  1. Joeboy - excellent return sir!
  2. 6.Watts 5.Jones 4.Garland 3.Grimes 2.Nicholson 1.Rivers Honourable mention to Beamer who belied his "flat track bully" tag - well done! Like This Quote MultiQuote
  3. Bingo! And special mention to Jumpin Jack for his 1979 research re win against Essendon the week following Fitzroy annihilation.
  4. Oops! Meant 1966, and have now corrected. When you're as young as I am, 1965 seems the same as 1342!
  5. I've had my clerk's visor on, assiduously poring through mountains of records looking for an omen against this particular enemy. Eureka! Round 7 1966 - a winless Melbourne shows a bit for the first time for 3 quarters against C'wood in round 6 at Vic Park before getting blown away in final quarter. Plays reigning premier Essendon next week and wipes the floor with them. Follow the form!
  6. 6 - Jones 5 - McKenzie 4 - Rivers 3 - McDonald 2 - Frawley 1 - Bail
  7. These two teams over the last decade or so have had something of a record of having upsets - we beating them when we were down (or as per 2000 QF), and who can forget the two damaging losses they gave us in 2006. Let's hope for the return of the upset.
  8. Stevie J - smarts, excitement, damaging.
  9. C. Sylvia could line up as well. And "come on down" Luke Molan.
  10. Also liked his closing speed in the last quarter on Amos Frank.

James McDonald the best of that clan.

We are blessed to have 2 such extraordinary mares (filly) at the same time. Atlantic Jewel has made a star like Mosheen look second rate. VVS Horses!
  14. I think that was the point being made.
  15. Another left-footer - Big Bob Johnson. Let's hope there are plenty now serving their apprenticeship: J. Howe, J. Watts, J. Trengove, L. Jurrah for starters.
  16. RIP Jim - an inspirational life.
  17. I think recent history (at least) has shown that we have a poor record in developing players. Richmond probably not the best to measure against in that regard though, given their lack of success in the same area.

Yeah, and Jesus was a dud because it took him 3 days to rise from the dead.
  19. I was in a situation season before last where I was with a small number of people with the player group. Off his own bat, Chip came over to me, shook my hand, introduced himself and welcomed me. I thought it showed outstanding personal qualities. Mix that with a tough, skilful on-field presence and you have a couple of essential leadership ingredients. Any polishing of personal style (if needed) is the easy part.

    When was that?

Absolutely agree - over-rated, soft-c**k mare. Why didn't Moody put her in against that one that won the Newmarket last year in the fastest ever time, with an all-time weight carrying record for a mare to boot. Or the one that has by numerous defeats in Group 1's broken the heart of Hay List (in the handful of best sprinters in the world). Or the one that buckled at the start of its 4th run, hitting the ground and still winning against a class field, despite tearing its chest muscles at the beginning of the race. The one rated last year by overseas experts as the best horse in the world. Wait a minute...that was Black Caviar. Don't care if Usain Bolt can't win gold over the 3000m steeple. He's the best. Ditto, BC deserves her accolades as a sprinter of the very highest quality.
  22. Thought he was good in heavy traffic in midfield; seemed to get a knock in the thigh with a late tackle. Agree about Lucas Cook - showing some good development as a key forward work-in-progress.
  23. Always liked the number 12 in this category, with 2 champions of the game + a terrific player in Todd Viney, and hopefully another star if Col can take his game to where it should be. Adding Alan La Fontaine to #17 gives it a lift, as too for #16 adding Bob Johnson snr, and Pete Townsend's brother John. Number 35 has its moments, for a high number.
  24. Second sentence correct, but the DC comet shot across the sky in 91, as I recall. He got a bag at Waverley against C'wood; they had belted us previous year at the G, and strangely, some of their players opined in the press after the game that we seemed soft. In the 91 game, the Feral supporters kept parroting this early on - it was very annoying. When DC took a screamer over Gayfer in the last quarter with the Demons in charge, I really enjoyed asking the question "Hey Darren, did his back feel soft?"
  25. Yeah - I couldn't figure the AD bit. He was way off the pace in the time trials, as bad as he was in games last year with his speed (compared to his early days). I recall him having injury issues, but would have expected him to be either in the rehab group doing laps, or doing a lot better compared to some big-framed guys there today.
