  1. Those who will play Soccer, will play Soccer. This year we are likely to see less than 70 live draft selections. This is the future. Teams will cast their nets across wiser seas in the desire to select footballer who have shown real ability , playing the proper game as opposed 'skills' whilst kidding around in the hybrid version. I think this will continue and with the likelihood of 10 or so of even these picks being used for elevations I can see a future whereby less players are drafted than was the previous norm. To address this the criteria must change. If you look at how many actually remain in the system as opposed who has been drafted in prior seasons i dont think raising the age will cause any drying up of talent at all. If anything it will help to weed out the imposters. I dont think anyone is suggesting a wholesale lifting by say 2-3 years, just a tinkering of a year to 18 months ( latter my preference) so as to get the youths over their educational hurdles and have actually lived as young adults if even for a short period
  2. I essentially agree, but there has to be criteria of sorts otherwise a club could throw any old piece of rubbish dressed up as an offer and cry foul should it not be taken up. Not saying its the case here but not too far away either. A 1 year deal on so so money ?? v a longer term offer from any number of other clubs An argument for restriction of trade could gather legs possibly on that basis.. Where I agree RPFC is the whole FA , DFA anything and everything else has dissolved into a schmozzle . The AFL were originally taking it all down one path and then the AFLPA hijacked it down another. its all over the place and yet we got more than decent compo for that #8 bloke and have been able to pick up for nix another . There are definitely inequities that need correcting as you suggest.
  3. forever the optimist I see
  4. Just asking...might this be because it's now OFFICIAL training and those not on the list would need permission ?
  5. youre assuming he HAS to play seniors in 15. I think we'll see a lot more development in the magoos for the noobs from here on in. if they show they have it , theyll play, otherwise its learn the trade kid !!
  6. ridiculoulsly obvious isnt it
  7. but he didnt and the PSD is a dinosaur ( now ) from the pre FA era
  8. its ok...they got Sam!!!
  9. I reckon youd find Viney and Roos are on the same page.... Roos cleaned out a bit of staff on arrival..he wanted Viney to stay. If you look at the hawthorn model of list building and Roos' they are that dissimilar really, not mirrors but share ideologies. Remembering Viney ( T) as a player you have to think hed be attracted to similar types as potential players. Todd was less about "elite' and more about no nonsense. Jobs were there to be done.
  10. In an odd way I feel happier about what ever we will do with in the draft now as the club has distinctly changed tracks on how it views it. Where as once this was the font of all our solutions it's now just a part of the 'stocking' process, as it ought to be. The getting of Ben shows we are taking long and deliberate steps in re-jigging our list. The way of the Roos is to find those players hidden away and bring them into a new fold and develop them. We were never going to see much in the first year as yo can only do so much in 5 mins so to speak. This year the FD has obviously spent a considerable more time and efforts in researching the under-utilised players out there. I must confess I wasnt overwhelmed by Bens highlights but they are only snippets at best. Im hoping hes taught to kick harder and lower when passing as AFL is NOT a game about 'hang" time but possibly I'm quibbling. Ive always worried over our pre occupations with the draft....or AF-Lotto as it is. it struck me we we going about it wrong. It smacked of desperation. Now I see a far calmer and cooler approach and I suspect one that will garner far better results. The aspect of Ben game I did like was he seems to play it purposefully. He seems to have footy nous , something we've lacked a lot of over recent years. You'd expect Newton with another solid preseason to step right into 22 contention.
  11. did you choose the time deliberately ? lol
  12. ....... ...coming d--d last !!!
  13. no...was thinking more along the lines of coming.........
  14. I was actually waiting for the obvious line
  15. how many live picks do we have ?
  16. in some ways I agree...its all too 'prissy" but he needs to pick his audience...he got it slightly wrong. There'll be lots of jokes about lots of things that are humouress in context and situation....that dont translate well to the larger 'social media " format. It seems like a lot of these Twits...dont realise the implications of not understanding whats required.
  17. There's funny...there's clever...and theres stupidity Ill give yo u5 mins to figure out which of the above applies to Bernie in this respect. The club has shown its not impressed by 'poor taste' efforts. Did Bernie not take any notice of the "Rolf" episode Theres joking between mates...all fun and games ...yeah...and then theres putting it out to the ...well ...world !!! smart move Bernie
  18. Bernie Bernie Bernie..... you idlot !!!
  19. I want whatever he's having !!!
  20. Mate my ol Da had Gee gees.. . lovely pets !!!
  21. That sounds all right !! Enjoy...and good luck. Go you good horse !
  22. I still think so too ... I'd be thinking along the lines as noted that JT ought to be for the other LTI Holiday aka Camp -Rookie !!I honestly don't see how anyone loses by that happening. He's not playing in 15 (at the very least) and by his own admission.
  23. Surely you know the truth is out there Jack !!
  24. last i heard.....they had one !!!
  25. In a way youre right but possibly not how you intended it....and probably for 5+6 years !!
