranoid, it's another to abuse someone based on your own delusion.

Paul Roos would just edit the post and post something my 5 year old would say.No wait, that's me that would do that. :D

Deep down I think all of us suffer from at least a little MFCSS and at some level, still instinctively believe the worst news. Or we're so on edge that we'll just believe anything anyone says.

Yep, amazing how my brain instantly knew he was kidding but my heart sank anyway and I felt a stab in the guts. This is killing me. I don't think I'm going to make it to Tuesday.

Casey Scorpions v Werribee Tigers - VFL First Semi Final
Nasher replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes. It's the second tier comp and still a good achievement. Nice to see most of the key Casey players will play this week. Should make a huge difference to their fortunes you would think. -
If you're an MFC fan and you're not excited by this, you are broken beyond redemption. Quit now before your mental health deteriorates any further.

Unless Roosy is going to play in the midfield, I still want the PP.

Leave Clint Bizkit out of this!

Agreed. In regards to what other footy fans think, my skin has turned to elephant hide in the last 5 years. I just say "whatever you reckon, flogs. You've got no idea what this has felt like."

Woah woah woah! Let's not do anything rash, jr. Just calm down and take a deep breath...
