they would be notion, turf and different... all courtesy of a sticky kyebaord !!

idhappily leave that to someone whos probably got more time and experience to sort out.Plus thyd be being paid to do it.Theres been a number of ideas already put forward on the thread. Thered likely be consideration for time with ball without turning over. Possibly more definitin and qualifyingo f some existing stats disposals are uselss unless you quantify them and assess their outcome. Some of what you sugest would very likely work if specific values and ajudication were attributed. A lot of people seem to think the game's a lot more complicated than it really is

Opel - our new Back of Jumper sponsor

Youd have to think its for at least similar coin ( whatever that is as I cant recall what they've donated this year )see pm re beer -
I dont concur that the notiopnm of moneyball cant or shouldnt be applied to footy. The essence of MB is that one historically valued set of indicators was given the rturf in favour of a new set based upon very fiferent slant on things. Players were then sought on the basis of fulfilling the new parameters. Similar can be done with footy.

Thats great news. Was wondering how we might be traveling with this. Speaking of traveling hopefully webjet does likewise and futher their involvement . Gee... How nice to go into a season again with sponsors known !! Lol -
Theres a certain ring to all that. I have no personal knowledge as to whether thats 100% the case but it gels.I get the impresion much of the angst towards Schwabby was his tendency to want to impose his views on areas of the club he possibly wasnt ordained to. i.e the FD. Though blind Freddy and much of the sporting world could see we needed to change tac there was determined resistance to do so. God help us now had we not. A classic case of being right in the end but not right to be instrumental. Im not sure just how much Cam gets right or wrong but the club IS a much better place since his coming on board. He does genuinely care for this club. I think the problem for some is he cares too much ...lol...Some toes are sore

As see it the error, the real one was not the sacking /re-instatement as such but the rush to let all and sundry know about all our dirty bath water. Theres some leaky typs at te club, and I suspect somea re still there. They need the boot !!. Youre either with us or agin. If agin, then there are processes within the club to deal with such. If you have a devious agenda then quite frankly #uck off !!

What can be deduced....or at least opined from all this with some reasonable accuracy. Bailey: nice guy, inadequate coach at AFL level. Now at his more comfortable level of AFL involvement. Did a job in first two years, we paid dearly for it in the next Schwab: Very capable but needs his direction defined. Seems at least capable/desirous of learning ( thats good, dont dismiss out of hand ) . Lets call a spade a spade. The club is in its best fiscal health in my living memory and probably has the best desks in all the comp !!

As will the club have a better idea also. Keep inmind hes really only starting to hit hi straps( one hopes )

theres some pretty funnystuff on these boards at times.... But us winning the last two games is a gold medal effort !!

The actual premise of Moneyball was Bean didnt go down the old track of observing or paying much credence to the conventional givens of player stats. That is the ones most were accustomed to using such as bases stolen, runs hit,and batting averages etc. They were seen as flawed. Bean used things like slugging average which looks at the number of bases gained per at-at. He also looked at on base averages which in laymans terms is how often a player got to a base by their merit and not a stuff up of the opposing team ( its probably a bit more to it but thats kinda close ) . So as i see it if converted to AFL then we dispose of those pesky meaningless stats that arent qualified such as handball and kicks. You instead would be looking to the results of those possesions and if they were used to advantage. You migh thave a pos-kick average say. Where you divide the number of plus-team advantage outcomes by the number of kicks used. This way its not just about collecting possessons for players. And I imagine you could go on and on into other areas. You then look around at players ( who may or maynot become avail ) to see who has merit when gauged by these 'new' attributes. You also assign a value ( monetary ) to these variables and look for players that can provide adequate return on investment. They may not be superstars but they may have good consistency in playing certain roles. You then see if you can match remunerations to their expected efforts. You gradually build up a team by combining the expected returns on the field from your assembled group. edit...only just saw the efforts of Dee'ceiving and RPFC ... ..could use that sort of thing as well.

Moneyball is all about lateral thinking. Its about looking at things in a different light. Our past globes have been far from illuminating !!
