  1. All power to Kyle in working his way back from such a dreadful position.
  2. Agree. So far have only seen the Port game, and the two bits that I liked the best were Lucas Cook and the continued development of Jack Watts. Apart from the poise shown by LC there was mobility and the ability to get involved, albeit only in a cameo way at the moment. Also liked Neville Jetta's game. From the start he has shown he has an interesting box of tricks, but I wondered whether he was quick enough to make a significant impact at his height; as he develops he seems to be showing that his smarts and poise could make him a useful contributor. Dan Nicholson also showed a bit for a first game with no real pre-season.
  3. Interesting read from the Amateur Hour days. From being a trend-setter under previous administrations, our club had sunk to a low ebb. Exhibit A for this proposition - Dr Duffy offering commiserations to Collingwood for narrowly losing the 1971 Grand Final.
  4. Opening seconds of Swans match. Jamie Bennell puts on the jets on boundary line on outer wing, burns off Malceski and delivers the ball at the feet of Lynden Dunn on the goal line. Set the agenda.
  5. Barry Brooks came to mind - let's give Luke Molan a break...
  6. Going back a bit - Robert Walters kicked 9 in his 13th game, including 6 in a quarter, against Essendon, the week after we were mega-hammered by Fitzroy in 1979. The team didn't go on with it for a few years after that resilient winning effort, and neither did young Robbie. Although he did kick 7 in the return bout with Fitzroy, r.1 1980. Similar playing profile to Darren Cuthbertson.

I believe we won the Reserve Grade premiership that day, which could explain relevance of banner.
  9. What he said......
  10. Like to watch him play. He reminds me, more than any other player I can remember, of the great Robbie Flower in the way he moves.
  11. Well done Junior - a career of class, great work ethic and achievement. One thing that sticks in my mind is that Nathan Buckley at the end of his career named his Top 10 Hard Players that he played against - and you were one of them, at 180cm and 75kg.
  12. Fantastic - good result and recognition, and great post. To quote a luminary from another club, at least you can say "I did something" that had an impact.
  13. Absolutely - I wouldn't pull your leg over that.
  14. Good to note that dandeemans's original post here was reproduced on the table mats everyone had at the DD dinner last night. Recognition for the Post of the Year!
  15. Saw article the other day that said it was being redeveloped, opening scheduled for Grand Final weekend. There was a football personality involved, but can't remember who it was.

Memory tricked me - but JF was certainly in the vicinity when the heat was on. And M. Warnock was a comrade-in-arms at that end of the ground.

Indeed - and defenders usually find themselves being sent back to the salt mines of full back for MISSING goals, not for kicking them ....

The Jordan McMahon game vs Richmond last year he was thereabouts. Kicked one of the late goals that got us in front on the siren as I recall. Ricky P kicked the other?
  19. Mine arrived - thanks to all concerned!
  20. Wrong question. It should be: is the mix of the player's fitness/quality better than the next best option - a fit NQR player. It's not black and white. I would still take MB at the moment as he approaches full fitness after injury over anyone else I can see at the club for his role.
  21. ....with us!
  22. The #5 - Gysberts?
  23. Any thoughts on Jordie McKenzie? Similar impact as Big Jack, but without triggering a reminisce?
  24. No worries, SS. I've personally sorted this one, and guaranteed a low output from the current no. 12 this year. Just put a small wager on him for the Brownlow at 500/1 with Sportsbet. This should ensure some form of major injury, in line with my only other venture in this type of betting - a bet on his fellow 2003 high pick draftee B. McLean in 2007. Twenty minutes before the season opener against StKilda, and about 50 minutes before he stuffed his ankle for the bulk of the season. At least this time my "investment" has stayed live for a bit longer. For the record, I recognise some of the lack of fulfillment in Col's cv before last season, but reckon he is starting to put things together such that there is a chance he may realise the potential that he showed as a junior. As long as hard work and good management continues. Btw, I don't think that lack of pace is an issue.
  25. This should be a good night, with some funds flowing to the club on an occasion where MFC is front and centre in the AFL public eye, with 4 top 18 picks including picks 1 & 2. It has some similarity to the Demonland/Demonology player sponsorship events that have been held over recent years, with Craig Cameron and Barry Prendergast, and is a bit cheaper (although without a specific player contact event as well). Get behind it. Sure beats not having anything on the night!
