Wouldn't touch Goddard at this stage of his career. He's late 20's and won't be around when we're decent again. Not only that he isnt a good leader for our kids. He's a hot-head who still hasn't learnt to shake a tag and just cracks the shits. He doesn't fit into our list at all. He hasn't played good football in over a year. We need to look for midfielders who are early-mid 20s. Goddard is too old, and not good enough anymore.

Cam Bruce # 32 announces retirement from AFL.
Lord Travis replied to gsmith12's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sometimes this place is pathetic. Cam Bruce is one of our best players for the last 10-15 years. He gave MFC many years of good service and deserves the respect of each and every one of us supporters. If you're going to write something negative in here, don't bother. It only shows what a disrespectful fool you are. Thank you Cam for many great memories. You were one of our best mids for years, kicked a few bags, did some great shutdown jobs on legends like Hird, and won us many games. Enjoy retirement and hopefully you return to the club in some capacity in the years to come.- 101 replies

We had to trade Jolly because he wanted more game time and we couldn't give it to him. It was either him or Jeff White, who was AA ruckman at the time. We made the right call there. Our midfield has been shocking again today. We need an injection of class there through either draft or trading real quick!
-
Bails kicking is enough for me to say delist him. Provides nothing. Bennels effort is shocking. As one of our few players with pace it's so frustrating to see poor work ethic and not using his strengths!
-
Toumpas would be brilliant. We need class, skill, and a bit of pace in the midfield. He provides this and is noted for his leadership also. We're building a good young group of leaders now and he'd add to that. Undecided on our other early pick if we get the benefit of using it on someone other than Viney. I don't believe Stringer fits our team, and he's had injury problems and hasn't performed at the level required for a first round ick in a while now. We need pure mids, enough with utility players. Not sure who the other best midfield options are other than Whitfield and Wines. Would love to grab a small forward like kennedy or Garlett with our mid first round pick if we can. We desperately need some pace, agility, crumbing and defensive pressure up forward. This should be next priority after quality mids.
-
Does this lower his trade value do we can grab him cheaper? :D
-
Would love him at the Dees. Not sure why he isn't getting a game this year, but his first two year have been good. He has had big impact on a number of games I've seen him play, has pace to burn, crumbs and snaps well, and even roamed up the ground all the way to half back to provide run when needed. I'd give up anything after pick 20 for him. People overrate draft picks. What's our 2nd rounder? Low 20s? Deal done. Small forward with great pace sorted for 10 years.

May as well redraft Luke Molan

Reckon he is good down back, average in the ruck, poor up forward. Good depth going forward, great for the pick we got him with!

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
Lord Travis replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't take any notice of BnF's to be honest. If a player fulfills his role, then he scores higher than someone who performed better but didn't perform their set role as well. Johnstone won the BnF in 2005, then improved and had his best ever season in 2006, yet he didnt go near it in the BnF despite having a better year and being Melbournes best performed player. He always got judged harshly, as Watts does now. Strangely enough he got judged harshly by supporters, where as opposition and media were surprised he didnt make All Australian that year etc. We're a strange bunch us Melbourne supporters... Anyhoo it does go to show our lack of stars over the last two decades. In that time our best mids off the top of my head have been Johnstone, Yze, Woewodin, Tingay, Viney, Bruce for a period, Mclean for a period. We havent had an out and out star who consistently performed. We need a few in the midfield as it's clearly our weakness. Viney will hopefully bring his hard at it approach and work ethic inside in packs. We should draft a quick classy outside mid to compliment him. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
Lord Travis replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
Travis Johnstone is still unarguably the best midfielder to play for our club in my lifetime. He's underrated by Melbourne supporters who are bitter he didn't live up to what they hoped for, but also shows the lack of superstars we've had at the club in the last few decades. -
None of our players would make it at present. NicNat would be nowhere near it either. Goddard wouldn't make it either. He's a shadow of the player he was two years ago. Maybe Lewis Jetta gets a run somewhere? He has been superb this year IMO

"Don't go to the snow, come see Scully" - Sheedy
Lord Travis replied to H_T's topic in Melbourne Demons
Definitely want him ironed out. I want him physically harmed. He needs to know that walking out on this club has ramifications that he will feel for the rest of his football career. He made his choice, now he should deal with the consequences. We need to have a big win, and we need to flatten Scully as a statement. If we don't do both those, I will be disappointed in the club. -

Hoping we belt them. Also hoping Scully is completely wiped out, even if it's unfairly and our player cops a suspension for it. I want him, and anyone else, to know that if you walk out on us, we will hurt you, and make sure you're never right again. -
Stevens is an average midfielder who can't get a game. He will not solve any of our problems, and we shouldn't bother going after him unless we get him for nothing eg 3rd round pick. We need classy star midfielders, of which he is neither.
-
Cook did the same last week. Kicked 3 goals in the first half then didn't feature in the second half. This week 4 in the first half then none in second half. It's great to see his form improving, but does he still need to gain a lot of fitness before an AFL call up? Great win the Casey today. Always good to win the tight ones!
-
We have enough talls. We need quality mids. You could put Lance Franklin in our forward line at the moment and it would barely make a difference. The ball has to get down there enough first, and it needs to get down there with decent delivery coming in. The midfield is what we need to address.

Patrick Dangerfield ... Let's get him!
Lord Travis replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
The problem is we can't grow our own. We haven't for decades. None of those above players will be more than b graders at our club. It kills me to say it, but that's the reality of the situation. We need to trade in proven stars. -
Looks like he has OP. He cannot push off and accelerate and he has no penetration in his kicking. Some of his set shots this year have been embarrassing. He's my favorite player, but he is definitely playing injured. If he weren't captain and we weren't on the ass end of the ladder, he'd be resting or running round in the VFL.

Message from the President...
Lord Travis replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
I've been patient. I've given them far more money and support than they deserve. I'm sick of waiting just to even be competitive and out of the bottom chunk of the ladder. This rebuild better be successful or the MFC may have just killed itself. -
I've been saying on here we should get him since last year. He's a proven midfield gun with grunt and pace, everything we need in a midfielder at this point in time. He is the prototype player going forward, and we could build an entire team around him as our marquee player. I'd pay him a million a year and trade first rounders to get him as he is a proven gun. People over-rate draft picks. No point picking up potential guns if we can't develop them. I'd take a proven gun over a draft pick any day, even if it was Pick 1. Time to start trading for established players and hope we can net some like we did Mitch Clark. Problem for us now though is Adelaide are playing well now and he's less likely to leave. He's a leader there, and probably their next captain. Why leave that to go from top to bottom? And that is the problem we will face when trying to recruit anyone at the end of this year.

We've only kicked 2 goals. This could be our lowest score? Such a pathetic club at present. It's so frustrating and draining supporting this rabble
-
We need a new midfield. Even sure stars like Trengove are now performing poorly. Until we change the personnel through the middle we will not win a game. This is so unbelievably frustrating to watch. I can't remember us being worse than this and it's killing me
-
It'd be nice if we could kick a goal tonight!
