  1. All of the above, plus the G. Lyon barrel in PF at Waverley 1988 - last happy footy moment of that year. Also, the T. Viney opener at the start of the 1987 EF against North - our first finals goal since Froggie's, and the first of a torrent for the day.
  2. I guess my point was more that Moloney had it within himself to continue his B&F form, or indeed improve. He has had plenty of games, and been given different roles when his early season efforts appeared under-whelming. He is in his physical prime, and has disappointed.
  3. Beg to differ. Moloney has had ample opportunity this year to extend his range beyond finger-pointing at ball-ups, kicking floaters down the ground under no particular pressure, and running on the spot on the outside of packs. I get the sense that Neeld will back anyone who has a red-hot crack, and Brent as the reigning B&F was in the perfect position to demonstrate his leadership wares to the new coach. A point of comparison is Chunk, who has just done the business and gone to the next level. I don't think "being in favour" has anything to do with it - except that "being in favour" equates to "being with the program" and going hard at it. On that score, I back the ones who are in favour, and am happy to see the back of those who aren't.
  4. This. Was there with my cousin under "Mickey's box" on the outer wing. When the siren went, it was like a huge release of pent-up emotion - people yelling to the sky, stomping their feet, with their hands waving above their heads. Extraordinary. Went to the G the next week expecting a thrashing, only to see us hand one out. Viney's mark and play on for the opening goal was memorable and thrilling - it was right in front of me, and he was such a tish-house kick that my immediate reaction was horror when he played on.
  5. Pyongyang's not so bad if you can get in with the right crowd, and the water would have to be better than Adelaide's...
  6. "What - me worry?"
  7. Good question - wondering that myself.

    Round 23

I was far more bullish - it was three quarter time in that match for me.
  9. You missed Sunday's game?
  10. Stevie Armstrong and Clay Sampson say hi!
  11. So now, it is widely disseminated that we apparently tanked against St Kilda in r22 of 2009. Sure - the bottom side deliberately losing against a team that won the first 19 games, on its way to the GF. And Mr "Leisure" Lane on 3AW is now telling us that we did the same against Carlton in late 2009 - they led at every change and won by about 10 goals! Sheesh...
  12. Agree. He is leadership in action. Let's hope that the younger players can follow his example to develop a better culture, as well as better performance.
  13. "Let a hundred flowers bloom, let a hundred schools of thought contend". (Chairman Mao) And if you reckon the good Chairman didn't know squat about footy, he's also quoted with "Power comes out of the barrel of a Tappy torp".
  14. 6. Martin 5. Jones 4. Tom McDonald 3. Sylvia 2. Trengrove 1. Joel Macdonald Kudos to Greeny for a good return. Jordie and Grimesy also good.

    Black Caviar

To me, she looked the most highly strung pre-race that I have seen her, and I have seen all but two of her Melbourne efforts. Usually calm and relaxed, today she even kicked out in the parade ring. She just didn't seem to be herself - and she should have been many lengths clear of Soul , for example, in her normal form.

Apparently O'Brien's son, Joseph, who rides SYT, suggested to the old man that the horse be trained to take advantage of his turn of foot, rather than building endurance. Let's see how that plan has worked.

Fortunate enough to be there, HT. Wow!!! BC in the 2011 Lightning was awesome, but today was eye-popping. The "disadvantage" BC has in this comparison with other stars is her relative fragility. UK commentators are saying that a smart bet is BC at > 5 lengths, but to me that doesn't reflect an understanding of the management of the horse. To Moody's credit, he does what has to be done, and doesn't push her to the limit. One of the leading jumps trainers said he couldn't wait to see her, as he couldn't believe that a sprinting mare could come in from the paddock at more than 600 kgs, way more than his sturdy top jumpers.
  18. I think it's 4-2. LG, hats off to you though for erasing 2000 from the memory. The other was 1946.

    'ology

Sorry, I was too cryptic. Where is Greg Healy, who has been on the board for months?
  20. That was pretty much my take-away. As game progressed, esp from midway through 2nd quarter, I thought we were a chance, but those missing quality mids made it too much of a hurdle.
  21. Never mind Le Cras not getting a gig with his 58, what about Robbo in 2005 not getting a place with 73, while Brad Johnson (everyone's mate) gets in with 42. Some of us have long memories......

Well, our own MFC doesn't have a full list of current directors on its website; unlike the 'ology volunteers, there are people at MFC who are paid to attend to such "front of shop" stuff.
  23. A "reverse Scully" clause, DC.
