If only we could bring back Bailey. I think we're worse now than we have been the last 4 years!
-
What old leaders? There are none left, that's half the problem!

I can't believe it's come to this. We are a weak club and have gone steadily backwards onfield for nearly two years now. People can talk about giving a players or a coach time to get used to a new gameplan, but the players don't how a hunger for the contest or a desire to win. That requires no training, that is purely attitude. We are now below GWS and GC, who both have younger and less experienced lists than us. That says a lot about how sh*t we really are. This is the worst I have felt in decades supporting the MFC. If we don't fix themselves onfield soon, we will lose more of the new generation of supporters. This has already begun. Kids want to see exciting players and go for a winning team. We are losers, and we have no stars for kids to look up to, and thus they are not supporting us anymore. FOR F*CKS SAKE SHOW SOME HUNGER AND WORK TOGETHER.

Not an issue going by the past few weeks. I'd go as far as saying he's been one of the best tacklers in the team recently. He's one of the few that's stuck the tackle and forced a stoppage. Previously he wouldn't go as heart and have an arm swatted away. Hopefully he keeps it up and turns into the player we hoped. His first year is still one of the best ever by a Demon in the last 30 years or so.

Patrick Dangerfield ... Let's get him!
Lord Travis replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
I was saying on here we should be trying to get him across. He is literally the perfect footballer to fill our greatest needs. Grunt at contests, pace for breaking from stoppages and spreading into space, and goal kicking ability from both midfield and can rest/be thrown forward. Give up first rounder picks, get him across and pop him straight into the leadership group. Kid leads by example. Injecting him and Viney directly into the midfield gives us more grunt, pace, and skill. It would be a perfect way to develop a stalling midfield. -
Jeez it's getting really hard supporting such a [censored] team with no light at the end of the tunnel.
-
Our midfield is pathetic. Can't believe Gysberts got injured again too.
-
Why does he need to earn it MORESO THAN OTHERS? The players should all be judged equally. What draft pick or how you came onto our list is irrelevant. Watts cops so much stick from the media, opposition supporters, and even our own it seems. It's downright ridiculous. He had a poor game last week, other than that he has been one of our best thus far this year. While that isn't saying much, he sure as [censored] didn't deserve to be dropped ahead of others. Today he played on the wing and picked up 20 touches and 4 goals. That's a great return. He should be playing at Melbourne next week and the remainder of the year. No point him sitting in the VFL and performing well. We get nothing out of it. If he isn't back in the team next week, then we can write off Neeld and the new coaching panel as fools. They've done a great job so far Again, well done to Casey on their good win today. Great turn around from that horrible day last year. Shame about some of those injuries!
-
Any news on the Gysberts injury? Yet another first round pick with heaps of talent missing games. We must be the unluckiest club going around. Watts, Gysberts, Jurrah, Blease, Petterd, all playing at a lower level, yet have more talent than nearly all their counterparts playing for Melbourne this week. It's a sad state of affairs at the moment. Well done to Casey today. Sounds like a very solid win!
-
Watts, Jurrah, Gysberts, Blease, Viney all playing for Casey this week. This match is a far more exciting prospect than the Melbourne match this week and this saddens me.
-
I want to see them show some fight and not get belted. I don't expect them to win, but for f*cks sake fight it out until the end at least. We all throw our hard earned money at you every year, we come sit there in the cold and wet to watch you play, all we want in return is for you try your asses off. You are professional footballers, you get paid to do this, so leave nothing in the tank by the end and have some pride. Winning would be great, but it seems beyond this group at the moment. Just please please PLEASE fight.
-
We can play him, but since he wasn't listed as an emergency we would cop a fine. From memory it's something like $8,000-10,000? Doubt it's worth it to rush him back when he isn't right AND cop a hefty fine in doing so.
-
Frawley and Clark are our two most important players IMO. They are the rock of the forward and backlines, the strong bodies, the confidence, the generals. Having them both out this week will be disastrous!
-
Watts is going well this year. He might even sneak our Best and Fairest if he remains consistent.

We'd have noone on the list then

It's a sad state when the team is deflated that easily. Watts has been one of our most reliable players this year. It's at the stage now when whenever we get the ball I want it in his hands because he seems to be the only player in the team who can consistently hit a target. The thing that killed us today (other than the umpires) were terrible turnovers. Guys like Macdonald, Mcdonald, Garland, Bartram were all constantly turning it over off half back. It as probably a combination of poor skills and lack of decent options upfield. It is our main problem at the moment though.

Travis Johnstone joins Chelsea Heights
Lord Travis replied to fatmanblues's topic in Melbourne Demons
Despite not fulfilling the promise his talent made, he was still a better footballer than anyone else to pull on the Red n Blue jumper since the turn of the century. And while I loved him as a player, I think that says more about how poor we've been as a club. Miss TJ and more successful times. -

Not only that, he'd be our best player -

Still the best player to pull on the jumper in the last 10 years. If only we had players of his class still on the list, we'd be in a far better place than we are now. -
The next generation of younger Dees supporters
Lord Travis replied to Maldonboy38's topic in Melbourne Demons
Being poor recently has effected our young supporter base whether people like it or not. We have unfortunately lost 2 young Melbourne supporters in the last year. I buy the young relatives in my family Melbourne memberships and jumpers. Last year, one of them decided they go for Geelong now. Even though we have tried to convince him otherwise, and he wears his Melbourne jumper to games, he said he was sick of being teased at school and Melbourne "just lose all the time and they're boring". The other one recently decided they go for Hawthorn because "Hawthorn always win and Buddy is the best". Hopefully we can sway them back with time, but Melbourne being down the bottom of the ladder is costing it supporters, and therefore money. We need to start performing, because the longer we're down, the worse off we are long term too. It's kind of sad that it's come to this. People pay us out ahead of Richmond and Freo now. We stand for nothing. We are a poor club on and off the field. Let's hope we can turn it around very soon. -
I'd throw compo picks at Adelaide to get Dangerfield across. Is explosive, strong, can play inside and out, kick goals, and is a definite leader. He is literally the perfect player to add to our list, so I'd be throwing everything we have to get him across. Adding him and Viney to our midfield is a big injection of talent.

Love the Cats. They're my second team, and they're a pleasure to watch. The style and skill they brought to the game from 2007 onwards has been fantastic, and we can thank them for getting away from ugly boring stoppage footy. Watching the Dees this past 5 years has been painful, and if it weren't for the Cats I don't think I'd even watch footy anymore to be honest. Watching games like the one today really show you how far off the pace we are from the top teams. It's like we're not even playing the same game! Jimmy Bartel is a legend too. He stands up in the big games every single time. I think he's the best big game player I've seen in 20+ years. Just always takes the mark to stem the tide, kick the goal to snatch a lead, burrow into a pack and get the vital clearance. He is a superstar and my fav current player. Trengove has similar qualities, and I'm hoping for our sake he turns out like Bartel.
-
I think it's the opposite. Our supporters are loyal and fierce. We've wiped off over five million dollars in debt, and we've stuck by the club through hard times. We have eternal hope. It's the outside perception unfortunately that more reflects the facts. The fact is that we are a weak club on and off the field, so we get targeted. We haven't won a flag since 1964, and we don't look like winning one soon. I hope to god we come good, I need to see a flag in my lifetime! But currently, we have a long way to go in every facet of the club, and that's why we find ourselves in this lowly position.
-
It's because we have talent on our list, we just never develop it properly. The other reason we get targeted is because we're a weak club both on and off the field. We're an easy target. Who would want to play with us when they get offered more money and a better culture elsewhere?
