I'll put this here a its just as appropriate to the originating drafting. It occurs to me in watcing the various threads around as to who to keep and who not to and why, or why not to etc : that one off the biggest reasons we are such a crap team is that we gve too many players fa too long to "show us what they've got " Whether they be recalcitrant or peripheral in nature the whole notion of giving players 7-8 years to come on is plainly absurd. It also occrus to me that the very idea that some are still around with "potential" is because we did stufff up so much drafting and that development seems distant after thought. Hopefully this all stops with the current FD. Hopefully they can identify actual football players and not lazy or developmentallly challenged pretenders

A little bit of reason amongst this vomit inducing lovefest for Dunn.Keeping Dunn would only be as a result of some sort of stay of executon , not any real desire to retain. Itll just depend what number is on his pink slip as to whether he stays or goes.

In all seriousness my optimism starts the minute this season finishes. Then changes can start in earnest. Thats where my optimism lays, in that some real tinkering with this team will begin. Yes theres been some encouraging signs. Trenners is starting to play like he used to. Am I the only one that sees that as a bit odd. Its been quite interesting seeing half a team take on various others and not get totally wiped. Surely this means they are starting to get something understood out there. This in turns encourages me for when we get an "A" side actually playing then maybe, just maybe we might be able to compete. Im optimistic theres a major cleanout looming, that some real trading will be embarked upon, that we'll actually recruit some kids who can truly ruly play this bloody game. Im optimistic that the FD actually have a plan invoked that will start working and showing it next season. im optimistic, I have to be optimisitc as optimism is our only hook to hang a hat on invariably. Im optimisitc, Im a Melbourne supporter , thats what we are, optimistic, year after bloody year.

That is what i actually said ...i.e we may end up keeping him depending upon the line's length. Lucky us.
-
Sorry Jack...it was over beofre it started mate !! Just a reality. because we have , played really well, all year theyre 2nd and we're 16th...lets not kid ourselves and we'll probably play them back into form...as usual. Its good for you to try to drum things up a bit but most of us are over this year.
-
God how desperate are we for a glimmer of anything that we're ( some ) considering Dunn a fair dinkum keeper. Do we really have the bar that low ? If were to be truly competitve we need to measure ourselves by the top half dozen teams. Which of any would a player like Dunn get a game in ? I'll be gob smacked if this is the ilk we awant to hang on to.. we may well end up doing so as you can only get rid of so many each year, but it must be only because we have to not because we want to.

The mind boggles really as the best thing that can be said of him really is he's bad, just not as bad as some. Golly, praise indeed....a real keeper.

Im finding it hard to disagree with much of this

I think the inprovement is in the intangibles. The FD has had some time to bed down and get some of its programs happening. Results may take until into the new year. The greatest improvement from where I sit is the notion that the FD will now have a very clear indication of who stays and who goes Knowledge has improved. Next stop, the playing list.

I really cant see a whole lot of value in keeping Dunny but having said that theres probably a handful that might jump the queue and be moved on prior to getting to Lynden. His staying for mine, is more dependent upon what happens around him than because of him.

Rivers is an UFA. He can just walk. Would be nice if folk got their heads around FA and stop putting them up for "trade "

Why are the Roos doing so well at the moment?

Today didnt actually change my impressions. amazing huh

Impossible to comment upon until we see the results of delistings, trades, drafts.

Newsflash. Defences are there to defend. Its that simple really. That they have theif work cut out for them due to inadequacies everywhere else doesnt change their manifesto....which is to defend. Strangely enough a realist will look at the scoreboard as that determines out omes; you know that funny thing called winning or losing, the whole reason the game is played !!

Lets not kid ourselves.. We have an OK defence all thigs considered but there are still only 3 teams with over 2000 points kicked against. Frawley's had an Ok/average year., when on the deck, but its below par for him. His own fault..lol.. he set the bar high a little whiles back. We need him to regain teh AA form Tommy Mac is coming on OK, but hes not there. We might not get Barty back, big loss. Rivers is having an ok year but he still only afford the 3rd man in defence and we. Sellars is settling in but needs to step up a bit if we are to be seriously miserly in defence. Joel's handy but not irreplacable. I do agree however our backline isnt the main concern....just about everywhere else is in one form or another. Theres no eveness across the field. Theres a lot of clutching at straws , together with , if's but's annd maybe's when many are discussing our list. Thats simply oughtnt be the case. We should have clear cut winners in many positions, We lack many.

for mine two words summarise our recruiting/drafting and subsequent development: MASSIVE UNDERACHIEVEMENT No other club in recent times ( prior tothe noobs) had such chances and picks at their disposal. We fluffed it .....big time. Imho we set out and got exactly who we thought we needed and in the main got it very wrong. Its been incompetency by design. We targeted the wrong players, the wrong types that is. Our vision of what would make a competitive team was fundamentally flawed. Yes , i agree even withhte best of intentions you wont get it right 100%, but we ve got it wrong nearly 100%, ok an exageration but our strike rate is way below 25% and thats attrocius when you consider even blind luck ought to get you 50%..random hit or miss What this tells me is those that were at the helm and charged with formulating a construct by which to create a competitve team simply had it wrong . ( ill be kind here and say wrong, some might suggest nfi !!) I seriously think even with the best of crystal balls you may only get 50-66% of selections through to becoming a defined success. Theyre will always be those that just dont fire, or were at their peak with no further room to grow. It will happen. But to be where we are now at back end of 2012 with a cupboard somewhat bereft of real AFL grade talent having had multiple opportunities to acquire and amass some is beyond lamentable its scandalous. Inept. For mine I am thankful the new regime dont rate the old one's as much chop. Im glad theyve identified the gaping holes and are making moves to fill them. I dont care if that upsets some folks idea of a cozy applecart. To any one who still seriously thinks our recruiting /drafting/develoment hasnbt been all that bad ( given whatever >>>> insert whatever excuse you wish ) then please explain the sh!t we now find ourselves in.....again.!! Proof of the pudding is in the eating they say.. The evidence is before us, we're crap. It didnt just happen , we got theie by design. That means its someone(s) fault. What Ilike to think is that if we got to be rubbish by design then we can become good by design too. Just a better design, together with some hard work and hard calls. Go Dees

We made our choice years ago when we first signed on with this mob. The die was cast.

You need a lot of humour supporting this team of ours
